Ok folks, is that a screen shot of something actually in development, or a very nice looking painting?
Adobe experts?

Considering I know first hand that Chimera is present in the data, it looks like a touched up image, but it's very possible it's a screenshot of a test build since there's also screenshots present in the map redesign outlines.
A lot of that stuff is in dats, like you said Khim, some ofthe AF, even the levithan from the concept. This makes me think some of it will be out before 2, obviously jobs will, so rest likely will except ui/server/maps. 3D Models can come and be moved across like paper.
I Would Really love that to be the direction the game has in V2, much more Gritty and dark.. More in line with recent FF titles, less mmo like but that is where this could stand out!
Without the potential glowy sword, Squar buttons and overly busy UI anyway.
Hint : Go Look at FFXIII lol :p
I'm leaning on at least touched up though for it, if not wholly made up, The much lower detailed people in the not too far background on the right of it made me wonder the most..
But I'm sure we could get something that good looking with DX11 for the Good Pcs and a more current look for DX9/Ps3 :D
I like to know if the game look overall would become like that in the art work or that just a touch up to make it look like that. I would hate to lose how good the game looks i know the game maps are copy/paste but how they look is what make the game look nice.
Think that they will be using the new Luminous engine square enix just announced?
Also, there's a chocobo as a party member? Tamed monster? In the outline it said tamed monsters wouldn't be counted as party members.
Edit, could possibly just be showing a health bar there. The current setup doesn't show the current players info in the party frame however there are 8 people and 1 chocobo if you look at it that way.
That game screenshot is a photoshopped picture of what they vision 2.0 to look like and not actual in game screenshot.
it's a combination of internal high quality files photoshopped onto the background image. I doubt it's representative of the actual product.
It looks shopped... BUT considering that the new gfx engine and UI are still undergoing development, I'm okay with it.
I honestly think it's the actual gameplay from what they've been working on from behind the scenes. Like just a little part of the whole thing. It looks nice and I love the UI to be bright like that. It just looks great.
The game right now look better then that pic i'm sorry but it does look cartoonish i hope your wrong i wont play a game with that type of look it feel like a western MMO like aion or tera i love that FFXIV look new just add new maps and make the game look better and that it don't change it to look like a aion/tera/rift -.-
The models and posing are a screenshot.
The lighting and UI are all concept art.
I assume.
I sort of hope the UI is just a mock up. It looks like something that belongs in a sci-fi MMO, not Final Fantasy XIV. Sure, the UI would fit FFXIII, but the artwork and UI for FFXIV have always had a slightly retro look to them.
I don't know why we don't have "skins" for the UI... >.>
If that was implemented then everyone's boat would float.
It still follow the same rules set by WOW even if WoW did not make everything they have they made it main stream and that what people are following the king of MMO and i hope SE does not follow this just to get a few more subs.
And by cartoon i mean is like tera/rift/wow type of art.
You know, I've just noticed something. The art seems to imply the Garlean Empire uses a lot of iron and glass.
It gives me hope.
It actually reminds me of Unreal engine, but it is most likely a touch-up of what it may look like. I am sure that Luminous can look even better than that. If SE just announced Luminous (and I know its been in the works for a while now), then they are most likely going to use it for FFXIV as a sort of promo for both the game and it's engine.
