Hello,
I posted this in the Q&A thread for the next live letter but thought I'd be more likely to get a response here.
In the Toll of the Warden quest we see the emergence of a fearsome creature known as the Ascian. This grim voidsent entity was capable of striking fear into beastmen and common folk alike.
Yet, since then there has been nary a mention of its existence. As if it was just completely forgotten about. Was this creature lost in the 2.0 shuffle or can we expect to see more lore surrounding it emerge?

I was actually laughing about this the other day with some friends of mine; how it just got thrown out there really dramatically and then forgotten about.
gotta say, I'm curious about it and it would be fun to see something come off it. -

There's other things in the game, story wise, that's still up in the air. All 3 of city missions pre-Path of Twelve have things mentioned and forgotten. Spoiler from here on but Limsa especially; I'm still waiting for an explanation for the Admiral and -his- disappearance along with "That guy" who was mentioned when you held the musketeer firearm. The Admiral bit I'm sure is going to confuse the hell out of a new player especially when it comes to the Grand Companies.

Maybe the other characters in the game just decided to let that stuff go. I mean, getting the treasure island back from the sahagins, figuring out who framed you for stealing a gun from the musketeer guild, getting justice for the kid whose father was stomped by a raging released goobbue, clearing yourself of the woodsin, getting the crystal economy back on track, solving the mystery of the ascian who wandered by without hurting anybody... if it comes down to all of that or surviving a falling moon? I bet they were like, "F*** it, I know my priorities."

Haha, yeah, going off of experience with Final Fantasy XI, which has more or less the same writers...
They'll be coming back to all of this eventually, I'm sure. -

Just wanted to chime in...
You guys are absolutely right with your assessment of the situation. Similar questions were answered by Yoshi-P just last week when he was in L.A. to do a slew of interviews with the media and various websites. Basically, the main scenario (the Echo, the Ascians, the Waking Sands, your Path companion, etc.) will continue once the people of Eorzea have figured out how to deal with the coming calamity first. ;) -

I was just thinking about this today too, as I was re-watching old cut-scenes thanks to the new Inns. I was thinking Ascians were some sort harbinger of the apocalypse actually. A shame they won't be a part of the umbral-era storyline.

I assume that the main scenario has to change somewhat in 2.0. For one thing, many of the areas that the story takes you to are changing. But beyond that, Yoshida said that he didn't find just running from place to place all that interesting, which is one reason he decided to make the main storyline aimed at battle classes, with separate stories for crafting and gathering classes. So I assume that even if a lot of the story is the same, the way it plays out will be different.
If the dev/loc team IS giving the main scenario a re-write, I look forward to what they come up with. I think there was a lot of interesting stuff in the main storyline, but as people in this thread have mentioned, much of it was thrown out there and then just left hanging. Also, I often found it hard to tell who the various NPCs were or what they were talking about. Sometimes characters would just kind of change the subject at odd times, which was a little frustrating.
But it seems to me that the storyline is more focused and more fleshed out since the XIV redesign began. I don't get the "huh...wha?" feeling like I did with the original main storyline (and much of the FF XI story as well, to be honest). It's pretty refreshing, actually. For example, I really enjoyed the Twin Adder quest "Two Vaans are better than one". It had a nice cutscene, with fully realized exposition and an interesting conclusion. I love the job quest stories as well.
