Well unfortunately it's about six months too late for that.
Also I don't really think they're ugly... all of them? Nah. Some of them? Yeah.

You are a bit late. We are on 3.15. 3.2 is due out next month.
I would not like for them to change the icons now, I am use to them and if they went and change them all then it would be a nightmare memorizing them all again for all the roles.
Which ones are you considering to be ugly?

I'm looking at my monk skills right now.
I don't see many to be particularly ugly.
Could always reassign the ones you don't like using macro icons, but from what I've hear about macro delays (not my words, I don't use them, for all I know it could just have to do with multi skill macros, Nooo clue) that might not be the smartest idea.

It's worked wonders for me, it's great.
I don't think they are ugly from a design sense... But they are all very low resolution and could stand to updated to look sharper. Some of them you can barely tell what it's an actual picture of.
Maybe its because I never look at my hotbars when playing that I know where my skills are, But I've never thought that a icon was ugly.
Although tbh I wouldn't mind if a skill icon was ugly because it doesn't really effect anything. Though thats just my opinion.
I just want my titan and garuda egi icons to actually be titan and garuda, and not emerald and topaz carbuncle
if they are gonna update anything it should be the cutscene on the start screen lol since the way the story has gone they are using a certian person as us but hes in the story as somethin else :P
Would I be annoyed at all if come 3.2 patch notes they say they are changing skill icons? No.
Do I feel like skill icons should get changed instead of spending time on other stuff? No.
Again just my opinion. If they changed them, great, but it would be something i'd look at once then never again.

I think a few can be kind of misleading.
Being better at hinting what the skill does would be nice.
Some of them could do with an update, especially Scholar, attacks like Bio and Bane etc. Could do with being given a makeover, just the icons. So they look more unique compared to the Summoner.
They could definitely do something to differentiate between skills. Ninja skill icons had to be redesigned a few months after they launched, because they were all the same color. And while most classes get a mixture of colors, most of the skills in the game are either a picture of a little man, or a shape resembling the class weapon. At least classes like warrior and monk have icons of little men facing different directions, but my astrologian toolbar is just a mess of blue and purple balls.
I don't think "ugly icons" is a good enough reason to change them. There are some I'd like changed, but only because some icons look a lot like others due to color scheme and in the heat of battle I sometimes confuse actions. Specifically, on WHM I often confuse Assize and Asylum icons as well as Raise and Holy icons. Don't necessarily want a complete redesign of the icons, but a color palette swap wouldn't be a bad idea.
The icons work as intended really.
Personally, I think that all or most of the icons are pretty horrible. I have a hard time discerning what they are trying to depict normally, and the resolution on them is pretty poor - which becomes more apparent as you get a higher res monitor and increase the UI size.
That said, this seems like a pretty minor thing, and I think there are a great many other things that should take higher priority.
I have been playing Warrior since 2.0 Launch, and i'll admit I use a very small hot bar when playing on PS4(more muscle memory than actually looking at skills), but after 2 1/2 years I still don't really know what's going on in the SP and SE icon.
I kind of wish there would be some distinction to the icons besides color. I mean look at DRG. How many ways can you draw "figure in the air with a stick"? I bet that was literally a contest at SE icon design department.
We could really see some changes to Medica icons, that depict one handed canes and also Dragoon skill that have an equipment icon for a skill (I'm.looking at you, Leg Sweep)
