Closer to .hack than I thought!

.hack is the reason I got into mmorpgs and the reason I love them. And 5 months ago this happened (which I obviously found out about today lol): http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/001184.html

I looked up the video on youtube and got so many wonderful feels over how close I am to .hack lol

I'm just curious, would you guys ever play the game like this? (Obviously a lot of work would have to be put into the VR tech to make it viable in dungeons and what not)

I for one think I most DEFINITELY would. I looked up articles form ppl who tried the demo and they seemed to really enjoy it despite the unfinished-ness of it. I'd love to use this tech as a gatherer, running around mining. Ah, the dream. So thoughts?

I need to move back to Japan, posthaste. If that's where this tech is gonna be then................

I know it already happened but. It'll happen again. Probably in Tokyo again.

Wow, that'd be incredible. I sure hope making that demo was an initial step towards eventually opening up the whole game on Playstation VR once it comes out.

I recall the devs saying this was just a bit of fun. They currently have no plans to make the game VR compatible.

VR MMOs won't really be a thing until VR itself has taken off. It's gaining popularity through the likes of the Cardboard but it won't hit critical mass until the major brands launch their units over the next year.

It's more like Log Horizon. I look forward to getting the VR gear then getting trapped in the gameworld :3

That could arguably be worse, though if I remember my .hack right atleast the Log Horizon version would be a bit better with how you use your attacks and all.

Yes. It will serve as the ultimate inspiration to git gud. And I'll still be healing and marking anyone with rude comments for death. :)

On-topic, I would certainly play it. Perhaps it'll make some of the grinding (specifically the coin-flip of destiny that is the level 60 roulette) more enjoyable and entertaining.

Mh..probably not. I really, really prefer to have a super wide view of everything, I tend to play all zoomed out and play only ranged classes because I have a view of the whole battlefield.
Being limited to an in-person perspective would drive me completely mad x.x

On the other hand, I also want that "actually BEING in a video game" feeling one day, so..a bit torn :3

Oh yea one could "enjoy" the vr experience of being knocked off and staring at the floor while your team kills titan

For a game as big as this I'd likely pass only because the camera is such a huge part of this game. How would you let's say handle A4 fireballs with VR? Now maybe if it were a 4 player version of Skyrim, Fallout, and maybe a more fine tuned Bloodborne, I'd give up my money immediately.

Hehe that level 50+ White mage with a sprout still. :P

I'm hoping Oculus Rift has some sort of support for PC.

I mean getting trapped in the game is obviously the #1 goal here Lol

Yeah I wonder how mechanics would work with this. It'd get annoying having to look down all the time to check the floor for attacks. #neckdamage

Probably not as a melee dps or tank. I dont want to be staring at monster crotch 24/7 :/ The game doesn't seem fully compatible with VR with its lock-on battle system. Probably be more fit for games like Tera or Black Desert. Maybe even Phantasy Star Online 2.

Better the Twilight Incident than the Aincrad Incident. Comas are much more preferable to straight up dieing.

you realize that VR for FF14 is a no go? mostly because a lot of mechanic of fight ask to have a wide vision of the situation.

plus, the VR is something quite expensive that not everyone can afford. you can wait maybe about 4-6 years before see mmorpg in VR

As remarkable as such VR tech would be for gaming, and I did enjoy the .Hack anime and game series, I wouldn't play a VR game. If the 3DS' defining gimmick is any indicator, it would be bad for my health. Just 5 minutes of using the 3d feature on a 3ds is enough to make me physically ill and bed-ridden with a terrible migraine. And this kicks in shortly after use. (Which is why I bought a 2ds. Why pay extra for a feature that I'm never going to use, right?)
