BLM Surecast

so dunno if this has been brought up, but shouldn't BLM have a trait for surecast that makes its so they can run and cast at the same time?

Surecast was made simply to avoid interruption (like mechanics). If you can run and cast at the same time it would mean there was no cast time, making it impossible to interrupt in the first place outside of stunning/silencing before hand.

No. This wouldn't make sense at all. There is no "channel while moving" in this game. If you can move then there is no cast time. That's what SwiftCast is for. SureCast is so you can take that fireball and still get your fireball off, without having to move.

Only time to pop sure cast is after a dungeons first pull uses up your quelling strikes and the tank can't keep all hate from your aoe spam on the next set. If you see aggroe meter turning yellow during fire 2s then pop your manawalls and flare to a surecast transposed blizzard 1.

The only worthwhile buff I'd like to surecast is guaranteeing that fire 4 or blizzard 4 go off if astral/umbral or enochian drop.

i think surecast i way more usefull for healer classes than the blm. i use it all the time for precast an aoe heal for raidbusters...

Surecast only insures no interruption from flat damage. If an enemy moves out of your line of sight or does an attack that causes say paralysis or induces knockback you get interrupted.

Unsurecast indeed. Healers get much better use of this skill then any BLM will.

This is important to note.

Surecast doesn't work on most unavoidable mechanics. This is because those mechanics are not coded to cause an interruption. Surecast is a "The thing is directly hitting me" spell and that's why its worthless.

The mechanics it lets you cast through involve you not moving out of them or taking a boss punch to the face. The former is what you use swiftcast for, the latter means something else is severely wrong.

Outside of PvP (And even within it, given they give you -10 second surecast- as a pvp ability), Surecast is in that margin of usefulness where it may as well be useless, much like Sleep (outside pvp) and Freeze (...in general?)

Surecast and other Black Mage abilities need another pass at them because they do nothing for you 99% of the time. This is well beyond an acceptable range for 'niche' abilities, much like Dismantle and Rend Mind for Machinist or Repose for White Mage.

Let's see.
Apocatastasis - Amazing utility spell.
Manawall - Useful when taking physical damage.
Manaward - Useful when taking magical damage.
These three ^ are super good skills and very useful regularly.

Surecast - Lets me eat a big AoE and not stop casting.
Scathe - Worthless, especially at 60. I'd rather Manaward+Surecast an AoE than Scathe my way out of it.
Lethargy - Worthless.
Thunder II - Worthless.
Blizzard II - Worthless. Except maybe in pvp?
Sleep - Useful in pvp I guess?

Yeah. BLM has a bunch of useless skills, but Surecast is absolutely not one of them. It's not Lethargy, T2, or B2, all of which don't even deserve a space on my hotbars. Surecast is at least there, because I sometimes actually use it.

Surecast doesn't even help with the eating a big AoE. You can eat Alexander AoE's to the face while casting F4 and it will not stop casting. I even got hit with a prey and it didn't interrupt my casting.
There's literally never a time where surecast will keep you casting when you would otherwise not be casting unless you have 2-3 mobs attacking you at once. And if that's the case you're probably dead anyway because your tank is dead.

Scathe is not worthless. I always use Scathe to pick up the adds in Alex and even in the Pharos hard for the slimes to ensure the add sticks to me and I can draw it to the steam/laser. Or to kill off an enemy with about no HP left.

Lethargy can be used in A3S in the add phase and for the hand in the last phase.

A1N you can just time a fire2 to pick up both. A1S it's still better to just hardcast something at them because it's far more damage for the GCD, and if someone else is hitting your add, they're doing it wrong. (It's also fairly easy to have some sort of instant cast fire3 or even thundercloud ready for them.)

The same kind of applies to Pharos, not that add control is a problem in that one.

And any AoE Surecast lets you stand in, the shield spells do the same for you without taking the full brunt of the damage. The train of thought is:
Can I shrug it off with the shield? Shield will prevent the interruption.
Will it hurt even with the shield? Shouldn't !@#^ing stand in it.
Is it going to hurt without a shield? Shouldn't !#%@ing stand in it.

I've been interrupted by aoes before, so I always surecast through them now when I'm gonna stand in it. Meteorain in Thordan likes to interrupt sometimes, for example, as do some of the aoes dropped by Void Ark trash.

At level 16 you get Enhanced Surecast, which gives you a 15% that Surecast will have no recast time (btw it has about a half sec recast time). I might be really salty about this even existing in game.
