Possibility of Epilepsy Mode?

Hello! Even with all spell effects and stuff turned off, there are still some animations and effects that can trigger epileptic seizures.

I know some games (this one included) has looked into settings that can help with things such as color blindness. Would it be possible for there to ever down the road be a handicap setting that could help curb bright flashy effects for people with epilepsy?

I assume you're referring to photo-epilepsy. There's quite a lot of effects, like you say, that have the potential to aggravate symptoms, along with flickering from the anti-aliasing (less of an issue for most). It would be an interesting project & should be well within the possibilities of the software. Hopefully they will take this on board. :)

I know Thordan EX was specifically redesigned for that reason. It's already really flashy but if rumors are true, the origenal design even had an adverse effect on some of the development staff.

I know some things that get me specifically are a group of trash mobs in the Vault (where the room flashes purple). The new bird mounts. And when people shoot off the magiteck mounts in my immediate vicinity. There are other things, too, but those come to mind right off the top of my head because I see them so regularly at the moment.

As a fellow epileptic I know what your saying. I hope someday they will make it like that.

I don't have photosensitive epilepsy, thankfully, it's one of the few things I don't have! However, I have experienced unpleasant reactions to certain flashing events like those outlined above in the Vault & when there's people on the Magitek mounts or having an "AoE off" in cities (some of the 50+ actions are hellish, not to mention Holy). At least they can be turned off for those who need it.

I don't suffer from epilepsy but this suggestion deserves a bump and a Like. Dazzling effects should be included in the visuals you can choose to disable so everyone can enjoy the game fully. I actually didn't know about the Magitek mount; time to be more careful about using the missiles from now on.

I'm not epilleptic, but it always confused me why they removed the ability to turn off limit break effects because the BLM one is intense; can it cause issues? I hope they help you out, OP. I'll try to be mindful of magitek mounts; that's good to know.

Hello another epileptic player here just wanted to add that I may not have sensory overload/photosensitivity seizures but do suffer from REM and fetigue seizures. So I sympathize with other players that have a more sensitive condition, my hope is that they will help you all with visuals causing harm to your play sessions. Couldn't bump this thread enough. You refering to the "Black Hole" Ability? Even when I don't have Epilepsy, the blue swirling Effect is irritating as hell and I surely have to blink two times or three times just to process that effect.

I certainly don't want anyone getting that ill while trying to play!

I don't have epilepsy but I do have the depth perception of a shoe (partially blind), so anything that can be done to help accommodate others is +1 in my book!

I really support this notion.

I have photosensitive epilepsy, too, which makes some encounters more difficult. I see that some people above are having issues with Ozma but it is Arachne Eve's orb phase that kills me. The combination of the floor textures, colors, and orb animations just confuse my brain. I might as well be blind because I cannot navigate that phase at all and have to rely on autofollowing someone else.

The Vault's full screen flashes are terrible as well. I have a pair of sunglasses on my desk just for that dungeon.

So, please, SE - consider implementing an "epilepsy mode".

I saw it on YouTube & decided that I really don't need that in my life given how intense the raid is as a whole (got to Forgall's adds before videos were out). Whilst being very stressed it's easier to be affected by things like that.

It's pretty much the entire fight. The whole environment, all the bright flashing, the metalic reflective surfaces. I have some trouble with a couple other places in the game that I mentioned in the original post, but this is the only fight in the whole game that I can't participate in at ALL. I have to take my FC mates in with me and then they text me when I can turn my TV back on again. It's really bad.

Also... I have all of my effects turned off. But the only options are self, party, or other players. Why can't you turn off the flashy effects of foes? (or is there a way and maybe I just haven't found it yet?)
