Well that's a 15% chance that the refresh will trigger it's not guaranteed blegh RNG.
15% chance it will refresh. Which means there is an 85% chance that it will not refresh however most people cast Bane after they place the intial DoTs so I doubt 5 seconds is going to kill your DPS because the 85% chance means most of the time the refresh will not trigger.
I've seen it happen when I baned something that was low duration without paying attention.
Not really something worth paying attention to though.
It has probably happened to me plenty of times. I just don't notice because it isnt really something worth looking for/paying attention to. As SMN and SCH you will generally be using bane right after the initial application of DoTs so it doesnt make much of a difference if it procs anyways
After I tried on dummy, it did refresh on the target who got bane (not the enemy who you target to bane) and refreshed only 1 time, can't refresh it if you put another bane. The RNG is strong too.
Why would anyone cast bane twice in a row ._. waste of stacks.
By the way: That's not a new effect. It was there when I started playing, two years ago.
Refresh effect is not new, but has been a trait of the skill since launch. It also only works on a mob by mob basis, so some may get it whilst others wont. Besides, as others said, you don't rely on that trait for Bane anyway.
15% isn't near high enough to warrant relying on. It's just a bonus. The way I look at it, 99% = 0%
I only noticed it when I was actively seeking the refresh proc when attacking dummies. As others have said, the 15% proc rate is too low too care about it. It's a nice cherry on top of the sundae that is Bane.
However, after you have casted your DoTs so many times that you can do them in your sleep, you begin to instinctively know when to refresh them manually and if it seems like your DoTs are lasting longer than you're used to, it is likely the refresh proc'd.
It's worth noting that the refresh effect will not trigger if their durations are already longer than their base as a result of using Contagion. Back at launch this wasn't the case and this 15% chance actually hurt SMN dps as it reset extended dots back to their base durations. It's really a pretty pointless secondary effect though as it contributes next to nothing.
