I'm fine with it, its part of life for mmos to need to have work done on em. I personally like playing without lag and issues.
Long live maintenance!
For all of our S Rank resets and sleep-deprived needs! The life of a Relic Hunter is not for the faint of heart.
Maintenances are a part of MMO-life. Don't like it, then I suggest never playing an online multiplayer game ever.
Oh wondered when this thread was going to pop up, all though I did think it would be more about it being on christmas eve then it just being a run of the mill maintenance rant though. Well got 1/2 right.
sure its annoying but guess whats far more annoying?
watching broken things not get fixed for months on end or never at all. im sure most of us have played games in the past that had fairly important things stay broken for waaaay to long before getting fixed
go play something else while the game is down for a few hours, its nice to have a change of pace anyway
Its Christmas Eve. Go spend time with friends and family.
Easy for you to say...
/playtime 247 days, 13 hours, 6 minutes
Might as well tell me to go out for a night of drinking with Santa and his elves.
But yeah, I suspect this maintenance will be for beast tribe quests that are part of the current relic grind. Yoshida said something about a hotfix for it. I've waited over 5 hours for fates this week, so a 3 hour downtime that prevents me from doing that again this week is actually a net gain of 2 hours.
It is rather odd to see maintenance on christmas...but just rest up so you can spend time with your family or friends tomorrow.
It doesn't happen too often.
I don't feed the maintenance up on anything, it's already too fat.
Go to sleep so Santa can come.
I have seen them leave things in game for years, so long people thought it was a feature and not a bug. A couple of those things Sony actually decided not to fix, due to the sheer amount of rebalancing that fixing it would have entailed. I'm talking about Everquest.
And at least late night is a good time to patch. It could be worse, they could try patching at 7 pm eastern, 4 pacific.
Sleep, be glad for maintenance so the game does work without endlessly constant bugs and glitches and errors that make other games unplayable. ><
Let's see if we can turn this thread into a 'thisthreadagain.jpg' thread. :3

...Are people seriously trying to defend maintenance on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day? No other company would have the gall to do this unless the servers were actually busted (which means the game wouldn't be working anyway).
I frequently 'Feed up' with maintenance too. It makes my tummy full on those long lonely nights.
My tummy was quite empty tonight too. I'm glad we were fed for the holiday so I can sleep well and have sugarplums dance in my head.
Everybody knows this an undercover housing thread.
The only gripe I have with maintenance is their announcements. Really wish the lodestone and launcher notices would post the GMT times like the ones in the Forums do. A handful of us miscalculated again tonight by one hour and servers went down in the middle of a dungeon.
DOH!
I kinda agree with the OP, but only because it's Christmas and this is my excuse to ignore my family. Now I have to go be social with them. WTF.
Conando, I hate to shatter your delicate sensibilities, but;
1: Maintenance is intentionally planned for when it inconveniences the least amount of people possible, and,
2: Nowhere in the WORLD will you find a workplace that has major servers that ISN'T manned 24/7/365.
Technicians who are there anyway are doing maintenance at the time that the least amount of impact is felt. Get over yourself lol.
Shhhhh.... if you don't go to sleep, Santa won't come. He is on the rooftop of the data center, of course they have to shut off the servers and turn off all the lights. How else will they get their presents?
People are so mean. Data center employees need presents too.
And what way is that shattering any delicate sensibilities? All you did was state the obvious about how IT works, not any example of companies that actually do choose to do maintenance on major holidays. You could have, you know, brought up how Microsoft and Sony did it a few times at least but, that doesn't really work since the servers were already crashed by an influx of activity (so they weren't up anyway). Aside from that, this isn't server maintenance it's GAME maintenance. You do realize they have a different indication known as hardware maintenance when they're actually working out those kinds of kinks, right? What are they even fixing in the game this time? What'd they screw up again?
Here's the process of server maintenance (from someone who does it for a living)
1: Shut servers down IAW procedures.
2: Replace any identified components that have failed or are damaged.
3: Complete any scheduled maintenance that requires the servers to be off.
4: Re-energize servers IAW procedures.
5: Do maintenance that requires servers to be on, but on standby
6: While 5 is happening, script changes and software updates are loaded and updated
7: Servers get reinitialized so changes take effect, maintenance is complete.
I'm just amazed that they manage to knock out the processes so fast. Every time my work has to do even minor shit the servers are down for several hours, but then again our software ITs suck a big one. I'm a hardware guy myself.
These maintenances helps me with getting a breather. Otherwise, I'd be sad or annoyed that I'm online all day and not making progress. Gives me a bit of time to meddle with my backlog. Bought a ton of PS4 games from the weekly PS Store sales that I can meddle with for the next few hours.
Yo I be super tipsy and I am here to complain because its freaking christmas i am off for once and i wanna freaking game with other no life pals because my family is on this game not all nerds got the chance to have or being with a family so stop being anti nerd and this maintenance is nothing but a full horse of junk
It wasn't bad for wow since its u.s. based. So wow tend to pick off peak times. For a jpn mmo its something we have to live with. They try to do maintenance before jpn prime time.
5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE
From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.
Honestly, I just spent 12 hours with my friends and family. I came home, hoping to at least squeeze in my daily hunts/beast tribes before reset and then head off to bed.
Nope. Maintenance.
So much for getting any items today for my relic.
[EDIT] Not saying like "omg squeenix how culd u do dis 2 me" or whatever. It's just mildly frustrating that maintenance on Christmas Eve/Day is more inconvenient than other days because of the fact that it's such a huge holiday, especially in North America. For myself, and many others, this late evening/early morning is the only time we get to ourselves for these two days.
I don't mind that there's maintenance, I mean it's the oil that keeps the gears turning.
The only thing that bothers me is when I look at the hotfix notes after 5-6 hours of maintenence and the only thing I see is some stupidly rare glitch that only happens under very specific circumstances (ruffles in this skirt don't look right when it's raining or w/e).
They don't tell you what the glitch could have possibly led to, because too much information about shortcomings lead to people trying to exploit similarly accepted mechanics for benefit.
I'm completely fine with this maintenance since I'm only on my computer for a short break from the crazy family. However, as some random old guy pointed out to me, not everyone is lucky enough to have family to be with for the holidays. So I can understand why some people want to play now. Posting "go hang out with family you loser" is a bit insensitive.
