Live letter question about medling

Anyone watch or read through the live letter questions. The one on melding I found funny.

I especially found this part funny "But whenever they fail advanced melding they feel bad." That was a masterfully crafted question to try to get the dev team to feel sorry for them and I guess try to guilt them into changing the system. I'm in a crafting ls that is almost at the max limit of people it can have and never heard anyone talk about how they feel bad when melds fail for other people.

Why would someone feel bad? Melding is rng with the crafter having no actual effect on the outcome lol. What a dumb guilt trip.

I actually feel bad whenever I fail melds for people, even if it's RNG. One can feel bad (that is, empathize with the fact that blowing up materia sucks) and not feel responsible for it.

Exactly, you can't help but feel bad for the person & that will always create a feeling of responsibility. It's just human nature, or at least it is for people who have a normal level of empathy.

It is far beyond natural human empathy to be so affected by failing something, through no fault of your own, to need something put in place so that you can avoid it ever happening again. Does it suck when melds fail? Absolutely.. whether it is your own or someone elses. Is it so traumatic that I would advocate for an NPC to do it instead of me? No.. that is pure silliness.

I still don't see how that makes the person doing the melds feel bad, someone comes to you and request a meld and it 10% success rate meaning it 90% chance it going to fail, I put up PF ads once in while doing melds and i treat them just like if I was a NPC they click request meld and I press the ok/meld button. I most likely won't even remember you later if you come back and say "can you do more melds for me" the answer would be be "ok" or "sure"

How many people feel guilty when assaulted, mugged, burgled or have a discussion with someone who has? A lot, it's a natural empathising process. You may want think on that; if you don't feel that way they maybe you don't empathise the same as others, which is perfectly fine as we all vary on a spectrum.

You see your best in game friend spend all the gil you know that they've been grinding for weeks to get on materia. They come to you to meld it, they want pentameld. You go through every, single, materia. Alas, you only finish at triple meld & your friend is gutted but "doesn't blame you". If you feel nothing you meet the psychological definition of Narcissist. That's not being offensive to you, it's stating a scientific medical fact.

I don't think that's narcissism. I believe that's referred to as sociopathy. And I think they're saying the meld itself failing doesn't make them feel bad. Sure, maybe the fact that they went through several weeks worth of work and only got a triple meld might make them feel bad for their friend, but the meld itself probably has no bearing on it.

What made me feel bad about a failed meld before 3.2 was the insanely long animation for a fail. There was enough time to play the sad trombone music from The Price is Right with a couple seconds to spare.

Well my "friends" in game usually ask me about stuff like the prior to doing it. Like about melding such as penta melding and I can tell them hey be prepared to throw a lot of gil away doing that. They then know and then their choice if they want to continue with buying the materia and having the melds done.

Is it up to Lexia to be the adult to their friends? It's the same as melding your own gear... You know it's a low chance that it will succeed.

You can throw as much gil as you want at it. How are we supposed to know how much gil they have (or have little of)? A lot of my friends are well off, so if they dump a few million gil to get a pentameld it's no biggy.

Narcissism is the lack of empathy for others. Sociopathy is recurrent anti-social behaviour with a reduced sense of empathy & lack of remorse. Your post is exactly what I'm saying, you *would* feel bad for the person, to say you'd never feel bad is completely unnatural.

Yeah, it's certainly not at all unusual to feel bad for failing to help your friend, even if you had absolutely no control over the probabilities involved. There was something similar, but arguably a whole lot worse in FFXI: No matter how accomplished you were as a crafter, crafting had a minimum failure rate, something like 5% chance of failure. No matter what you were crafting, no matter how high level or how well-geared you were, you had a one-in-twenty chance of the synth breaking, resulting in the loss of a random number of ingredients.

On one occasion, I attempted to craft a relic component for a friend; it was a recipe I was well qualified to craft. This component had all kinds of expensive gems and ingots involved - not only expensive, but rarely available on the auction house. Naturally, not only did that one-in-twenty chance of failure crop up, but the worst case scenario (loss of every ingredient) occurred as well. He didn't blame me, but I certainly did feel awful about it!

Materia melding, imo, isn't as gut-wrenching, given that the odds of success are so low that you pretty much expect to fail. Can still suck to see a friend blow all their gil on materia and have little or nothing to show for it, though!
