Is an official database too much to ask for?

Two and a half hours. That's how long I've spent trying to get new gear for my BTN and MNR -- both of which are 30.

The majority of that time has been spent combing through the Lodestone recipes list and sites like ZAM/Yellow Gremlin/FFXIV-DB.

Honestly, XI was my only other MMO, so I'm not too sure what the standard is, but this can't be right, can it? If SE is qoing to leave it up to fansites to list the where and how of basic equipment acquisition, shouldn't they at least give those sites the information?

I mean, it seems these sites have no idea about certain changes like what NPCs sell things. So I need to look up on a fansite what items are good for my character, then on the forum 1.19 patch notes to see if it's sold by an NPC if it's missing from the wARDS -- because god forbid if there was a complete listing of potential items there -- then over to the Lodestone recipes list to see if I can make it. But even then I'm not sure if I can make it because the recipes may be 21 or they may be 30, who knows?

Sad thing is, after all that time, I still can't find some equipment dated or new for some slots, so I have to go back to wearing items which are "optimal" for between 7 and 18 until I get to 38.

One of these sites needs to get this show on the road and start getting followers now before 2.0

if 11 was your only mmo just know its standard now a day for a server to be only down for 20-30 minutes for hot fixes.
XIV takes 2 hours to change a fishing rod. Or atlesat when Tanaka was in charge I'm sure after the new servers come in we'll be a bit more up to date.

As for the item lists and shiet YG is working on it fortunately and thank twelve they are!

No it's not standard. Most other MMOs make crafting recipes visible IN GAME. But if I remember right, Yoshi was working on this too.

Agreed, SE do need their own official database, FFXIV-DB.com is pretty easy to use though.

Use the advanced search put in 25-30 select body (or whatever slot you wana look for), tick botanist and you will get suitable body gear for those specs.

Bigglesworth can you please reduce the size of your signature.

If SE doesn't want to do this, maybe they should support the people going out on a limb doing their work for them and put their links on the lodestone website, or maybe even a little funding for hosting?

I think there should be an official database too. None of the fansites have updated yet, and though YG says they are they sure are taking their time. Pro has all the new items listed i think, but their recipes suck. I've been having to use the recipe list on the Lodestone here combined with the search feature in my browser to find recipes for anything i want to make now. And that is after i have spent a lot of time combing the wards in Ul'dah (since that's the only place anything is really sold) to see what stats the gear actually gives and if i can equip it. Then multiply that time by like 10 for all my classes and it eats the majority of my play time.

Personally i like how YG organizes things. I like how you could select a class and then it filtered all the gear that class could wear in each slot. Hell, if they updated the market ward search to filter by class and level for equipment i would be happy.

Recipes levels are now the level of the item being made.

I seem to be using YG/ZAM/Mooglebox AND the Lodestone to try and figure stuff out and even then at times I'm still confused.

I'd like Mooglebox if it actually had information regarding the stats on said items, but so far as I can see, it doesn't so it pretty much negates its purpose for me.

I think at this stage of the game, if the recipes are not going to be presented in game until we learn them, then we should have some kind of Official Database with a look-up feature and detailed information regarding stats. I'm truly a bit tired of having to scour four different sites to try and figure out what it takes to make one item and whether or not that item is useful to me or not.

Oh and one more crafting qualm I have is that the other day I decided I wanted to make a Copper Needle or some such and its listed as a level 1 skill. Easy right? No, apparently not. It requires a rank 30 item to make it. I feel like this should then make it a rank 30 item to create. This crafting system, while I actually like to craft using it, is not very intuitive...

They should just update their recipe search to show the stats of all the items, that would suffice for now.

Also, if you mean the whetstone, it can be bought rather cheaply from NPC(s).

I pretty much just bookmark this and CTRL+F both pages to look for something.

Great links! But I use this for gathering.

As for OP: having played FF MMOs for... a lot of years, it's clear they want us to experience fun from finding this stuff on our own. With which I agree/disagree all at once. Sometimes it really is too frustrating.

A hint, though: Could've saved yourself hours of searching if you'd just looked at the Market Wards first and compared there. Unless you also wished to compare with NM drops (though I'm not sure DoL and DoH have gear dropped from NMs, I honestly haven't looked).

I'm confused. If you open Mooglebox, click on (for example) "Body" under "Armor," it will list all the body armor. And under the "Def" column, it lists the item's defense. And under the "Abilities" column, it lists the stats on said items (for example, +2 Dex, +10 Gathering, etc.).

Or you can do a search for individual items, and it shows all that info.

I love all the links, but really, the recipes should all be available in game. This is 2011, not 2001.

Its also standard for servers to go down every week for hours at time to perform maintenance.

I dont mind more information being shown ingame but lets not act like other MMOs dont let third parties handle wikis and such.

this is incorrect. the level of the synth is not the same as the level of the item being made. it may be in some cases, but it is not for all. just think about it we have r51-r60 synths and there is no r51-r60 equipment so that cannot be true.

It's an awesome site for finding recipe, but still need to cross reference with other databases to find out if the item or any of its ingredients are sold by any NPCs anywhere, and also with the 1.19 patch notes to see if the item the databases say is sold by a vendor no longer is.

Considering I probably can't even afford the plane ticket until sometime in 2014..

This is another feature I'm hoping for once the servers and databases are re-done for 2.0 next year. If they really organize things right like they're talking about then we should end up with accurate character profiles with our current equipment, as well as a full search-able database of all of it in the game, from the Lodestone.

The recipe search function on the lodestone page is certainly a big step in the right direction. I'm excited to see what more will follow once 2.0 is here
