Considering this one request is literally the only thing I ever see when I get into the mentor chat on my server, I consider the feature to be a resounding success so far, lol.
You need a mentor to kick you from the channel, otherwise you lose your green bud status. I don't understand why you'd want to keep the bud icon if you're not going to use the perks that come with it though.
If you aft for a while you will now be kicked from the channel.
Currently, there is no way to leave the Novice Network by yourself, unless you get kicked by a mentor, which is a poor design. They don't let mentees decline Novice Network invites and don't let them leave either. Please change this, SE.
Also, someone mentioned getting kicked by going afk. Unfortunately, afk kicking only applies to mentors and not mentees, since there are way too many mentors compared to mentees.
Anyway, if the mentors don't kick you out or if someone re-invites you back, you can hide the Novice Network through the following method.
At the bottom right of your chat tab, you will see a gear.

Click it and it brings you to character configuration > log window settings > general.
Under Log Filters, click on general, which should be numbered 1 by default.

This brings up the log filters > chat settings tab. Scroll down and you will find Novice Networks. Just uncheck that and click apply.

By doing this, even if you are in the Novice Network, you won't be able to see any chat.
Even if a mentor kicks it is only a 30 min ban then you are put back in the channel.
You have to either remove your leaf or just filter out the chat as described above.
Once you are in the channel there is no way for you to leave it.
I can't help but find it a bit sad that the novice wants to leave the novice network, that's definitely not working as intended. I'm wondering what situation brought this on; is the Ultros network that bad?
Honestly, you don't lose anything by using the /bstatusoff command. Getting forcibly placed into a glorified global chat without your consent is the only "benefit" to it. I'd recommend ditching it. Outside of that, there's literally no way to leave on your own.
Like Crysten said, funny how "How do I leave this thing" is the most common Novice Network question...
100% correct, i was on an alt. and to answer another question. yes, the ultros Novice chat is horrifying. shortly after i joined 2 players started to ERP in the chat. i dont know
if they were playing around as a joke or not, but the level of vulgarity in their messages was too much.
I think at this point the devs need to step up and make some of the things that go on in that chat a ToS violation.
On Malboro, sprouts love the Novice Network. They almost always get answers right away, and those of us who answers them are usually the same people.
You never realize how helpful people can be until you are in the Network.
Out Mentors self-manage the Network professionally. I mean, you get your mama jokes, but it don't go beyond a few lines of jokes before we're back on topic. Have we kicked people? Yes, especially the folks who spam *INSERT BODY ORGAN HERE* repeatedly. Other than that, we ask first if you stop.
But as I mentioned, it's usually the same people who respond, and we know each other. So it's all good.
That's interesting, as Hyperion's Novice Network is pretty good, imo. We keep it classy, novices get their answers, even in-person assistance when needed! Mentors are also learning things as well. And it's free of recruitment begging for peoples FC's or RAF, which was what I was afraid of most of all. As a legacy server, it's doing pretty well, I guess?
Gilgamesh has a pretty functional novice network. Things rarely get hostile or unpleasant there. We do have a dearth of novices, though, since the server is so hard to join, but when novices do ask questions they get enthusiastic answers from dozens of Mentors, all at once. XD
Players do ask how to leave, though (generally folks with novice alts), and it's a bit frustrating how little control players have over their presence in the channel. Invite a Novice? They can't say no. Novice (or Mentor) wants to leave? Too bad, not unless you remove your Novice (or Mentor) status.
Whenever I'm in the NN on Gilgamesh I usually see more Mentor/Mentor convo's than legit Novice/Mentor convo's (not counting the sprout alt/mentor ones), including idle chit chat, party recruitment, hunt calls etc. Novice's that ask questions obviously do get pretty prompt answers but the majority of Mentors I know literally groan when they get zone shoved into the global chat as they're porting around.
We also seem to have a lot of bots but they never say anything so then we just get a flood of "xyz kicked for being a bot" spam as some Mentors try to clear them out; seems pointless since they come right back in 30 mins.
I've seen Mentors who don't like the Mentor/Mentor chatter or bot boot spam that happens in our NN get told by other dominant mentors in the channel to turn their crowns off because their taking up space when they express their desire for not wanting in the channel; which really isn't fair. Additionally I've seen many Mentors say they just filter NN.
There are things about the NN chat that just feel very broken.
SE really does need to add a "You have been invited to the NN chat - Do you want to join: Y/N" style popup. As well as an option to easily leave the channel for both Mentors/Sprouts without having to turn off crowns/sprout icons or ask to be kicked.
EDit: Did some digging so I'm replaceing my suggestion with instructions
Click the gear Icon next to your chat panel selection, scroll down to the one you want (You'll probably want the default General one) and click on it. A box should pop up with all the active chat channels in that window marked with yellow boxes. Tick the Novice Network box so it's grey instead and TADA!
You haven't really left but you'll never see it.
