Farm with friends
Farm in pf or
Roll on anything
Make a a party or get in a nice Free Company. You'll fail way less. And they'll help you understand the mechanics. A8 is probably one of the best designed fights in the game IMO. Even if it essentially is a merry go round.
I understand the mechanics already though :\
I do agree it's a great fight, but the skill level in DF is just too low. I also have a tendency to avoid FCs....I never fit in well with groups of friends and whatnot.
Ah well, I suppose it's just me in this predicament. I'll just do it when I feel like it, if not, oh well.
This is always everyone's response, but most of us don't have people we can run with.
On topic, because I like the music to the last phase, I don't mind A8. The other day, I farmed it from about 9pm and didn't get my drop until around 5am, of course with the occasional breaks for food and such.
Aside from the first day, I've not wiped on A8 once. It's actually a super fun fight and kinda hard to mess up.
I don't duty finder anything but dungeons, though. If you're in duty finder you should just expect it to be terrible and be pleasantly surprised if it isn't.
Then make a party finder that states the intent of farming and to know what you're doing. Since you're doing runs with the same people everyone will get what they want quickly. Done this multiple times since patch, might have to wait a bit for it to fill but it's sure better than doing one fight for multiple hours imo. ^^
Almost never wipe on A8 DF or otherwise Almost everyone seems to understand all the mechanics, even the Swindler's surprisingly enough. A7 is another story, but even then it's only around 30-40% wipes on the 2nd week and it'll just get better as more people learn the fight.
Apparently I've had incredible luck, because I haven't had any issues with DF'ing that fight, nor any other Midas turns. This week I went one and done in all 4, in fact.
OK, maybe I've had incredible luck.
Yeah, you guys are really lucky. Or I'm really unlucky, which is quite possible considering I've rolled no more than 30 on the shaft in about 10 runs or so. The other runs were wipes, and greatly outnumber the successful runs :\
It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the thing requiring 4 shafts....I don't think I have 4 weeks minimum of patience for this >.>
Personally I don't mind a couple of wipes in A8 but yeah have to agree with you because the fight itself is a lengthy one like a synced T9, it's much more tiring and frustrating to wipe in there than other fights. Imagine a 1% enrage in there lol.
Anyway we're just on the second week of the patch so wipes are common for now since it's the 'second coil' tier of the raid after all and everyone are still on their previous patch gear. It will definitely be faster and less wipe down the road later on.
I had terrible luck with A8 this week, far more wipes and disbands than wins, but when it goes well, it really goes well, everyone doing their jobs flawlessly.
My recommendation is always going to be running in a premade. It doesn't have to be a psuedo-static, as OP puts it. Make some friends that play around the same time you do. Find an FC that's active when you're on. Join some social linkshells. If all else fails, put up a Party Finder group. I mean, there's alternatives to DF but you're shooting them down out of hand. I'm actually not the most social player myself (I'm a bit awkward and I'd just as soon go sequester myself crafting as I would doing stuff with friends) but there's things you just can't accomplish alone in this game. I actually have been going in there multiple times with FC mates and friends trying to get more Faust plating because our FC house needs an army of Faust striking dummies on the front lawn. >:3
I've been playing this game for years now, but have yet to make enough friends on at any given time to reliably fill even a 4man. The ones I have made don't usually play when I play anymore due to my job changing my previous play schedule. I've also mentioned that I am not a fan of FCs. I have this weird, severe social anxiety that is particularly bad in groups of people I know. I do not make friends easily or quickly.
My experiences in PF have always been iffy as well. Looting and scooting is a pretty common thing and it can take a while for them to fill up, even on Balmung. I wish the solution was this simple, but it's not for me at least. PF for whatever reason can become quite the dramafest as well.
I realize I'm in the clear minority here, but I don't think it's crazy to suggest that this loot system is very unfriendly to anyone who cannot reliably get a premade together for whatever reason. I think they should at least have 2 shafts drop from A8, or perhaps one from A8 and one from A7.
It's not like people are going to gear up too quickly anyways if they were to do that. Especially if they added a 2nd shaft to A8.
I did A8 13 or so times this week and I only had 2 abandons. A couple of the other runs had some hiccups but usually we got it down on the second go. Did em all through the DF. Them bad rolls, though! Oh lordy! I think I was still hearing the theme playing in my head for a few hours after I finally won a shaft.
I chose a different way. I rolled for crank only on A8. People just roll on shaft or spring.
So I actually cleared A8 twice: first time last week, then this week. And got my two cranks.
I bought the Lore body and craft pant. Thus, my left side is i220 in two weeks without any hard farming.
Easy :)
If I played on Balmung, I'd offer to run with you. I'm generally quite an upbeat guy and my stance would end up being to refuse to roll myself until you'd got your item (and if you had to go, I'd carry on alone no qualms). Then again, I'm often considered too nice a guy... I have got an alt on Balmung so if I can be arsed levelling and gearing that up I could help. We'll have to see what happens.
Sounds like you've just had some bad luck in DF OP :( I'm sorry.
I've had no issues with A8... I think I experienced a wipe once on day 1 or 2 of release and that's it. Good healers can mostly carry people not doing mechanics in the normal mode fights.. so wipes are pretty nonexistent as the mechanics are much more forgiving than in Gordias.
I hope your luck turns around.
1st: Very bad idea to add 6 new different items. what makes it worse is that those are just tokens (placeholder). On the current inventory space discussion its way too much!
2nd: Letting those item only drop in specific content. SE is too scared that content will die out, but forcing players doesnt help either - it just causes more frustration!
3rd: To be honest: First time I have seen in NORMAL mode (story) a boss going enrage frequently with different groups. Havnt SE said it will be mechanic based fight and not DPS check?
There is a reason why content will die out, and mostly because its no fun!
Stonefarming is much more fun than midas gear farming, just because you are not forced in a specific content... well... in theory because primals with 10 or less stones is a joke!
SE is calculating from a player who can do 24/7 the same content - lets say the fight duration is 2 minutes and you get 1 stone each time = a lot in 24h -> thats an inhuman calculation!
You can't expect your DPS members to click one button and clear, I've not wiped once on it due to an enrage and I've run them more than quite a few times now. Not dependant on a DPS check =/= being able to be done by people who aren't even trying enough not to try. We don't need SE to encourage bad players even more than they do now.
You know... Sometimes some groups just don't work out. Sometimes we would vote dismiss and the next group we would join would clear it from the first try.. It is based quite heavily on luck. That is why I joined an FC that is absolutely amazing and we almost always have 7 people out of 8 for farming Alex.
Easier said than done, unfortunately. Finding seven other people to get online at the exact same time can be very tricky - especially with conflicting schedules/time zones/interests.
With that said I generally find that the Duty Finder is generally decent. Yes, I get bad groups - but the majority are generally pretty good. If you're wiping more than once, though, sometimes it's best to just leave and try again.
Some days are just bad for it. Yesterday One of the people from my FC wanted to get the weekly down for the weapon token and I wanted it too so we went in and went through like 3-4 groups who wiped and wiped on stupid stuff. The first one the other Tank didn't know how to Tank swap at all or split damage think he was brand new but wouldn't admit it or listen when told what to do. Spent all his time ordering others around. The rest of the runs people were just taking easy to dodge damage and not splitting damage in the circle for some reason. Those circles with arrows pointing in mean the exact same thing everywhere and people still don't seem to understand. We had it in Void Ark last boss for how long now?
In the end we had to get others from the FC to come clear it which we did without many problems. Some days in DF I've had really competent groups that make things simple just some days it's like there is something in the water that makes people completely fail at everything. Everyone makes mistakes but some people just don't learn.
I've only had two things go badly tanking A8 for 4 hours trying to get a spring. The other tank was adamant about no tank swaps -without ever saying no tank swaps- and would full on flash-halone combo to keep it. I left him alone and then he died to tank buster stacks because I thought he could handle it. When I picked it up cause he died to Onslaughter he just moseyed around and said "this is why we dont do tank swaps" I'd been farming A8 for 3 hours, rolling badly on the spring I needed, doing tank swaps just fine and 2-tank soaking the double rocket punch but man...
The only other bad time was having another group vote abandon because a dps DC'd during and going 'we won't make dps check' without ever going again with an actual full group. Four Hours. 2 vote abandons. Otherwise I'd cleared A8N and just rolled horribly.
Hell, I cleared A7N solo-tanking cause the tank just stopped playing. His girlfriend said someone had crashed in the snow into his parked car.
All of this solo-queueing into Duty Finder.
It's not as hard as Extreme trials but still annoying to get it done every week. The worst part, yes, it's the time you have to loot the thing you want against 7 other ppl.
Well... It's also a matter of when you go in there. For example, early in the week, during 'prime time' on your server, you get more of the 'good' players, who go there to farm. During off hours, you get fewer players, and the 'good' players have mostly gotten their stuff already and stopped.
And the later you go through the week, the larger percentage of people who're still struggling with it for various reasons.
Like Adire says, if s/he's unable to play when 'most friends' play due to work schedule changes, I would guess there's a fair chance play time is at least partly outside of 'prime time' =/
Went farming with a couple of friends yesterday - started out as 7 people, but then one of us had to go to bed. One run we ended up with two first-timers (healer+dps), though we... actually didn't even register the 'new person bonus' message o.o None of us did. We wiped once, both due to not even thinking about asking if the new people wanted instructions or not, and due to us having gone into Midas for the past few hours and some of us having our brains oozing out from our ears. The first time I personally realized that at least one of the strangers was new was when the question 'is this floor supposed to be this hard?' came up.
Still, we beat it the second time, without needing any explanations (though to be fair, when you see six other people doing things, it's pretty easy to figure out what you're supposed to do). And if I remember right, both the newbies got their loot, too. (Seeing first-timers get loot always gives me a fuzzy feeling, even if I don't get anything. Don't exactly know why.)
The only thing that bothers me about it is the trend of groups giving up and bailing after one wipe.
many Balmungians in here. Why don't we do it together?
Make friends or use a PF.
Isn't that hard really.
I beat everything even SCOB with DF.
I dont like how you call "others"!
Just because "others" meet enrage, it doesnt mean they are not trying hard enough, point.
Just because "YOU" did not meet enrage it doesnt mean "others" are as awesome as "YOU" are!
