What was your most SHINING moment as a DPS tanking a dungeon/raid.

After killing the ants passed the 1st boss, the WAR decides to leave for reasons unknown. I shift to Fist of Earth stance and pop all the defensive CDs I could use for every small pull. We break the 1st honeycomb and decided to have Titan-Egi tank. It did go so well.

Up until we get to the 2nd boss, (that one giant bee I cant remember), I let the SMN start the pull with Titan-Egi and try to ease up on dps, to keep myself from ripping hate. However, despite all of the heals, Titan-Egi falls to the bee sting. I try to keep as much hate as possible while in Fist of Earth Stance to mitigate whatever I can and rotating CDs. The bee nearly kills me 3 different times not paying attention to the Boss's ability called "Ally" as I am not used to this situation.

During the insuing chaos, a DRK joins the party, but is locked out. Watching us as we rip this bee to shreds without a tank.

TL;DR - Tanks are overrated :P

I don't know about "shining" but last night I did have to tank Irminsul in Void Ark through the entire fight.

I think in the tanks' defense, they didn't know Irminsul had to be tanked; it's not totally clear that it does anything besides periodic AoE. Unless of course, you're the person with the most hate on it, in which case you DO notice, especially if you're a DPS.

Probably when I tanked the last boss of Tam-tara HM. Healer and other DPS were dead, I was tanking for whatever reason...we were down to about 20 percent and dying quick.
I whip out my awesome LB2 - back then still the healer one for BRD - and boom, we live, boss dies.
It was great.

My shining moment of tanking as a DPS was from long before Heavensward was a thing. I ended up monk-tanking Titan EX from around 10% when both tanks got knocked off. We were running in Duty Finder, hence two tanks. Fists of Earth, Keen Flurry, and a Scholar that spammed the hell out of Adloquium pulled us through. The best part was, that's the run I won my pony from. :3

Back when t9 was current, mt died in first phase to cleave. Held aggro on BLM through raven's beak (RIP good manawall) and lasted long enough for mt to be rezed and take back hate. Then went on to kill the fight for the week without anymore deaths.

I was doing Titan ex unsynched (5 people) with my FC for ponies.

During heart phase we accidentally freed our only healer in the landslide.
Black Mage goes on physic duty during adds but gets a lag spike and eats a landslide.

So it's only me (monk), bard and tank.
Bard wasn't able to avoid some bombs so she dies during the stomps.
Tank too dies at some point.

So it's me and Titan (3%~)
I got some lucky dodges, used every self healing CDs available and almost died just as I killed Titan while everyone was cheering.

No pony dropped. ;_;

My best BLM tanking happened last year in Titan HM. The MT died somehow (I think the OT got landslided off at some point too) and I suddenly heard that ding sound effect that meant I was now the main punching bag. In a panic I ran over to where the tank was supposed to stand and faced Titan away from the party. Then I put up manawall, and cackled as his mountain buster did 0 damage. Of course, once manawall was used up his next auto attack brought me down to 20% hp, but luckily the tank was raised and provoked it before I met an ugly end.

SE, why did you nerf my beloved manawall? It was the best panic button for those many many times I forgot to use quelling strikes before my triple flares.

Was the healer in this situation, but I joined an Aboretum run where the tank just left after the first boss. We wound up going without them and beat the dungeon without a tank. Same party setup too, had a SMN and a MNK.

It was Stone Vigil (hard), set up with me as NIN another NIN,WAR and WHM. So at the last boss the fight starts well enough till the second boss pops, at that point dmg starts on the NIN and WHM, as they are dodging,they both die from the same fireball. Once they are down the tank gets sandwiched by both bosses and he shortly meets his end also. So there I am left alone with boss one at 42% and a full second, I proceed to dodge and dance my butt off and manage to down them both all the while making them watch from the peanut gallery. That one time, back in the day, when WoD was ripe with bad tanks and lazy people and arguments.

My BRD was tank central on this one run; the garm for my team, the dragon that spawns central, the eye boss, scylla, xande, 5-head-dreg, atomos, giant puppy, the final boss.

All of them
ALL

they only tried to fight it for the eye, a bit of the second trash, and a fraction of the 5-dreg before all alliances just let me go to see if i could do it.

The Chimera fight in one of the low level dungeons. Healer died around 50%, others died around the 20% and I was left to kite and range attack from a distance with few moments of close quarters attacks when I had the chance till defeat. Going to AV in 1.0 days with 7 players and not full party and when we reach miser shit happen near the end with both tanks and healers dead and just me and other 2 mnks alive to take her last 10% getting poison dot constantly. We successful win with me with 150 hp tanking her and the best of it MNK DL body pop in my loot. So I became another of less than 10 mnks with full set in whole server. And we did in speed run time less than 25m to make pop the 5th chest which has bodies for who don't know.

Nothing else could beat this so far even all ARR and HW content.

Bard OT during behe fight in CT with 5 other tanks being to lazy to do so. All teh iron giants.

And generally tanked most bosses once or twice as bard when the tank died...

Seeing as it has happened on multiple occasions it has lost it's "shine", lol

Probably jip cutters cry, poor newbie blm all alone not long on the clock but this guy wasn't giving up.

I'm on drg a job I haven't touched in several months, just the boss left to do. We duo it down no probs :)

Not my most shining DPS tank moment by any stretch of the imagination but the most recent, tank and other DPS died while the demon book in the library was at around 70% or so, the whitemage and myself spent the next few minutes burning the bastard down

The first time we went into Ifrit EX (I was a BLM) we only read up a little bit on what to do, but when the needles came, I LB3'd without thinking, needless to say it was a right good laugh.

Then our clear (a few wipes after) everyone was dead but one of the healers and myself, I was a bit disorientated but everyone just shouted at me to Scathe and I did so, Ifrit died to that one Scathe, right after he thwacked the healer to death.

Looking back, that was by far the tightest situation I have ever been in.

I ended up tanking the last boss in void ark last night when it was sub 5% and finished it with like 500hp.

Definitely that time me and the FC went to get a bunch of us (myself incldued) a Mog EX clear back in 2.5... I went as dragoon, a class I hadn't perfected back then (I used to main bard) but our group already had a bard. So, long story short, he's doing the final, wiping Memento Moogle. I panic, hit the limit break 3. We had already spent ages wiping on him... I didn't wanna do that abominable thing again...

So, my limit break fires off literally 0.1 second before he finishes the Memento Moogle cast. He dies. I swear I was sweating buckets in relief.

The other one was that Void Ark run where my entire party got busted by Cetus' dropping AOE thingies... except for me. I was at full health thanks to liberal application of Second Wind, Bloodbath and Life Surge. Alliance chat was a riot, to say the least!

Come to think of it, my FC leader once monk tanked T5 from start to finish (unsynced of course) because none of us had our tanks leveled yet. It was super fun :D

Dunno if it counts as tanking but I managed to scathe kite the final boss of Fractal shortly after HW launch after my entire party wiped and killed it as it killed me.

Group of 3 mates playing together (Tank, DRG and SCH) and me (BRD).
Tank DC'd before final boss (forgot name).
His mates want to finish it anyway so in we go, ripped hate off DRG instantly and he never got it back, couldn't kite him too much as needed the deeps of the DRG, took long enough but not one wipe.
Bloody good job from the SCH and Eos on that one.

I tank as a healer alot. Especially in trial roulette.

One Medica 2 and all the aggro is mine, and shroud of saints doesn't do jack squat against a Tank who just isn't generating any aggro.

I've tanked Ramuh, Ifrit, Thordan, Moggle Mog, Cape Westwind, and Garuda.

It's not too horrible so long as the other healer has my back, but it's terribly sad that those tanks can't seem to grab aggro off of a healer.

I pulled the second boss in Neverreap when that was EX roulette. I did it as a joke, I queued with a friend who was tanking. He happened to DC right when I used Jump... I DRG-tanked the whole fight, healer kept me alive just fine, we beat the boss before my friend loaded back in.

BLM tank and I finished off the boss solo, although there wasn't a lot of health left MAGETANK. It was that boss in Qarn normal, that's all though :P

I've tanked Saint Mocianne's Arboretum from start to finish as a Ninja. The tank dropped as soon as we started and we never had a replacement join, so we just went with it. It was fun. Thankfully I had an excellent healer.

Dunno if this counts as tanking but recently I NIN'd Aurum Vale and on the second morbol patch the pull got a bit big. The tank, the healer and the other dps died and I was left with all the mobs on me. So I ran back to the previous room and kited the mobs in circles until the rest of the party returned. They laughed before rejoining the fight. Super ninja running away skills ftw. XD

Mine was a T7 clear( pre-echo/nerf). We had been working on it for a few weeks and had some really close calls but would ultimately wipe due to a untimely shriek/voice or someone didn't turn for a petrifaction. On one of our nights we had executed everything perfectly and were in the final stretch when a few succumbed to petrifaction at 2-3% and we started falling like dominos. At the end I was able to put a poison pot on and work the last .5% and kill shot w/ a steel peak. One of the most satisfying feelings I have had in this game and I definitely had my chest puffed out leaving the instance lol.

i've had so many of these moments during dungeons as ninja.

stone vigil was always a main one. instead of giving examples, i'll give you music that always accompanies those moments in my mind.

Cutter's Cry's final boss.

Tank died and healer lasted about 45 seconds before it was just a Black Mage and myself as a Monk. Rather than just stand around until we died, I turned on Fists of Earth and started tanking the chimera. Now, obviously it was going pretty terribly - until the BLM started casting Physick. A drawn-out fight ensued, but we managed to win it, albeit barely.

My birthday, we were doing t13 for fun. Both tanks died during divebombs so I had aggro on bahamut when he came back. Suddenly I hear "don't voke it off him" and a split second later I eat the first hit of akh morn unmitigated \o/ felt great

Tanking as Archer at Totorak before 3.0 because the tank totally derp and don't know how to tank and keep aggro.
