Usually been going as WAR, but finally decided to try monk out seriously. A lot of fun, took a few games to find my rhythm and learn that I can't use tank tricks to wade in and that I have to pick targets more carefully.
Any advice and good use of skill tips? I feel that there should be info somewhere on all the classes and advice.
Which players should I focus on? How far can I be expected to venture before pulling back? Who should I avoid most? All your advice will help.

Don't 1 on 1 a war, that's for sure (or tanks in general).
I find range dps easiest to kill. Black mages probably easiest. The problem is you are an easy target for the CC skills they have; knowing when to use fetter ward is key. You are probably consider an easy target as well, so during skirmishes try avoid rushing in 1st to avoid as many dots as possible.
When LBing always stun first (and preferably fetter ward). Keep in mind that most players must probably be at less than 80% hp to be a sure kill. So when LB is up avoid stunning target until you decide to lb. Else target can resist stun and get away.
When attacking I usually try to make Axe Kick affect as many as possible as a starter. Mantra + bloodbath could be activated beforehand to keep you alive, but since you yourself is considered an easy target (in many cases) you'll probably find yourself doing quick "hit and runs" in succession to avoid too much attention.
Always have twin snakes and greased lighting 3 active (no-brainer, losing gc3 is huge loss in damage). Use form shift when not able to hit anyone to keep that gc up.
Most attacks are positional based, which is a bitch in PvP.
Chasing people can be risky for monks, and probably requires many of your ranged cds to be successful. If you have to chase for more than 15 seconds you'll probably end up dead yourself.
1 on 1 vs other melee dps? Start with axe kick if not gc3 or your in a huge disadvantage. -

You can burst very hard on a Monk as well.
If you're already in GL3, go ahead and drop a Forbidden Chakra, Elixir Field, Howling Fist, Tornado Kick. If the target isn't already dead, Axe-Kick, Bootshinebootshinebootshinebootshinebootshine (Since they're likely already running away after you burst on them.).
Seriously, if you can't remember all of it, just remember Chakra BEFORE tornado Kick. That's enough to drop enough people as it is. -

Under perfect conditions:
Target has no def buffs + dragon kick. You have internal release + blood for blood + GC3 + meds + fists of fire + opo-opo.
Bootshine (behind) > Howling fist > elixir field > true strike (behind) > forbidden chakra > tornado kick > snap punch (flank) > axe kick > somersault > bootshinebootshinebootshine
In PvP doing something like this is pretty hard 'cause your visibly harassing a target, gaining enmity. Range dps can burst usually from a more safe location, a bit more obscure to the enemy.
@RedHerb: don't you mean somersault + bootshinebootshinebootfvsm. Axe kick does not grant perfect balance. No crits with that. -

Thank you all :) See I had taken tornado kick off my primary chotbar for pvp, shows how much I need the tips, and Ceve, that makes perfect sense, thank you.
I'll practice that burst rotation, though I hope it doesn't mess with my PVE, lol.
One more question for now, fist of fire or fist of wind? I have been using wind recently since my damage is enough to burst anyway and I can outrun fleeing opponents, is that a good or bad idea? -

Protect is useless in PvP considering defense. It's only used as a shield for other buffs against, for example, one ilm punch.

Oh I get that it sucks, I'm just saying that I use one Ilm because that's usually the least of the effects it strips. That's good value for a small potency loss.
And when it removes Aetherflow or raging strikes it's just delicious. -

Yeah, I'm doing well now, so one last question to wrap this up.
Where would you spend points? I have upgrade 1 and 3 on axe kick (skipped the 30 potency increase), all 3 on somersault, one on purify and one on weapon throw (shorter cooldown)
I'm at rank 31, so I get another next rank. Suggestions? -
