Benediction "Cast" Time ?

I don't know if anyone else experience this, but it really bothers me. In an oh-shit-i'm-gonna-die moment where I reach for my benediction - and cast it - I still die. I see the hp numbers float on the screen, but there I am still dead. And when I get raised, the thing is still in the middle of it's 5 minute cooldown.

I feel like if I die - it shouldn't have been cast or begun to cooldown? (I can accept it wasn't cast fast enough and I get hit and die, that's not the issue I have with this).

If it's an "instant" cast skill, and fires off, why am I still on the floor when it's used? I'm alive when it fires off - but obviously the "animation" cast time takes a moment for it to be applied, and then I die, and then it applies. But still, grrrr, it bothers me. Like don't apply it if I'm dead and save me the cooldown at least?

(Also - for the sake of clarity I'm not talking about dying from a 1 hit attack, I mean I'm at 10% hp, and something hits me for 15%)

This is a common theme, Hallowed Ground works the same way as the ability goes off for real at the end of the animation. While it's an instant cast the animation is still a "cast time".

Not 100% sure this applies to bene, but it applies to quite a few lvl 50 insta save spells.

Happens to me with Living Dead and today with Tetragrammaton. Very frustrating.

The fact that the character have to spin his butt and look happy to heal annoy me a lot XD
Plus my character's butt is so big that it take forever to work...*sigh*

I was about to say, have you seen Auri males? XD Birthing hips ok. /Especially/ in a lot of the healer robes. Unfortunately it doesn't save us from Benediction animation lag but at least we...look pretty?

It can be rather frustrating, but I do believe it is working as intended. We have buffs in the game, such as Ley Lines, that apply their effect immediately. So there isn't much of a problem server side with 'instant' abilities. But all of these instant abilities like Benediction, Hallowed Ground etc. seem to activate after a quick animation sequence.

So in practise, no it's not 100% instant, the animation is instant and the healing follows it shortly after.

On a slightly different topic, I do think WHMs are often a little too stingy with their Benedictions, sometimes it is worth using it if you don't have Tetra up and the tank is getting quite low. You don't need to wait until they are actually at around 5% or less.

Yea the short short cast time has made me miss many saves on tanks/dps/whoever.. just because they took 1 more tick of damage within that 0.5 seconds :/

No matter how used to it, I still cannot guage that 0.5 delay because it's more like a "oh shitttt-but-wait-half-a-sec-more button" instead of an insta-heal

to be honest, SE should seriously do one of the following with bene:
1) make it really instant, like tetra already is
2) if the target dies before the healing happens, prevent the skill from going on CD
come on SE, please!

You can't prevent the cd from being used because if the target die there auto-self-target happends and you shower yourself from overheal

And even your last time from the wall won't stop it !

If I remember correctly, using a macro would circumvent this. If you set it to work only on a specified target, if the target dies before the cast, then the ability won't be executed because there is no valid target.

I seem to remember this working, but I may be mistaken. I had this problem a lot and spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to account for it, so perhaps my timing just got better rather than the macro working.

yeah that can happen, but it can also happen that the target dies WHILE the animation is doing its "work" above the targets head. due to this no healing happens at all and the skill goes on CD. happened to me more often than i can count... at least THIS should not be possible!

Tetra shouldn't have a problem, the only reason that would happen is because you casted way too late. Tetra is super instant (never had an issue with it).

Tetra is sooooo fast that it cast before CS drop sometime...
And it's annoying XD

Always been the case and always been annoying, Hallowed Ground suffers the same problem.

I believe the problem lies with the fact that requests to the server that the ability has been used is only sent after animation.
