AF White Mage hood raised up. Why can't it be done?

I vaguely recall (though I may be misremembering it) the devs said something about why the WHM hood can't be raised up to cover the head via /visor. Yet we got enemy WHMs that have the hood raised. Can't we have that too?

Did you see those enemies running around using /visor flipping their hood up and down at you? No? Didn't think so.

The problem lies within the use of the /visor command, I'm sure. What the players have and what they enemy has are two different meshes. The /visor command moves what's currently available (part of the mesh), and moves it accordingly. Simply put, unless the /visor command was adapted to swap meshes/models, it cannot be done.

Honestly, I think those enemies were given hooded WHM robes by SE on purpose as a sort of playful poke at the people wanting their hoods up on their robes. I enjoyed it but I think some people might be upset by it and think it's a deliberate insult.

Whilst that is true, SE could give WHMs an alternate glamour version of the robe with the hood raised. All they would need to do is use that mesh from Amdapor HM with the texture of the original AF set. The only additional work required would be making a clean texture for the hood itself, which may have already been done anyway as part of the process for these new models.

A robe/hood combo like some of the cowls we currently have. That'd be the easiest option I think.

If I remember right, the Eso gear for DRGs /visor command doesn't have an animation, it just appears open and close. I don't think it's be too difficult to add in that hood in to the current Artifact gear and just have it appear hooded/not hooded without an animation.

ps3 limitations. If we cant have options for the epileptic nightmare our hotbars turned into due to size limits, then multiple hood variations on a single piece is definitely far beyond our technology.

The crux of the issue is that the hood is part of the body armor not the head slot. There is no /visor or any other such command for armor peices other than head-gear. Could it be done? I imagine it would actually be pretty simple to make the /visor command also include specific peices of body armor and have a secondary check on what model /visor to use

-If body armor with hood - then use body armor
-If no hood present use /visor model for head if available.

Buuuut considering they let us know full well that the servers are bursting at the seams with limitations I bet that would be the likely scapegoat/answer to why they "Can't" do something like that.

I wish, those White Mages look so cool.

Yeah, would be nice to have it as a cowl/ 2-slotted version ... we got the eso hood .... but it just looks more like something a nun would wear

It is also a model priority issue and that could be a crazy mess. They need to figure out which hoods-up models have priority over which head pieces and haircuts.

Circlets and hairpins could easily be worn under hoods with little trouble but those need to be ided.

What about helmets? How do they interact with hoods? Do the hoods take priority or do the helms? There are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

The current hood-up models in Lost City HM may be a sign that SE is working towards making a /hood switch.

Simple solution would be to negate head-gear when /hood is up and they allready clip haircuts when needed for many helmets.

It will not be possible without redoing the WHM AF gear, replacing the 1 slot robe with a 2 slot robe and removing the headgear from the set.

/visor is for headgears, not 1-slot body gears

or like the AF2, removing the hood from the body design and make it a seperate gear you can wear on the head.

But the devs don't like to change old gear (WHM AF is already 4 years old)

Just give us a whm hood head piece SE, plz. And no, limitations WOULD NOT prevent this. Put it in the Gold Saucer or make it a reward of sorts, I don't care. Though for sure, most would prefer the hoods rather than the tiara/headbands you gave us :/

Funny...games like EQ have a /showhood command.
It makes you hood appear & disappear.
No animation. No one even cared there was no animation .
Just being able to have a hood covering you head/face and when you wanted to take it down...having it down was enough.

The multiple slot armors needs to go. Even if FFXI it was a bad idea. Losing out on a slot is very hard to compensate for.
Why & how did it bleed over into 14?
Whoever thought it up should be fired.

The servers should be fired & replaced too.
Anything with that many limitations needs to be put out of its misery.

Think it would be cool if you could attain a cowl varient, maybe exchange the old AF robe with one of Rowena's workers or something, knowing Square, it will have to be crafted, but I would love to see the hooded robe in the game, I have always liked the WHM AF gear.

I'd join their WHM legion of undead for a raised AF hood.

It would not even be that hard to do from the developers side "if" the models are already made which from a educated guess I think they are.

While they may not be able to have /visor working on a body gear all they would need to do is make an NPC (such as Raya-O-Senna) where you can trade in both the Healer Robe (and circlet) and Cleric Robe (and circlet) and get a two piece item which could even be a head gear that takes both slots up just in case that's the only way for it to work.

Would be the same logic on how you can trade in the Moogle Wand and get the newer version of it. Only thing they would need to worry about is making sure you can trade in all three versions of it (Healer, Cleric and the Augmented Healer) although I would not say no to that dirty version being thrown in too, I actually like the look of that one >:D

Although to be fair I would imagine if the developers could have done it by now they would have, but still something I think should be done!

No, they really can't. The WHM hood can't be raised because it's not a head slot item. The HM doesn't have this kind of restriction.

Did you even bother to read my post? I suggested they implement a NEW robe that covers both the body and head slots with the hood raised. We already have the option to glamour multi-slot items over single slot items now as well so there would be no problems doing this.

I'm not talking about a /visor toggle. I'm talking about a NEW robe with the hood raised.

I always hated the cowls leveling as a WHM. When Darklight was the gear we all had, I asked for a way to /visor the hood off.

I noticed the Dravanian/Orthodox mage robes have this same issue with a hood that can't be pulled up.

On closer inspection, I think I know why the hoods can't be raised. While I idin't take a screen shot I did get a good look at those White Mages... THEY ARE BALD!

Thats the only reason WHM doesn't get a good hood, hair restrictions.

I got the impression that they simply didn't want to adjust existing and new hair to work with hooded gear every time either of the two were added to the game, sad as it is say. I mean just look at WHM AF2, that has a hood but only because they completely erased hair from the equation by fitting it with that skull cap thing.

I do not see why hair would be an issue when they already shown to be able to change hair styles on the fly (it seems most long hair has a shorten version). The best example I can think off is the Highland Hood. If you equip it, it changes the hair at the back and front to fit in without the hair clipping.
