Suggestion: Monstrosity

A suggestion for future content: "FFXI's Monstrosity content."

If someone havent got a clue what im referriing to go here & read.
(there's also a few monstrosity videos on youtube you can look up)

I really enjoy turning into a FFXI monster and go out battle other monsters in vana'diel.
It also gave a diffrent perspective on the game and its inhabitants to some extent. :o

Those who have tried FFXI monstrosity, what do you think?

Well we can already play as cats, midgets, giants and lizards.

Make it Monster PvP where players can queue into a match and then select from a list of monsters that serve different roles/purposes (ex: behemoth=tank) with their own ability sets and then fight against other teams of player monsters and I'm sold.

Wasn't there a class, in one of the FF games, that allowed the character to change into the shape of monsters? That would be a fun class to have in the game.

Not exactly. The classic Final Fantasy class, Blue Mage, allowed you to learn monster abilities by having them be used on a member of the party and then use them as spells or special abilities. They didn't really turn into the monsters.

A bit of a leap of logic equating the two.

LoV is a RTS-lite where you control a team of minions with minimal abilities and functionality and fight against another single player controlling a team of minions.

What I described is more akin to something like the Legends PvP in DCUO or one of the many other online arena based PvP games where you can select prepackaged combatants with predetermined abilities, strengths and weaknesses to fight as, then wrapped up in a FF monsters theme. Essentially the monster you choose to be becomes your class/job and you fight as you would normally in PvP against other players that have become monsters.

I simply said it sounded similar. I'm all for more diversity in the game, so if they can add something like this that players will actually want to run, then I'm all for it.

I believe he's talking about the Morpher job from Final Fantasy Tactic: Advanced. You can capture monsters as the Hunter job, then raise them but also obtain a monster soul. Then equip that soul as the Morpher job and you can transform into that monster and use its abilities in battle.

I could see leveling your monster just like it works in FFXI, then maybe have some PvP / tournament like"Touchandfeel" suggested above.
And wouldnt it be cool to go primal fights / raids as a monster ?

Ofc, if they did this for FFXIV, it shouldnt be less diffrent or changed too much or people woul loose interest.
Instead make it more or better than FFXI's version, maybe even more diverse / versatile.

Cool things about monstrosity in FFXI:

* You could name your monster.
* You could level it & select skills.
* Many monsters to unlock & select.
* Battle wasnt bound to a few pre-determined areas.

There could be alot of new cool content with this, if SE decided to do it.
And hopefully do :D

Imagine that you could play as the NPCs :O the same NPCs that players have to kill for their quests... oh boy, that would be so hilarious!

Just adding my two cents to this, but here's a few things I'd like to see if this system were to be added:
Perhaps as you level-up your monster, you can 'unlock' new 'skins' for it or something. Like, for example, leveling up as a Dodo eventually unlocks Gastornis-colored plumage. Another funny thing would be if you could equip special accessories. I'm thinking something like in FFXIII-2, where you could, for example, get a Carbuncle plush and mount it on a monster's head or back.

Another interesting option would be if they gave each monster its own unique "Limit Break". I'd personally prefer that it work more like the Adrenaline Rush mechanic, or otherwise be usable without stealing the option to use it from another monster in your party.

Finally, not only would I like to see Chocobos as an option in this system, but I'd like to see more than just the basic yellow 'bos. Perhaps each one had its own unique skills, or maybe they're all just alternate skins as I described above; I wouldn't really care, so long as I get to run around as a Red Chocobo, dropping space rocks on monsters' heads.

It'd be interesting to have such a feature, but more interesting if it was used to unlock lore/bestiary kinds of information.
For example, play as a Morbol to to unlock a Bestiary on Morbols that you can read at your leisure.

At best though, it'd be a fun minigame that served no real purpose. And we all know that the most vocal parts of the playerbase would call it Dead on Arrival if it wasn't awarding the best ilvl gear in the game.
