Shared house doesn't count for Auto-demolition.... FOR REAL SE?!

This is stupid... Literally stupid.

I was away for about month or so because of Family and Christmas but I have 2 friends that are very active that went to my house every other day to check my house.

Then I received an email on my tablet saying:
FINAL FANTASY XIV Housing Automatic Demolition Notice (10-day Notice)

For real?!

So I had to go to my old parents machine, install the game, lucky I always bring my Token but fuck... the trouble i had to make the game work on old machine....

Why you do this to your subscribers?
Can't you just make it so! If I'm paying please leave the house alone. I'm pissed realhy... fuck.

Make a house per account, demolish houses that are dead completely as in, no subs for 1 month and half or something... realhy... I always payed even when I don't play for 1 month because of stuff... but now this is fuckin stupidity. :/

It said right in the patch notes when this was implemented that only the house owner can refresh a personal home.

Saying it was there doesn't help and doesn't solve the issue.
At first i might have read and saw it yeah should be ok.. might not happen... but did happen. It just shows how bad this have been handled especially for players that are subscribed every month. Before there was probably 1 or 2 months that I couldn't play but I payed it anyway.

Why should I be punished because a few people that want housing and some of them are people that subscribe with months skip.. why should I get punished?

Now I was able to do something about it... but what about next time?
What about if I go to hospital for something and then come back and my house is demolished..
Its fuckin stupid.

Devs should start reading the forums for issues that might conflict real life scenarios, instead of checking forum post about people asking for Flying Fenrir Mount.
Before ADDING this new system of demolish there should have been better though of what to do. We probably will be stuck with this system until 3.0...

The worst part of demolish is all the items I have inside rather than losing the house.

If you're in hospital/unwell for 45 days straight and not able to log onto an online game then I think your issues are far, far greater then a house being demolished.

At the end of the day housing reclamation is a good thing that was sorely needed - and here's the kicker: It was a hotly requested feature on the forums. So I guess all that time the Devs spend not reading the forums are spent....reading the forums?

I guess you missed the part where we're getting new wards in 3.3 and then apartments and Ishgard housing after that.

The housing reclamation was only the first step of their plan to alleviate the housing issues.

Yeah but until 3.3 will be half a year.
Stuff happen on that time, many things.

I know its the first step but there was other ways to do this.

This is not the best way to alleviate, because people can still buy more than one house per account.
The first step should have been to limit the houses per account.

I agree with you on the houses per account limit. I wanted to smack some people when I saw the PF's up reselling the few plots that did open up. Dunno, I think the reclamation was definitely needed though. Too many houses have been sitting unused for ages.

But it doesn't work for those kind a people. When I play I go to my house and stuff. But there is people with 5 houses and they don't even go there and the reason they have that is because they have money and time. So this system doesn't bother them because they get email and they just teleport there. In other cases people with life not on 24/7 this system is stupid and disadvantageous...

What has been hotly requested is a fix to the severe lack of housing in this game. Housing reclamation has not provided that fix. It is, at best, a band-aid on a gaping wound.

It's horrible even for people who want to go for a long vacation. Presuming the demographic of the game is 18+, most people have the access to vacation and may face situations of prolonged inactivity.

I'd understand if it was 45 days of no subscription money as you no longer pay for their services but 45 days activity doesn't make sense especially when you still pay for the game.

OP you were able to keep the house, am I right? then the system worked as intended, you were an inactive player for 35 days, and SE sent you a warning so you could kept it, it is a pain if you are away? yes, but you had 10 days to figure something out.

Reclamation was really needed, and 45 days is a good time to decide if you want to keep a house or not, tenants will not be able ever to reset the timer, as personal housing is a luxury for players, but a necessity for FCs,and the more houses are in the market, the better.

FFXIV can run in almost any laptop, I use one when I need to go out of town ,and 15-20 frames per second is enough to enter your house, chat, do gathering, crafting and even your dailies.

You have the right of it. At the end of the day, you fixed the problem, and the reclamation system was designed with the intent on helping the housing market. Despite the number of scalpings of property over christmas and the following days, it has done its job, by freeing up plots on servers that needed them, ours especially. At the end of the day, you did what you needed to keep your house, and in my eyes the system works.

Yea pretty sure SE can see logins but I think it more about if a person actually cares to visit their house. There have been people that admitted before this reclaim system came into play they bought a house and never visited it. The system designed to get players more active with houses or least visit it once in awhile (that being least once every 45 days). Otherwise it will be reclaimed and another person can use/visit it and if they don't same thing will happen to them.

I had my token with me! But if I didn't had it. My house would have been done for... See the problem?

When I go to work I go to work I don't have time to play or login.
And when I'm in vacations with family I don't bring anything because I tend to stay with my family and not ingame.

It's doing it purpose but its not fixing what is intended to be fixed. FIRST STEP SHOULD HAVE BEEN! and simply limit 1 house per account.

SE isn't dumb, they can see log ins, and I'm sure can easily see the number of people who are subbed vs un-subbed when they came up with this rule.

I fix the problem by wasting a day installing the game on a computer that isn't mine, further more is that I had my token if I didn't I would have lost my token...

The thing is when I play I visit my house... When I play I play more than 8 hours a day. But when I work I can't play! I can't log and sometimes I'm out for more than 45 days....

People are not still getting this:

There is game life and real life.

I'm paying for a service I should have that service saved.
Think it like a website. You buy a website if you keep paying it it stays there if not it gets demolished! THIS is what should be done with housing.

If I have a Life that makes me take a inactivity of 45 days and if I want to keep my stuff when I come back to play! there should be away to do it.

This system will work for 3 or 4 houses max per server. Maybe! While if they limited the house per account there would be at least 50% of the houses free. I know at least 3 people that have 6 houses in excalibur, excluding the FC mansion.

This is the issue! This is what should be fixed. This should have been the first step... Now I will have to BREAK the TERMS AND CONDITIONS! If I want my house to survive.

So yeah Devs, Square Enix, tell me what would be the solution?

Actually! It would be even better if you could pay the house like we pay the extra retainers it would just get rid of all this fuckin nonsense and you would have money to add more wards and whatever.

Perhaps a shared house should default to the first person the owner shared with, instead of being auto-demolished after 45 days. While I'm sure there are downsides to this system, there are upsides too like encouraging house sharing.

People using their job as a reason why they can't log on in the 45 day period, so I assume they are traveling which I pretty sure they stop at some time and not working/traveling 24/7. They can't bring a laptop with them which today world there plenty of places the provide free internet access points. Yes I have heard about how hotel internet can be crappy but could least log on long enough enter house and log back out. Unless you on like a submarine in middle of the ocean or something, which my brother actually played with someone in that situation and then that person just made arrangements and didn't seemed to be bothered by timers like this.

I think it would be really nice if shared housing allowed for all tenants to count towards its activity.

Is that not how it works with Free Company Housing?

My friends and I bought a personal house together and it is under my name. I'm very active, but you never know when life happens. They paid into the house just like me (though I was the one camping the plot) and I think they should count towards its upkeep as well since they are registered as owners as well. They have all the same permissions as me.

It's not just my house--it's theirs too. Why do only I count? It has their furniture, their gil went into it, and they use it too. Their use should count.

Really?!?! Reclamation was asked for because there were several abandoned houses, and SE didn't build enough wards for the player base. There were no angry mobs demanding that players should lose their homes if they don't enter them every 45 days. It's just a racket by SE to force homeowners to never let their subscriptions lapse.

If this is so great why don't they apply the same rule to FC homes? If the FC leader doesn't enter the FC house in 45 days it should be demolished and the lot put up for sale. There are lots of FCs looking for houses and this would solve that problem.

In the dreaded "real world", if the governing body of some area decides that "hey, this guy has abandoned his house" or "he's so far overdue on his taxes and isn't responding to our notices, let's seize his property", they won't halt the process just because there are people labeled "tenants" occupying said property. Their biggest concern is maximum utilization of available resources and the all-mighty bottom line of being in the black instead of red. Real-world tenants have no legal "two cents" to throw into the argument, and that's how SE is handling this.

While I don't own a personal house there is a bit of an issue with that example. Yes if a person refuses to pay taxes, house payments, etc a home can be taken and having your buddy stop by is not going to halt the process. However a person paying their mortgage and taxes could spend two years abroad and would come back to a house that is still their own so long as they were maintaining their financial obligations. In the current situation with FFXIV, I could get deployed or need to travel for three months and even though I am willingly paying my 'mortgage' (my subscription) that entire time, my home will still be destroyed. I agree there were homes that needed to be reclaimed but I also agree it doesn't seem right that its based solely on you stepping foot in the home rather than on subscription status. I really feel it should have been something like, if you are unsubscribed from the game for more than 30 days, the timer of 45 days kicks in for you to resubscribe and go visit your house.

Likely I may have been in the same boat as other personal house owners if an emergency arose but a friend and I bought ours together as an FC house pre-release of personal housing. Though only two of us are active, if we had to take a break we could get a few people to check on it for us to keep it from being demolished. I don't see why those who share personal housing should not be allowed the same convenience. Especially if (I don't know wholly how house sharing works) those who share the house can build personal rooms within it and therefore share in the investment and the loss of that investment that will come when it is destroyed.

In real world i have 2 vacations properties. I pay the maintenance, the house tax, the community tax and whatever needs to be payed. And I visit it for about 1 month and a half each year because is when i'm on vacation. Nobody went to get my house. Its not abandoned its just not being used for its purpose. But Listen! I'm paying it its is as I would be there living cause you and other people don't need to know if I'm actually sleeping.

Now on FFXIV is not a real life scenario or close to it. I pay for the sub. I go on vacations and i still have to deal with this crap system. My sub should be paying that tax. So your point here is invalid.

Actually there are several "taxes" we all pay in real cash: our monthly sub fee, additional retainers because SE purposefully set our inventory space so low, and items they sell on the mog station.

SE makes enough money off of this game to afford to buy the infrastructure needed to have more wards, they simply choose not to. You should direct your anger at them, because they are not providing the in game resources that you are paying for.

Yes I think the housing system is screwed up and SE needs to fix it, but people need to stop using that that they pay a sub well so does everyone else so people need to come up with better reason why the 45 days shouldn't exist and the retainer thing that a whole different issue that could take up a thread on it own.

I'll chime in on this topic since I've been and am on both sides of the fence.

In an ideal scenario, there would be enough housing for everyone, and once you bought your property you'd never lose it. That is how it should be, 'ideal'.

But the reality of the matter is houses are a finite resource and having Joe Schmoe who hasn't subbed for 5 + months occupy land (Land that many MANY others would not only utilize better, but appreciate more.) based solely on the fact he purchased it once upon a time ago just wont cut it.

This is not to say I am in favor of the 45 day timer but I can see why they did it and why it is a necessity in the present situation of housing wards.

The fact is there's too few housing plots available for even one to be wasted on a no-longer subscriber and losing active subscribers due to this lack of housing is a REAL thing. If they can't lure you back over your house, you're not coming back. If they cant keep you here with your house, then you're probably already on your way out the door.

As a once house-less person, I can only thank the STARS I vultured someone else's LONG VACANT lot. I did my research on this guy. It was his private FC for his characters. 8 members, and all named after Beyoncé. (....I have no words.)

This particular chap hadn't logged in since pre Ramuh. He wasn't here, he wasn't using his Free Company house, he was absent and that resource he was using was being wasted.

In this game where the developers have CLEARLY stated the servers are in no way capable of handling excess inventory, houses, fun...we cannot be wasting what little we have on those who have moved on.

Truthfully if you're done with this game, any game...you're done. No amount of pixels will keep you there. If you doubt that, just look at World of Warcraft. They still have players, but even the MOST long term players of WOW eventually leave.

Maybe you got ill, or married, or deployed, went to college, or had a child. Perhaps you moved to another country, got a newer better job, moved up in your present job and the hours are more demanding of your time. Some things in life call for playtime to end, even for us Gamers.

Those guys in WoW spend 8+ YEARS building their characters, grinding their reputations, gear, getting mounts and pets a-plenty. But you know what? When your time as a gamer in a game ends? None of that matters anymore. (excepting perhaps on those who Ebay their accounts. Then that stuff can matter towards an acount's $ 'value'. Shame on you!)

When the game is no longer fun or when life calls...pixels no longer matter.

I bought my house as an FC house, to help keep ownership on it because I do tend to be ill frequently, I recognized my illness may actually cost my house and because of that I made reasonable accommodation for myself to avoid that situation. ANYONE can level an FC. I made it to rank 6 in about 2 days.

No, I'm not happy about the 45 day thing, but yes it is a necessity and yes I utilized it for my own house/happiness.

Short of another bout of terrible illness though, I wont be 'taking a break'. I'll be using my house every day, rain or shine, content or lull, until which time I'm done with the game.

Have to disagree. Reclamation is a necessity, yes, but 45 days isn't. 90 days would have gotten the job done as well in opening up houses from people who have moved on, and would have had less effect on those who are still planning to return.

I have my Mog House in FFXI and its going to stay there nothing happening to it.

Like I said before. First should have been the 1 per account rather than 45 days thing. With the 45 days things there is a lot of people in game with no life and full cap money on all retainers and shit. That just go and buy houses and then they just need to go there every so often because no lifers have no life except game.

I'm fairly certain that if you had go to the hospital to address a health issue. Your immediate concern, upon return, should not be your fantasy house being demolished.

All levity aside, I understand your gripe. I would probably feel pissed, the same as you, if I had to install/reinstall this game in the middle of my vacation just to keep a virtual house. Mind you, I would still do it grumbling all the while.

Right or wrong, SE did clearly communicate their policies around auto-demolition. Since the house is that important to you, it was on you, not SE, to plan for it accordingly.

That old quote existed when the majority of people bought their houses. To say it's not on SE is quite simply wrong. Yeah, we have to live with the change. But it was their decision to change it, and their decision to make such a short time period that doesn't even match up with a patch cycle. That's on them.

I guess you missed the part where we're getting new wards in 3.3 and then apartments and Ishgard housing after that.

The housing reclamation was only the first step of their plan to alleviate the housing issues.

Let me clarify, the number of days attached to reclamation is irrelevant to me. The thing I'm saying is necessity is reclamation as a whole. It could be 45 days, 10 days or 200 days. Reclamation is a necessity for housing is at present, the number of days they slap on before doing so doesn't matter much to me.

Like I said before. First should have been the 1 per account rather than 45 days thing. With the 45 days things there is a lot of people in game with no life and full cap money on all retainers and shit. As for your FFXI house (which is an utterly different game, but I'll amuse you) I played FFXI too. It was one mog house per character. Not per account, so using FFXI to argue your point that every account should only have one house is rather silly considering your main point for it is a game which provided every character on every account a house.

Every character had a house, not every account. I'm an altaholic, I played FFXI and had cap characters each with their own unique mog-houses. FFXI was built on an entirely different housing platform than FFXIV. It's like comparing an apple to an orange. YES they're both fruit, but they're decidedly different.

No matter how much you shout at the apple to become an orange, when you cut it open it's still going to be an apple. Rather than fondle all these fruits, how about we stay on topic to the game at hand.

We've got an apple here, and we have to work with that.
