[Spoiler] A Garlean Pureblood using Aether?

In the recent patch, there is a scene where you battle alongside Lucia for Ishgard. In this scene, she can cast cure on herself repeatedly. In the past with Cid, he used a potion (Aqua Vitae I believe it was called) to heal since purebloods cannot use magic. But Lucia was casting cure all about as if there were no issues with anything ever. It looked natural too, the normal gla/pld casting pose.

Was this a slip-up or is this to imply that she can actually cast magic now through some means? Is there hope for purebloods using aether?

Perhaps she's a mutant, Pure-blooded, but also magically inclined? Hopefully there's a dev response to this one, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for her to cast it.

Honestly, it was probably a slip-up, SE does make mistakes at times.

I suspect that it's just an oversight.

I would say it's possible Lucia isn't pure blood if it wasn't for the third eye she hides behind her circlet.

It could be that what ever prevents them from manipulating Aether is more an adaptation to an Aether poor environment. Or that people that live in Eorzea for prolonged periods can actually adapt to it and learn to manipulate ambient Aether from their environment like Conjerors do.

Im betting the later as "Aether Sickness" was actually a common, yet temporary, affliction some foreigners suffered when visiting Eorzea the first time and is originally blamed for our fainting spells prior to the echo's reveal. Especially in 1.0. From its description, dissyness, lightheadedness, fainting, possibly nausia and headaches (infured not stated) Aether Sickness is simmilar to Altitude Sickness and can be adapted too.

So Lucia's long presence combined with possible training may have given her some limited use of basic magic.

I would expect for Cid to be able to use aether then, since he has also been in Eorzea for some time, but he continues to behave as if aether usage were impossible. It could have been that Lucia did have training, but I would think Cid would have picked up a bit traveling alongside warriors of light for so long.

We don't have any evidence of Garleans "acclimatizing" to the use of aether; if it's possible, then why wouldn't the prolonged use of Ceruleum influence them? It's not like Garlemald is completely devoid of aether.

That's very hypothetical and I'm not sure I agree with it on the basis that such a possibility would very likely have become public knowledge in the past if it was possible.

My best guess is that it's a mistake and the lore team did not communicate with the battle/quest design team. It happens. I really, really wouldn't look more into it than that unless you're hoping for disappointment.

Tbh. I believe it IS just a combat system over sight as the move set for a Temple Knight was likly copyed to Lucia, cure spell included, rather than design her a compleatly unique set of attacks for that one instance.

But IF we were to pull a darksteel theory out our proverbial arse, then I have submitted my theory. And my explanation on Cid is that the training is the difference between knowing the spell and not and that Lucia only has very limited use of the spell while Cid, Knowing he can't use it efficiently, likly just doesn't bother with the extra stress of trying to force his body to channel the Aether.

I also do.not believe that Garlens are compleatly incapable of using Aether, but are just so poor at it from a genetic level that they developed workarounds until they eliminated it's need almost entirely.

If they learn how to artificialy replicate the Echo then I don't believe anything could stop them from conquring the planet.

Lets say for a moment that it was not an error or that a lore team find a way to fix like ( coff..coff..like the catheral on azys la... coff coff )

I see 2 posibilities here:

- What Kaiser said ( It just could be that Cid did not have any kind of training, I dont think he is the a guy that would be interested on using magicks )
- That garleans have a very deep limited use of aether, so limited that is consider worthless. Did Lucia used Cure I ? thats pure basic school learning of aether

About the aether syckness. Is that the reason why the legatus and centurios use masks on the first place? Kind of a radiation suit? ( to add, centurios have masks, are taller than hyrus and use swords, thats why ppl suspect they are pure blood too ). If its true that could be a nice excusse of why Nero is upsent, somewhere suffering of aether syckness.
