So Astro secondary stay is......

So I was doing the anima quest and notice that crit is on the weapon. How important is crit to an astro. Just wondering should I keep the eso weapon or go for relic at it has crit

Healer secondary stats are really based on your play style (other than SCH who usually favors Crit just due to how Adlo works and such).

Some people like Spell Speed, some like Det, some like Crit.

It really doesn't make a HUGE difference. Excessive Crit can lead to over heals which pulls aggro.

Excessive Spell speed may make typical healing habits make you run out of MP.

Though, you can't have excessive Det lol

Piety is only really needed up to a point. Though recently it's been basically impossible to avoid Piety on your gear anyway so yeah lol.

TL;DR: do what you want, just go with highest iLvl

Does crit work the same for astro as Sch in nocturnal

No. You don't get the bonus 2x.

All Crit does is increase your heal (which does increase the shielding, but no added bonus or anything)

As AST, I recommend having multiple gear sets for both sects. Diurnal increases your attack speed, allowing you to drop some spell speed in favor of other stats, and Nocturnal increases healing potency, allowing you to drop some determination to favor more spell speed. I like Critical Hit for both sects because it helps make up for our lack of AoE healing potency. Piety, just like accuracy, is needed until you don't need it anymore; after you reach a comfortable MP pool, you can stop adding piety to your gear.

This is hardly true. Your cast will finish once it reaches a certain threshold. If you move at exactly 50% (or halfway) as being advertised here, it'll get canceled regardless of the amount of spell speed you have. Exception would be when your cast time would go below 0.50s. But no amount of spell speed will get you to that point

The entire astrologian kit benefits from Determination and/or Critical Hit rate. Be it ever so slightly with current patch, it's something to consider for future patches when our ilvl bloats up. Spell speed, on the other hand, only has a direct effect on over time effects. It doesn't affect the amount of initial healing being done and the increased effect on HoTs/DoTs is roughly the same as the effect gained from Determination/Critical hit rate. Spell speed has no direct effect on Essential Dignity or Synastry either. In other words: A greater portion of the astrologian kit has no use for spell speed.

The usual argument would be "But I can cast faster!". Great, so what's the point of that? Each encounter only has a set amount of incoming damage. While in theory you can cast more spells within the same time frame. What would be point be? Let's use some exaggerated numbers here and you can squeeze in 10% more spells in a single encounter. If you can finish the encounter casting 100 Benefic (II), what would you need the 10 extra Benefic (II) for? If you'd have enough crit/det for the same 10% value, you're getting more value for each MP you're spending as opposed to spell speed. There's a lot more involved when you'd include damage spells as a healer. But the no-healer-dps-cultists will riot if I'd bring this up (not like spell speed would be more beneficial either way)

Regardless of how valuable crit is for Astrologian in either sect, the more important stat would be the piety on it. A comparable weapon with Determination (instead of crit) would be the Gordian Astrometer.

I agree with you 150%. This is why I finished my Awoken AST weapon today, even though I already had the Eso version.

The spell speed loss is completely unnoticeable, and the Awoken gives you almost 40 extra Piety points as well.

Spell Speed also affects the strength of your DOTs and HOTs, something to keep in mind.

Thanks I already have the upgraded eso for Astro and Whm was wondering if it was a big diff saw that astro had crit and figured it was like Sch don't that more it heals the bigger the shield. But was a Lol worried on diurnal sec as well. Thanks for the explanation

The rate is very low and the det/crit make up for it.

HoTs don't have a lot of potency: 140 Potency on Aspected Benefic in Diurnal Sect. If we were to translate the 200 spell speed increase into potencies: 2-3% of 140 potency is a mere 2.8-4.2 potency increase for every tick. Here's another post on bluegartr:

200 critical hit rate, for easier comparison with spell speed, is an increase of 4.55% crit chance. Which in turn can be translated into an average healing increase of 2.27%. Roughly the same as spell speed.

Now if we assume Determination has a comparable value, spell speed isn't worth taking at all.
For one: Spell Speed would mainly benefit HoTs. It decreases your GCD by a tiny bit, but does not directly strengthen any spells nor does it help your MP management
Secondly: Unlike spell speed, determination and critical hit rate affects nearly your entire kit. Be it healing spells, healing abilities or damage spells. Increased average healing with all your spells can also be translated into hp recovery for every MP spend.
Lastly: While spell speed does not hold any obvious or more direct merits, secondary stats hardly have any effect right now. Secondary stats don't matter much with current gear. But it's something to consider for later patches.

tldr; stats have comparable increases. Crit/Det still more valuable as it affects entire kits (in both sects for astrologian), unlike spell speed.

IMHO crit seems to be the main secondary stat for Astro since it lacks the clutch healing of the other healing classes. It can lead to overhealing but ive never had a crit Benefic II or ED steal agro unless the tank is seriously bad and in that situation a normal Benefic II would steal agro anyways.

The last stat either goes to piety/det. SS in my experience is absolute garbage on astro.
