Final Fantasy has always been about groups of people teaming up to save the world from an evil force - it has never been about players killing each other in them. This is why PvP in this game is basic and separate from the main game, as it is not the game's focus. If you are wanting to fight other players and kill them in the game, then you are playing the wrong game I'm afraid, as FFXIV will never allow that.

Why would you say never.. seems very short sighted. YP talked about PVP in a interview once saying if there was enough demand for this they could consider it, its up to the players really and frankly you dont seem very supportive or sympathetic but meh its the forums.
Even as a PVP regular, I'd loathe the idea. I have too many friends who don't PVP I'd have to leave behind in order to transfer, and I don't think I could stomach leveling another alt through the MSQ--especially a DPS.
Saying what is or isn't Final Fantasy is very short-sighted. FFXIV already broke from the gameplay mold by becoming an MMO instead of a single-player, turn-based RPG and changing its storytelling style with different cutscenes and much more "mundane" content to allow it to function as an MMO. Just because you don't enjoy a game mode doesn't mean that nobody should be able to enjoy it.
Disagree. I prefer current PvP like Seal Rock than making server that the purpose is to make salty world.

Or an optional open world PK field that everyone can go to without queues. I know people wouldn't like it but they can put gathering nodes there too. If DoL classes want to gather there then they'd have to recruit people to guard them or something (or they can just use stealth, but put a buff timer to it so it won't get abused). I'm assuming it'll just be a waste of development time tho coz most FFXIV players won't even go there coz of the PK.
I dont think a PK server would work, to many features like gathering, leveling alts, Leves and FATES would be ruined, since it takes a max level player to ruin your day. You could say the people that join these servers know what they are getting themself into, but the real question would be: Will there be enough players to sustain the PK server?
As many I do think PvP has a place in this game and I love big siege warfare PvP games. So instead of asking for PK, why dont we keep asking them to fix their current PvP issues:
- Remove the GC restriction (Lore can go in the trashbin)
- Stop making older PvP modes irrelevant
- Add maps like Wiintergrasp from World of Warcraft or the maps from Guild Wars 2.
- Add different modes like Last Man Standing or Capture the flag
- Add one zone that works like PvP maps from GW2. A map with castles where players can group up and keep it or defend it, no resets (unless maintaince).
- Frontlines should be accessible at level 10 and players that are low level will be boosted to level 60.
PvP can be fun (saying this as a player that used to dislike PvP, but realy love it now), but the game has two MAJOR issues: The Queue takes ages and most PvP maps have one objective, touch a stone thingy and defend it/ or take it from another group.
PS: To the people that say Lore would not allow it, Lore can be changed and lets be honest when its about gameplay or lore in a mmorpg, I am willing to give gameplay a bigger say.
I was once predicted that the game would have players fighting each other bearing grand company flag to my fellow FC players, this was before frontline was a thing.. Their response was that it would be impossible to implement that as it stands against the story with grand company strugling together.. Now look what have they done to implement killing each other in frontline..

PK has no place in this game. I personally think it has no place in any game, it's purely a mechanic that allows people to get their jollies by picking on lowbies. I genuinely don't understand how anyone can enjoy what amounts to trying to destroy someone else's playtime on purpose =/
By all means, ask for a PK server. Just don't complain when the only 10 people that use it are griefers, because that's what will inevitably happen.
Have fun getting absolutely nowhere as a healer because all you can realistically do is heavy/sleep and try to avoid any contact with anyone else.
Inversely, have fun going to hunts and fates without any chance of any healers coming around to help you.
If people really want a PK server or area then by all means rally for it; I personally wouldn't want to see development time put towards this idea though. I would loathe having to do anything in the open world if I had people just trying to kill me (lol at any class being able to kill most healers without PvP nerfs and buffs in place) because it would just become the biggest nuisance ever. If you want to just sit and kill people, then queue up for Frontlines (Slaughter) or The Feast. If they ever made an open PK area with quests and such that functioned as any other area would, I would avoid it at all costs.

played games that had only pk servers.. they died quite fast due to people rushing to max level in 3 days then camping level 20 zones farming any low level player trying to quest and level up.. then they whinged and ranted in forums how games dead no1 plays it anymore :P so its a big NO from me 10000000000 x over

I think adding a PVP map that contains only daily/weekly quests that reward wolf marks and pvp potions would be interesting, this way the people that enjoy the PVE don't miss anything.
No. That's the ultimate way of abuse, and I sw that on other games. Ruins everything and is not fun (not fun for the victim, because the attacker is happy ruining all). High level trolling people by kiling them? No thanks. This games is not for that.
Example:
"Are you waiting for a node to spawn and gather it? Oh, would be a pity if I kill you when pop..."
Player kill will cause only problems. What about the poeple like me who don't want be attacked by other while is playing alone on my things? Or the low level newies being abused by others? Player kill is a stupid way of fuck everyone fun. YOu only need few trolls to turn all into a shit.
PvP is boring, in every game.
I wouldn't be opposed to it if it was going to be popular among a decent number of players. I do see it as difficult to implement within the framework of the narrative. All PvP in FF14 is effectively Wargames between the GCs and not to the death. Infact the whole point of the Frontlines is effectively creating a form of tournament to decide issues to avoid military tension and conflict between the City States.
I've also very rarely seen open world PvP work outside games revolving around PvP. The core issue is it tends to supress PvE activities like gathering because of the interference involved and usually ends up just being high level people going around ganking lower level ones. It gets worse if the factions aren't balanced in player numbers, potentially making areas of the game impossible to play for players of a weaker faction.
I'm sorry, you are hard to understand, but if I read it right then you want the open world pvp because there is no reason to go outside the cities? Because it would make people go out there for the chance to fight each other? But that is not going to happen. This is a game that has very little pvp and so it attracts a lot of people who don't care about pvp or even just hate it and would not be interested. If you had open world pvp zones, these people would never go there. People would stay in cities and other safe zones even more than they already do. They would certainly not transfer to a PK server.
With our PvP (or quite simply our class/job arsenals of abilities) I honestly have zero interest. At best I'd avoid it as much as possible.
What's more, even if SE were to open a PvP server, I don't think there's quite enough PvP interest in this game in general to populate it, especially if it require transfers rather than (e.g. seasonal) character duplication.
While i really like PVP in general, id say no cause PVP is awful in every MMOrpg. Slow clunky and boring.
Even if I'd like to have a pvp map in general, I doubt that this game fits for it since the pvp is probably far too slow and really not that "dynamic", with also having far too few players overall (I already have to wait 10 to 20 minutes for a feast match!).
Besides we'd get the usual "it can be abused" topic so I'd just scrap it all together.
PS: but how about a duel option at least?
DAoC which was lauded for years as the best large scale PvP MMO, tried a PK server... guess what, it was the first server to be officially shut down. There was a rush of people to it when it launched, then after a few hundred people got to max lvl, they'd spend their time camping new player areas, and PK'ing new people to server till they left, making it nigh impossible to join the server community (they didn't want "scrubs" tainting their server).
The established community started to drastically fall in population as the vets started to eventually leave, which dwindled the amount of PK'ing, which caused more people to leave, and the PK'ing dropped even more, so on and so forth. Till eventually population dropped so low that even with the added 300% xp bonus to lvl'ing as incentive to try the server, new people wouldn't join because the server was always dead.
This was in a PvP centric MMO, now imagine how bad it'd be in a PvE focused one like XIV.

If SE wouldn't even follow through with adding an official RP server in an MMORPG (you know, literally just putting RP after a server name, that's it.) like they said they would back in alpha, then I wouldn't hold my breath for a server where you can freely kill anyone.
And besides unless you're using the open PvP to kill RMT bots, I don't see why it would be fun for this game to just go randomly kill others who are just trying to play an RPG, not Dark Souls 3.
No. You already have PVP in the game. This is not world of crapcraft, this is not diablo, or any MOBA. Stop.
To just put this simply, Player Killing is not what Final Fantasy is about
I would not mind a PvP server.
1. Its optional
2. This game is built on community, which means pvp players can build their own communities easier instead of being mixed with others with the way PvP is now. (random queues)
3. End game experience. There's really no better way to spend time than to test your limits with random players. If running Pve content where you memorize every. enemy. pattern. and fight them over and over till a month later for a next patch is your forte? then go on ahead. PvP players will not bother you and still be having fun.
4. When balance is an issue, this is where community comes in. You team up with people you find. You know how dangerous it is because you know what you were getting into when it said PLAYER KILL SERVER.
Just because you had bad experiences in PvP doesn't mean its bad for a game where its ok to grind for some item to achieve armor to save that world because the seller is a cheap profiteer trying to make your life even harder. For those who say PvP wouldn't fit in this game and mxing lore about "players always just fighting forces of evil" then no. What you can't seem to fathom is that lore can be adjusted and added on to. What do we have now? [hb]Warriors of Darkness [hb] What else do we have? Pirates, adventurers, thieves, maruaders. While your player can be something in one world, in another they can be completely different. Did I also mention this is optional. Quit ruining someone elses wishes just because it doesn't fit your dream Final Fantasy game. It has "fantasy" in its name for a reason.

Shes right though, this game is pretty boring and there isn't really anything interesting or fun to do besides Role-play. Open World PvP also won't be implemented. Not because its a bad idea, I think it could be a good idea in 'most older games'.
However, FFXIV has some of the worst PvP Balance I have seen in a long time. So no, that is why it shouldn't be done.
Also.. there would NOT be any PvP, 99% of the game is INSTANCED.
Flying Mounts alone would kill high level PvP..
There isn't really a point to a PvP server, because everyone would just avoid PvP anyways.. lol
