Names partially censored per forum rules. But here on Balmung we are combating bots in full swing and cannot keep up with over 3 pages of them!
Is there some way to counter this activity on SE's end?

Considering I haven't quite achieved mentor status yet, I have to ask...How would this have even happened? Is there someone specifically inviting all these to the Novice Network?
I have never seen them in phoenix mentor chat.
You know you can kick them from the chat right :/
Too many in Lamia, see people constantly kicking them out but it feels pointless :(
Yes. Either because they're just adding everyone with a leaf (trying to be helpful?), or because they see all the RMT style names and think it'll be amusing to add them (maybe it's in an attempt to make SE be more proactive towards RMT if they make the Novice Network less effective?)
Also just in case people don't realise, whoever is inviting them doesn't even have to be in the Novice Network themselves, the system quite happily lets you invite even if you're not in the chat channel. And even if we knew who was doing it, it wouldn't make any difference except to cause harassment issues as whoever is doing it isn't technically doing anything wrong either (morally yes if they're intentionally adding them, but gamewise no).
There's no rule that says "Don't invite RMT to the Novice Network". It could probably come under the general causing issues for other players thing, but if SE themselves can't seem to work out who is RMT and remove them, they can't expect the players to correctly identify them either...
:(
As for the kicking, unless it was changed in the patch green leafs are only kicked for 30minutes before being put back in. I would put it on the side of a troll wanting to be funny, but then again on Coeurl I've basically closed out cus I got annoyed at not seeing it be used the way it was intended. If i wanted spam I'd have my tells on.
You know that they can be totally ignored, right? They never say anything in the chat, they never add up far enough to max out they chat. They might be a blight, but people make way too big a deal of this. Hell, the complainers are more annoying at this point.
No one likes RMT, but keep things in perspective.
There is another way they could be invited. If the RMT people have a mentor in there, when an RMT is booted, it re-adds them.
I'm not in the mentor channels, but an FC mate of mine is. He said 12 bots were kicked just last night, on Coeurl. >_>
100% this.
Most people wouldn't even take notice of bots, if not for the people who go on bot-kicking sprees, spamming the channel with
<so and so was kicked by Mentor
Reason: bot>
Now just imagine that spammed 20+ times in your chat. It got to such a point on Balmung, that actual novices were asking to be removed from the chat because they were tired of the spam.
And then someone booted the mentor that was doing it and it became quiet and everyone was happy.
*edit starts here*
and I also want to add, that kicking bots is a practice in futility.
They will be added after 30 minutes, automatically. Once a player has been added to the Novice Network as a new adventurer, the only way out is to remove your NA status.
The fact that people don't realise this (Actually had some people try to tell me that's 'not how it works') is the most baffling part.
I'm Glad SE made a tool that makes it soooo EASY for Real players so see how little they are doing about the issue.
Oh what is this? I always saw people from Balmung denying the existance of RMT spam.
I used to be on Phoenix before transferring to a bit lower populated server. Phoenix has an extremely low amount of RMT activity in general because of the high population it's harder to get the accounts on, my first few weeks of being on Sargatanas was a huge culture shock and felt like I couldn't even use the /tell tab because any time i stopped looking at the game for a few minutes I'd have 2 - 5 new RMT tells.
Hello,
as on Cerberus dramas were happening in the Network about "should we kick bots or not ? it's useless they come back after 30 min anyway..." i filled a GM request and here is the answer i got (in french) : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...092-rmtrdn.png
Translation :
So, according to those informations, they clearly advice us, mentors, to kick them after making sure they are definitely RMT/bots (there are some easy way to find out if they are or not, like if they are all BLM/BRD in the same dungeon at the same time with names that sounds like a sneezing cow or using the automatic name generator built-in the game, if they are glitching under the floor, etc...) and fill a report if possible.Quote:
Hello Mimoza,
Thank you for contacting FINAL FANTASY XIV service center.
Although we do not have a clear course for RMT characters in the network of novices, we advise you to banish them from the network to keep that content as clean as possible.
Also do not hesitate to report these RMTs so we can banish them quickly and therefore release definitly their places of novice network.
Thank you for your GM call and wish you a pleasant day.
Regards,
I just wanted to share those informations with you all since it seems to be part of the mentor role to keep the network clean even if the bots are not spamming inside.
I think we could try putting every names in the same report since it's for the same "illegal event". I'll try this method next time i notice some on the network.
I'd be furious if in doing that, I end up mistyping "Adsesadftv Lllleidndim" for "Adsesadttv Llleidndim" or perhaps cutting off a letter from the sloppy copy/paste method. Having to go back and forth with each of the 63 names because the current chat system is so archaic that it doesn't support a non-convoluted method to provide feedback or reports. Much props to you if you have the patience though lol. I certainly don't.
Wait what? I am not there to partake in the kicking fun? :(
Last time I was in we started to get a loopy in the brain and started to make the kick messages entertaining. Song versus, etc.
But as always, you can hide the kick spam (if you want to be in the channel and not see the spam.
I don't like seeing a cluttered list and not seeing a CLEAN list of actually real younglings. Whatever you want to call it, OCD, ADD, anal mentality, I like seeing a clean list in there for everyone involved.
There is a HUGE difference between bots and RMT spam. What Balmung has been saying forever is that we really do not get a lot of the RMT Spam (says, shouts, yells, tells, friend invites, etc.). We have NEVER (or we better not have ever said) that we do not have a BOT problem.
