Remove Class Lock from Glamour

This has been the most frustrating thing in the game for me. I see a piece of gear that looks really nice that I'd love to use only to find out that it's for another class and the closest look-alike that my current class can use is a different color and is undyeable, if one even exists.

The last official word on this the idea was rejected because the developers felt that it would be confusing for new players to see people running around in gear that doesn't match their class.

However, these days we have tanks that wear robes, DPS wearing heavy plate and healers in bikinis. It's safe to say that that ship has sailed and is no longer a suitable reason to continue to class lock glamour items.

There should still be class-specific gear, but it should be only a handful of sets unique to each class (i.e. lvl 45 and 50 job gear).

This game has done so many things right and hasn't been afraid to change with the times. Well, the times have changed once again and this also needs to change.

The devs response is still, and will always be valid. Final fantasy jobs have always come with identity and visual distinction, Xiv included. Any time where this isn't the case we have seen gear split into roles, allowing more accessibility.

Take DRG for example. Why should my SCH be able to glamour the DRG eso gear? That will confuse a lot of people, especially in things like pvp and 24man raiding.

The devs response is to reuse the assets to make separate gear that isn't class locked, which while I think is a round about method, its the best you will get with the way the game is designed.

Why should my PLD be able to wear robes? Why is my DRG able to wear underwear into battle? Why is my SCH friend running around in heavy plate?

It already doesn't make sense, and at least with removing the class lock on the gear it would make people happy to no longer have their creativity needlessly stifled.

But yes, eso gear should be one of those sets that remain class-specific.

This responce was okay 5 years ago, now with almost all modern MMOs offering way more customization for the player characters looks, FFXIV is falling behind and need to overlook stuff like this.


I agree that Artifact armor (lvl45-40af1) af2 (ilvl90af2) and af3 (Eso) should be the only exception to this, for the rest the devs need to ease up on this restriction.
The only thing that has "identity" nowadays is the Artifact armor and that could stay as is.

Also the excuse that it doesn't work in PVP or 24man raiding is laughable, like said earlier you can glamour Bikini tops, mini skirts or just nothing at all as ANY class, you still have to tell by looking at their weapon and what skills they use, if glamour restrictions where liften somewhat this wouldn't change anything.

Either way, its a nice option for people to have that want to use it, its not going to hurt anyone's fun (seriously if you have issues with tank wearing healer outfit, then how do you not have same issue with them in speedos llike what is currently avaliable for glamour?) so its about time SE overlook this outdated policy.
If you don't like it oyu can stick to whatever glamour fits your fancy but don't stand in way of others getting the chance to create their dream look wihtout any good excuse for it.

Just looking at some of the gear in my inventory that I've gotten today in runs, it illustrates exactly why the class lock is unnecessary 95% of the time.

I have two pairs of the same kind of pants, one for DRG and one for BLM. The DRG ones are blue, the BLM ones are red, they are otherwise identical. My DRG outfit is red, there's really no reason why I shouldn't be able to wear the red ones as glamour.

I also have a pair of healer-only sandals in my inventory that AFAIK have no lookalikes for other classes. Why? Everyone should be able to wear sandals...

Same with a pair of ARC/BRD/MCH-only gloves I'm looking at. They're just normal leather gloves. Why shouldn't other classes be allowed to use them?

These are just a few examples that I didn't even look for, but there are soooooo many similar situations with other gear and it's just silly.

Perhaps making gear glamourable across disciplines is ok, but having a tank in healing gear or a healer in full plate armour is jarring, and whether you like it or not it does ruin role identity (if you want that then there are plenty of glamours that suit all classes)

As a cop out answer it also stops everyone jumping on the coolest gear of the patch and having a party of 8 all in DRG gear

Perhaps they could at least relax the restrictions on obsolete gear? Job-specific sets can have a flag that they can't be glamoured cross-class, and the newest gear can have that too, but a lot of the old junk gear is never used by anyone any more (especially the harder-to-obtain stuff around level 50 where you get a massive amount of pieces available except it's quickly rendered pointless when you start picking up 3.0 pieces with better stats). Just let people have fun and glamour it.

It seems a good solution to add a flag to any piece of gear whose appearance doesn't have a solid logical reason for being class-specific that allows it to be used in cross-class glamour, even if they can't normally equip it.

Going by the way SE handles things, they will just make new gear and have you need to obtain it (because things to do right?). They did this with the allagan gear, all they needed to do was make the original allagan gear dyable, but no, we got the replica gear, because reasons. SE seems to do this a lot, so I wouldn't hold out hope, regardless of what side of the fence you are on :/

There're a pair of sets in-game that every melee class in-game can use except DRG. One of said sets do have a DRG variant, but it's the undyeable version... ;;;;; I really love this game and everything the Devs provide for us but my God are the arbitrary restrictions simply maddening. Let special relic sets be unique.... let tome gear be unique at least for a certain period of time... but give us more range of movement for everything else (_ _) ;;;;;;

Would love to see class restrictions removed, would finally be able to mix and match some actual nice outfits and maybe just maybe look a bit nicer ^^
