How long did it take you to clear Thordan EX?

With 3.2 around the corner I know a lot of players are scrambling to get Thordan done before he gets the pity buff. I'm helping my missus get hers but as usual PF is producing mixed results. New players sneaking in, people ragequitting after 1/2 wipes or players just generally being derp.


So how long did it take you to get your Thordan clear?

Thordan's getting nerfed?!

I just started trying it a few days ago, I'm at the meteor phase now (though I did only start HW before Christmas.)

Would like to clear it before the buff but I suspect that won't happen...

Yes, it's standard practice for EX fights/Minstrel's Ballad trials to get an Echo buff in the major patch following their initial release. Starting in 3.2, Thordan will bestow 5% Echo after each wipe (up to a maximum of 25%), so long as the party lasted a predetermined amount of time (I believe the cutoff is 3 minutes) before the wipe.

More directly on topic, I haven't attempted the fight yet. I don't like fights with really disparate phases (like T9 or Thordan), and I only really worry about the weapon for my main job (which always gets relic). I'll probably get a clear for it sometime during 3.2 for kicks.

With FC group we beat it during our 3rd event (each 2,5 hours). Before that we used 30 min of one event to do a blind run. So up to 8 hours total.

Our biggest trouble were towers and then the horrible phase with ground AoEs and tethers and puddles and everything.

Hum, its really hard to down thordan ex with the pf, i remember how many pf try i do with ravana, and finally clear it in a farm group lol.....

My static down thordan with more or less 15h of try, with i200 weapon and some savage stuff (a1/a2)

I guess lately people don't really care about it anymore? The first month or so after it came out you could go learn it in party finder in one group, then later join a farm party like it was no big deal. I got a clear with like 2 friends and 5 strangers in party finder like the first or second week it was out...then later, I'd just party finder a farm group and get a few tokens that way. That's how I got the barding and the weapons I wanted... Granted, at the time, it was 50/50 if you'd find a farm party that worked well together... but if were persistent, you'd find a nice jolly group and beat a few times after maybe 2 hours or so effort.

Despite joining a "farm" party now with no "Law message" recently I haven't seen a clear by that method recently when I've tried for fun. It's like people don't remember or care lately on how to do it. Maybe it's easier to do it with your friends but harder to go do it with strangers? I assume many got a clear or something with a couple friends but then just get thrown to heck in confusion when a stranger does mechanics different. Probably when the fight was newer, people had to do it in a similar more strict fashion since we had a lot less gear... Maybe now people want to play it fast and loose with mechanics or something and lose? iono That would definitely make it harder to do with strangers if that was the case.

But now there will be a silver pigeon mount in there on tuesday? Maybe it will be easier to find a group then... hopefully... I want me a flying pigeon!

I tried it for 20 minutes and then gave up because those phase 1 fire aoes are too hard to see and they are laggy anyway so I would have to learn the entire skill rotation and evade before they appear like in titan.

with static , 2 or 3 days i think it was (2h each day) ,we wiped to mistakes on 1 trys then we got to last last phase when everything is going on at the same time , ground aoe , ice and tethers...wiped and wiped on that :P , once u pass that ...easy kill :) , is a fun boss i enjoyed it a lot when learning , thats how bosses should be :D

Never got past meteors so I just quit.

I won't even try the new ex trial in 3.2 either.

Honestly it sounds like the nerf crowd is a blessing for her. No disrespect to Matt Affleck.

You in the right thread gurl? This content is being tailored to the 'no time, no care, gimmie' crowd.

A week or two at most in Party Finder, building my own parties. This was right after release of it.

Was pretty easy.

3 days with static, and without looking any guides. Half of static had 210 weapons (upgraded eso or a4s), so we didn't feel any dps checks.

Maybe 2 months of casual attempts. Still no DRK weapon but ultimately it doesn't matter. Nothing easy about it doing it with PF.

On the second or third day, I think. I pick up on fights very quickly, some members in my static not so much though, and due to our short raid times we didn't manage to clear it. I was picked up by another group of friends later on who already had it on farm so I got a few good runs in without being too much of a hindrance.

Unfortunately right now all the people who have THEX on farm already have all their weapons. PF is now mostly people who have cleared once or twice but still have many difficulties with mechanics, people trying to learn, and the occasional on-farm people who want to finish their THEX weapon set or want to help their friend(s) in the party.

I tried it once with a PF group for about an hour.
We got as far as the two knights that alternate Shield Oath/Sword Oath before disbanding and I haven't been back since.

May try it in DF for fun but I don't expect to clear it anytime soon.

3 raid days of i think between 1.5-3 hours? i remember having to be late to our thordan raid days because i was busy during the week 3.1 dropped.

Haven't at all yet. Tried when it first came out but not many could get passed either the tower or dive bomb dash phase.

Tried a few days later, stuck on the knight phase. The one PF I actually did setup we got to the meteor phase after a few tries, but that was it, and I haven't seen the phase since.

Internet then died on me a few days later and I was out for a few weeks ><

So far behind now that not many tend to care or aren't on. So I kinda gave up on it. Shame too, it seemed like it was a pretty interesting fight, least from the phases I saw.

The mechanic is really tough for me but I clear it in 2 weeks after thordan EX announced.

Less than a week.

Cleared today, it was something like 6-8 hours total over the last 3 weeks.

Haven't set foot in it.

Started trying the day he launched, still trying since almost every group I have joined can't clear meteors more than once.

Have to deal with divebombs but the reward is just 5 ilv higher than no-upgrade eso weapons ... No thank you.

Still have yet to do so. With every group in PF being "Farm group, no bonus", or "Practice; MUST HAVE EXP UNTIL...", and people rage quitting after two-three wipes after setting up your own PF multiple times... Just seems easier to not bother.

Well I don't think buff will make the fight easier, it's not really a dps check, more a "mechanics" nightmare ^^

In the first 2 weeks of the fight being out.

Took me a week,full time, after rulettes.
practice every day with a lot of unsuccessful pf groups,im surprise some ppl took 8hrs only,by the time I got the fight memorize the hardest part was to find a group at the same level of practice

hopefully the echo nerfs and new mount will encourage more players to at least attempt this fight

Pretty much how it's been with every other fight they've added Echo to that had various instant death mechanics in it. Unless you are able to bypass the mechanic entirely with the help of the extra damage (usually not the case; if anything you just have to deal with the mechanic for a shorter length of time), Echo usually ends up not being a help at all.

It really is a super fun fight and I hope people try it, that being said I'm running with a preformed group to farm it, DF is going to be a nightmare lol

Echo and the new ilvl should make the fight a whole lot easier. One of the main things that causes wipes are meteors not being down fast enough. Others would be tanks getting dropped during the two knight phase, not catching towers, or not being full hp during the unavoidable aoe from kotrs. Going to have more leeway to work with said buffs.
