How bad is it on your server? Lamia is already a barrens chat :/
It's fine on Lich so far.
There's like three newbies but more are being added.
That's interesting. The mentor chat being the only global one is now used for the craptalk, heh?
I wonder if this could lead to a real worldwide chat channel. Let's hope it doesn't get abused much till then.
People are going to be busy with new content this morning. I know the mentor channel on Siren was super busy this morning so I moved it to a different chat channel cause it was spamming my regular ones. Personally I'm going to be working new content today other than having had time to sign up for the program.
Not sure how the mentor chat can become barrens chat when those players can be kicked from the channel by any other mentor.
If there is abuse you are allowed to report them. Even says so when you first sign up.
Didn't get into the channel myself, as it was fill, but a friend who was in it said that it was filled with nothing but tank STR-to-VIT change QQing. Sounds like it's really working as intended, lol.
Haven't gotten into **any** channell yet. All full , everywhere. Give it a week or so, and about 2 runs of people getting void ark or something likewise for their 1 lore mentor bonus before they resign lol.
You think after all this time SE would finally understand how NA operates but time and time again they add this kind of stuff hoping we will use it as intended.
No gilsellers in the mentor channel yet?
Giving any player the ability to kick is silly unless they actually follow up on punishing those who kick those with no good reason.
They should just add multiple channels for novice network; there, problem solved.
edit:misunderstood some aspects of the system.
Agreed Trine. I was like "yeah, ready to be an awesome mentor, let's help newcomers learn". Message everywhere i teleport is "novice network full". Haven't seen it once yet..
Increase player limit on these networks, SE? kthxbye.
Ahh, thanks for the clarification. TBH i thought it would be more like over-saturation of mentors. Too many chiefs not enough indians.
Well that will be a problem for a while until more newbies get invites but really the concern most people have here is that it'll just be used a crap talking channel. The restrictions do a lot to keep many out but it's not really that difficult to meet requirements to become a mentor so there is a good chance it'll become a place for trolls and idiots within a couple of weeks.
I haven't been able to get in yet.
It's probably for the best I don't see what people are informing our novices to do...
i was able to get in since the beggining and 100 mentors 3 sprouts....lol 1h later 100 mentos 30ish sprotus until last time i checked 100 mentos and 60ish sprouts
i was surprised....sprouts asking questions and mentors answering everything .... some jokes and laughs....so in my server the chat is working as intended i guess. I was expecting trolls and whatnot
so thumbs up for Moogle ;)
So far on Gilgamesh it's been interesting. We've been sitting on 100 mentors to 5-17 sprouts all day. Most of the sprouts just don't want to talk. We've actually had more new players ask how to leave the channel rather than ask someone in it for help. So in terms of 'new players ask for help' it's been about four or five actual questions since it opened up.
On the mentors side, when a legit question is actually asked, the new players get solid answers. They get quest names, locations, what items you need, pretty much everything to answer their question and then some. So it's been a pretty good response to the few meager questions.
There have been some barrens chat moments where conversation would veer off and early in the morning where there were no new players on it was pretty much just used to spread information about new patch stuff.
TL;DR On Gilgamesh it seems the sprouts don't want help.
Well, on Siren, I was on for 6 hours and the only "trash talk" there was were people arguing over which Final Fantasy was better. Luckily though, once it got out of hand, a few people stepped in.
As I knew might happen, the situation on Goblin is more mentors than sprouts, sprouts seemingly confused and blindsided by another new chat channel, people signing up just for the achievements/possible rewards, and frankly, too many cooks in the kitchen.
Disappointed, I pretty much told them if they were there for any reason other than helping a new person, and with no other motive than to actually help, then they might want to reconsider. I've thus gone silent in the channel (and have been helping new people anyways), at least until the numbers of "mentors" thin out.
I was able to get in, people were talking about random things instead of helping. I stepped in to stop it and i got vote kicked. I hope the GM looks into it.
Yes I am a Mentor, but what is the point of a mentor/mentored chat channel when there 100 mentors to 1 sprout? and all of them contradicting each other, to talking over each other so they sound informed?
Well the fact that mentors are automatically added, but sprouts are not is one thing. Mentors have to go out of their way to invite sprouts to join it. If no one does, then there won't be any. Also, it's day one. Give it a bit to stabilize and it might turn into something better. Mentors just have to realize that instead of complaining that there's no sprouts, they can get some in the networks themselves.
Yeah, there are a few sprouts that I've seen that were confused. But we just explained it to them when they asked. They were actually pretty happy about it.
but with the channel always full, my bf and I cannot get into the channel anyways if we leave a zone for a more populated one one
How does this work for joining the channel, because Ive been online 24-7 since the patch and only got into it once, then left it, but now can't get back in it. Does it require area change because it sure does not automatically invite you in a queue, or if it did, it does not work on Hyperion.
Everyone has still been really helpful, though there was a fight amongst the mentors (about speaking language of all things???) that got resolved quickly.
Believe it or not but on excalibur the novice channel has been extremely helpful. Of course at 5 am it was 100 mentors to 1 novice lol. But most of the chat was mentors helping novices and even mentors answering questions for other mentors. Just having that crown by my name makes me want to give 110% so I'm a good example ^_^
Yeah I'm hoping to be able to help. Nothing I haven't done in the past.
I have had friends tell me that Hyperions Mentor chat hasn't been very civil. Mentors being kicked because they pull a hunt too early or something else completely unrelated. Again I haven't even been in to see it, but I'm afraid if I even say "Hey cut it out, this is for helping novices" I'll just get kicked. :\

I'm not sure what it's intended purpose people thought it was gonna be used for.
The requirements to be a mentor are pretty slim. You just basically need to like the game well enough to "explore" it on some level and play it a few months tops.
Why wouldn't it get taken over by people with less than kindly ambitions? What help do the "newbies" really need? I can remember back in the day that people might need a hand with their level 30 job quests or something or some tips as to where something was. I haven't heard a question about that kind of stuff for a long time. Wouldn't mentors outnumber new players like 100/1?
Kudos to the people that joined it with the kindly ambitions of course. I know there are kind souls out there to willing help people, just I think their voices are going to be overwhelmed by like the same forces that these forums are overwhelmed by... I mean... these forums... people never get mad and never beat to heck the decent topics right? :P
