Barbershop in 1.2 plz? :D

So ... it's been discussed before in varying degrees. But I really think we should get a barbershop somewhat soonish. I love how my character looks, but I'd love to just change up my style every once in a while.

It'd super easy on square's side. Just make a UI element for it, which has the server machine change a couple entries in your character's data. Let us change style, color and highlights.

It'd be such a small thing that meant so much. At least for me.

They already said it was coming but I doubt it is as simple to add as you think.

i think it will come after 2.0

It actually really is simple to do wouldn't take but 15mins to make one.

Maybe 15mins for each race :p

i'd imagine we'll maybe get one before 2.0, possibly, but if not, then no biggy, as long as we get one eventually~

You do realize that 1.19 is currently released right? You realize that they would have to start working on 1.20 immediately afterward to ensure it's on time right? You realize they already scoped the work load they could complete in this timeframe and assigned it to people right?

I can actually pretty confidently say that it wouldn't be difficult. Reason I say that, is I've had experience working with multiple gaming engines. The code to swap a character's hair style and color is already in the game (character creator). Then you'd have to fit that code to work in-world. And then the UI element to cycle through the options. Which, again could mostly be a copy and paste job.

I guess the hardest part would be the server communications, even though that'd be still fairly easy.

I'm sure it's at the top of their to-do list. You know, with all the server instability and spaghetti code they (admittedly) have to fix, which of course is less important.

Honestly at this point, I don't really care about frills. They could even work it into the character selection screen for all I care, whatever makes it easier.

Either way, from a programming standpoint, it's pretty easy. object.encounter hairstyle= inkey("I see you want to change your hair. Which style would you like, a, b, c, d") pc_id_hairstyle = hairstyle to set the variable. Assigning that to a character created and presto, done. And depending on how the database was set up, you wouldn't have to do it differently for each race if it was set up properly, because a, b, c, d would be the defined hairstyle per the race.

I too hope that one of these will be added, preferably before 2.0, but if not... I'll live. Lol. But it would be really nice to change ones appearance once in a while.

Ya you guys make it sound far easier than I suspect it would be. Their database design is garbage, hence why they are rebuilding it.

Um they would have to put in visual to show what the new hair would look like. Unless you plan on choosing between hair A, B, C, D, E and Color 1, 2, 3 , 4 , 5. Cause I really don't want to use a outside website to do everything in the game.

Maybe you need to use a dictionary to look up the word ignorant and arrogant. How does calling someone ignorant/stupid make me arrogant. I don't feel superior, I'm using logic. If you think it would be "simple" to implement this and that they are going to do it for 1.20 then you're ignorant. If you know it would take some work and push something else off the list of implementation then you're stupid since hairstyle is purely aesthetic and affects nothing.

It's been stated that the "barbershop" is coming in 2.0. Someone creates an illusion that it should come out in 1.20. People argue about the illusion someone created. It's a sad world.

Why would they implement a system, that would alter the server code of each character, to then debug it... if they're gonna change the engine in the end? They aren't gonna waste time and the developers efforts for somethings that's just gonna be deleted in the end.

Oh dear Lord! When did I ever say that it was easy to implement a barber at 1.20 or before 2.0? Did you even read what I said? Actually, I agree with you that it might not be easy to implement a barber before 2.0, but that is not the point. My point is that your method of communication was very disrespectful towards the TC. Instead of name calling, you should have simply explained to him/her how she/her was wrong. If you are really using logic, you would have understood that calling people by negative names is the not the best to get your message across. We are not in preschool anymore. 1) I'm not asking them to completely stop what they're doing to add this in. It's not one guy working on it, it's a team. You also don't have an entire team programming one single thing at a time. They multitask.
2) This has been said as a "planned" feature for a fair amount of time. I've heard it since I bought the game the first day. I looked at the timeline, 2.0 notes, I didn't actually find a barbershop snippet (unless I missed it, in which I apologize). Unless you mean the free character re-customize we get when they release the new races. If that's what you're referring to, this is different.

I'm not particularly sure why this became a shouting match. Square's taken pride in their relations with their customers, and in hearing about what they want. And this is something we'd like to see in game. It doesn't inconvenience you in the slightest, if it's a feature you're not interested in .. don't use it.

Calling me ignorant just makes you moreso. I've been scripting and programming for roughly 8 years across different engines and languages. Like I mentioned in my past post, why would they go out of their way to implement a code now, on an outdated and very different engine from the one they are developing. They aren't gonna waste time implementing something on an engine that's gonna be scrapped. Hence why they are adding the delivery system and other strong features only on the new engine (2.0) and not this one.

Ah okay. It was in the forums. I was reading on their 2.0 announcement page.

And they are adding some stuff between now and their new engine. It will just have to get ported over. Same with everything else they will add from now till then, and have added previously.

I'm mostly just asking for this to get moved in priority. From 2.0+, to 1.2. It'd just have to get ported, instead of made with the new engine. Which, even still would probably still be just a copy/paste aside from the UI they'd have to make for it. Something to sorta sate us, until then? It's just been a year of staring at the same character now. Wouldn't mind a slight change.

If you think about it, it's a step back. Having to port over a code from one engine to another, it ain't easy. Yes they have a team, but they could be using all those resources into having it ready for the 2.0 engine. I wouldn't mind having a barber shop now don't get me wrong. However it's only natural for them to move forward with the code on the new engine, rather than rework the code - to then port.

It was stated we would have the option to recustomize our characters (even sex change and race change) at the launch of 2.0, so if anything I think we could expect an in game feature implement close after that.

Personaly I don't think a barber shop feature should be on any priority, do people realy need to change their charaters hairstyle every 5minutes?
I spent hours creating my character when I started and I'm very happy with how he looks and don't feel any reason to change anything as it is now (will see what options 2.0 brings however so then it will be a whole different story).

You're right. It would be a little extra work on their part having to port it over again. But I feel like, for the customers, the fairly small effort on their part would be a fairly big addition for us, while we wait for 2.0.

Not going to happen, certainly not a month before 1.20 drops. Just ridiculous to think they would do that. If they were to do this before going to the new servers, and that's a big if, it would be 1.21 at the earliest. I doubt they will be putting too much effort into non content related items on the old system, though.

Blah blah blah, I semi-read this. My original comment of being ignorant (for which you called me an arrogant troll) was directed at the OP who said... dun dun dun and I quote ... "It would be super easy on squares side".

I'm not saying having a barbershop is wrong, the idea is good. I'd like to have extra things like this. But it is simply ignorance (DEFINITION: Lack of knowledge or information) to think this is easy to implement and that they would put it into the next patch.

They aren't wrong for wanting a barbershop, but again... ignorant for thinking SE is going to drop whatever they have assigned to developers, add this new thing to the list, work out the details, add a UI, link up character data, and whatever else needs to be done in time for 1.20.

And... if you take all of the work into account, and still think they would do it.. FOR 1.20.... then you are stupid (DEFINTION: Lacking intelligence or common sense.)
