I heal because im a healer in real life. Not with magic (lol) but i do work in health care. Guess I like to stick with what i know.
I heal, because i like to have the control of the lives of my group
Depending of my mood they live or die 8D
And also because when we switch to HW pour static lost all healer
And I was the most competent one as secondary... So I lost my staff of destruction (BLM) to go for the sadistic side (heal)
And also because i did want to go AST !
I heal cause I like to kill people. :3
I like to try out all jobs the game has to offer, I enjoy healing because peoples lives literally depend on you.
WHM is my favourite Job in the whole game which is why I play it :p. It really pisses me off to see people slacking off as a healer too ><.
I prefer healing roles because I don't particularly enjoy jobs with fixed rotations :/ and it sorta makes me feel good inside knowing I'm keeping people on my team in good condition to keep doing the best DPS and tanking they can :)
Dps wouldn't be a good idea in a nursing home. Lmao.
I have had to eliminate the odd lady bug if that counts
I play healer because iv been a tank for 9 years on other games, and currently loving AST a lot , but i wont play dps due to players who whore parsers and degrade u if u make a mistake in ur rotation, but the main reason is my dps job i want does not exist in the game none of the current jobs appeal to me :(
I heal because my boyfriend mains a tank and when I started playing he told me, "White Mage and Paladin to together like bread and butter". So that's what we did, we became a really crappy sandwich.
I stuck with it because I like how flexible the roll is. I can be a healer, I can be a DPS, and in PvP I can be a tank.
...
Also my effects are fabulous.
When I heal, it's usually because I want to take a break from DPSing.
Only to find me spamming Aero 2+3, Holy and Assize ._.'
I guess I heal because I don't want to trust others with what I consider the most important job x)
Also, even in real life, I'm more of a support person, making sure everything goes smooth so others can go all out is my calling.
Healers (and especially AST) just translate that urge well into the ingame world :)
Me too.
"Meh I don't want to DPS for this run." End up in CS half the run anyway.
I like to heal too because I hold the whole party's life in my hands.......... make me mad? No heal for you. Trolling? Have fun laying on the ground?
Decided to tease me an hour ago? Pft well I guess don't ask me to heal your run for you if you want to live ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I heal because those dumb dps won't stop eating the floor candy. Mah deeps, mang. .___.
More seriously, I've always played DPS/DDs up until maybe 3 years ago, when I was in a guild that started raiding.. previously in MMOs, I hadn't been as much of a group person. Despite not actually liking people all too much, I have some odd compulsion to be "useful" to all.. so since we of course had tons of people playing DPS but were lacking in healers, I switched to maining a hybrid healer. >:| Somewhere along the line, I started duoing crazy stuff with a friend, and so when we moved to FFXIV, I decided to main scholar from the start.
Now I feel weird on a pure DPS class, though somehow I got into that slot in my static. I like being able to heal myself when I make dumb mistakes, and not rely on someone else to do it. It's nice that I have a lot of power in saving a failing fight/run, and I strive to push my DPS whenever possible. Plus, it feels good to speed up queues when going with friends~
Because it is fun. ^_^
Because I enjoy healing the stresses and forethought required to heal well. I enjoy supporting my friends as a healer and being a backbone in the party dynamic.
I heal because I suck at DPSing... lol
Actually, this is my first MMO and I'd like to start as SMN. Happens I wasn't good at all, so I switched to SCH. As I was better at healing because the fairy was there to help me, I learned how to play better and now, although I can do any job, I prefer healing.
I enjoy it. Especially when I can do so half asleep.
Because I like feeling like a god while playing with the life of my party mates.
As a healer, because I feel it's an important job, and having the power of life and death and the ability to save a situation through sheer skill is immensely satisfying.
As a scholar specifically, because I love class with pet and that the versatility of the job is really fun to play with.
And more specifically, this answer every question about the healer role : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DxS7eT_ky4
Queue times. But in all seriousness, I'm one of those max all combat class people, so I heal when it's needed or I'm not in the mood to tank or DPS.
I heal cuz I enjoy working from the shadows, you know those guys that you know are here but you never see them on red carpets. And cuz I absolutely hate combos and rotations :s Tho I have only pld and war left to get to 60 and I follow all rotations for all jobs I never get as much satisfaction out of it as I get from healing.
I heal because I'm a masochist that enjoys taking care of children on a daily basis and not getting recognition for my hard work.
But in all seriousness, healing is far less monotonous than DPS. I'm actually a huge fan of support classes in particular over healing classes. So things like FFXI's BRD, COR and GEO are my go to. I'm more satisfied when I make my group stronger and add to that strength. Hence why I leveled and switched main to Astrologian. Many people think the ever so lost "support" roll is boring but idk...it's very satisfying to me.
I heal because I naturally fell into the role and more specifically SCH. I have basically always played utility support roles in almost every mmo I have played in, more notably Alchemist/Biochemist from RO and main SMN in FFXI.
It is also of all the roles, I don't particularly trust my HP in some one else's hands. I tend to lose visual focus playing strictly DPS, and I am easily frustrated when tanking.
I heal because I love WHM (been my favorite job since my first FF) and I like to help people. Also because I have social anxiety and tanking or DPSing make me nervous (constantly stressed and anxious because I might lose hate any moment or constantly stressed and anxious because OMG I'm slowing them down).
I heal because I love the control.
DPS fail a mechanic or stand in an aoe, don't worry I'll save you.
Adds on me hitting me for chunks of life? I'll heal myself the tank and the dps that can't stop standing in the aoes, while keeping up aoe dps. Oops almost died hard casting shadowflare, LUSTRATE. All good.
Whole party wiped? Let me sing you the song of my people. LB3.
Did I just fail a mechanic or stand in an aoe? LUSTRATE. Did not. 2gud
Need a tank? Think I can handle it! Shit. LUSTRATE.
It's actually a funny story. I decided to get at least one of each role to 60, just to know what it's like. I did WHM last because I didn't really want to heal. BUT, then I started doing it and loving it. I was planning on leveling my Archer after I got WHM to 60, but I jumped into AST and had even more fun. I love being in big groups with a couple of Ninja and/or Monks and giving them all arrow and watch them run around like three year olds. So I guess I heal because I have the most fun with it.
Goes back to XI. My boyfriend got me interested in the game, and I was really excited to see what summoner was like. At that time, WHM was the best subjob for SMN. I was advised that I should level it to at least 37 for that reason.
So I did. And I had a lot of fun doing it. Then I was told that if I was having fun, I should just take WHM to 75 so that it would be easier to obtain all the summons.
So I did. And had even more fun. I eventually did level SMN and it was my second favorite job.
I had to quit XI after some years, and when I was finally able to go back, XIV 2.0 was very close to release. I felt like I got as much out of XI as I could have. So I signed up for the third beta, chose CNJ and had a lot of fun again.
Healing has been fun to me from the start. Even when I'm leveling other jobs, I miss healing.
I've also always been very nurturing according to friends and family. Maybe that is why I find it so fun.
Long-winded answer to a simple question. :p
1) I play a "healer IRL" like OP.
2) I sort of fell into it. When I first started with MMOs, I was originally planning on being a ranged DPS, but I was asked to heal a group in a dungeon. I got compliments from the rest of the group, so I figured I would stick with it, especially after learning that healers are generally in much higher demand than DPS.
3) I heal because (traditionally) healer roles in MMOs require a set of skills that I'm good at.
DPS involves a lot of serial processing--being able to memorize a script [ABCDEFABZCACSJA] (repeat) and executing it in real time. "Good" DPS know how to execute and tweak the script so that downtime from avoiding mechanics is minimized.
Tanks also have a certain amount of execution from a script (which rotations will allow me to get the most threat), but they need to have wide battlefield awareness and be "big picture" thinkers so that they can respond to stray mobs that peel off. A certain amount of spatial thinking is also required, because they're responsible for positioning the boss or adds in a manner that will minimize the amount of downtime for DPS and unnecessary work for healers.
Healer is very different from the other two roles and is much more intuitive. It's generally a role that you either love or hate. I think that most healers think of their moves situationally instead of serially (the boss just used Heavenly Heel and the tank is currently at 40% health, therefore an Essential Dignity or Benefic II would be most appropriate at this time).
Healer also requires a couple unique skills: the ability to prioritize or triage (everyone is at 40% health. Should I patch up everyone at the same time, or focus on the tank?) and the ability to clutch (making snap reactions to unexpected damage before the player at critical health dies). Outside of clutch situations, healer is more catered to slower, deliberative thinking--if you're performing your role well, you don't need to be constantly busy and slapping out a move every GCD (at least in games that don't demand as much DPS from healers as this game does.)
Because I generally like to help people.
Fast duty, mostly some of raid/trial phase healer just focus healing, and also I love heal + DPS.
Lots of reasons!
Healing truly matches my personality. I like taking care of people and offering succor! I even worked in the medical field in real life behind the scenes before my health took a bad turn.
Watching those health bars and keeping characters alive is so satisfying. Triage keeps me actively engaged in the game. I watch the party's health and choose the best spell for the situation. No stressful spell rotations to memorize.
As a healer in other games, I tended to be included in raids. Also, my waiting queues were shorter. I have found the same in this game. It's nice to be needed.
And lastly, I love the spells themselves. It's nice to be able to quest and know that I can easily replenish my health as needed. It's a big turnoff to me to keep dying while leveling.
I tried healing at first because I always loved white mage robes. The red triangles in stark contrast to the pure white robes is a simple yet vivid icon in the Final Fantasy series. I have since branched out.
Regardless, I've enjoyed healing from the first day. Everyone looks outward at external threats, but healers also look inwards and tend to the party. I feel closer to my party members when I heal, which is natural given more of my spells are spent on my friends than my enemies. Then there is the feeling of euphoria when I manage to save a party member from near annihilation with a timely spell.
Like several others have mentioned, I too am a "healer IRL" so I suppose it was a natural choice.
I really enjoy the diversity of the role. Some encounters have a lot of single target damage, some lots of AOE, some a mix of both. It's fun to know what is needed when and react accordingly. Some encounters don't have much damage at all and then you can stance dance and add to DPS. But really I enjoy supporting my party members and keeping them going! Nothing is quite so satisfying as seeing the healh bars go up after a big heal, or giving an enhanced balance and time dilating it on that great BLM. My secondary class is paladin which caters to group support, so I think that says a lot about my attitude toward that anyway.
I have never really enjoyed DPS. Pushing the line with damage, rotations, and mechanics always seems so overwhelming. Which is funny because I know a lot of people feel that way about healing!
Because this is the closest role to 'support' we have in this game. I like that my contribution to the party's success is non linear, tactical and situational.
I heal because I was generally put in the healer role by my friends (an early-ish example being FF Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube. Once we found the cure spell in the dungeon I was healer). It's the role I knew and genuinely tried to avoid when I could. But always found myself choosing jobs and classes that had healing abilities (but not focused).
In FFXI I loathed healing because of one bad experience. Got really pissed off when, as a budding Red Mage in my first Yuhtunga Mandragora leveling party, I was forced into a healer role while we had a White Mage in the group on top of a level 75 RDM healing us ("PLing" if you will). "RDM HEAL, Dia HASTE, REFRESH ONLY!" they said (and I lacked the latter two). That's when I picked up dancer (I started around the time WotG came out). Loved it because it had a ton of utility, could attack without being yelled at and I never had to be main heals.
And now I main heals in XIV. Go figure. I actually started the game as Archer/Bard and didn't pick up a healer role until I made my alt character and leveled CNJ/WHM a bit. I liked it, got it to 50 on her, then got it to 50 again on my main guy and made it his main role. I've accepted that I like the role. It's fun and can be challenging.
Now I'm just waiting for Red Mage in XIV, regardless of what role it is. It is, after all, my favorite job :P
1) Healing is both reactive and proactive in nature. Nothing beats pre-casting and landing a fat aoe heal right after group wide damage, or quickly casting an instant heal to save a failing tank.
2) I get to actively focus on my group as well as enemies. This helps me understand encounters faster and from multiple perspectives.
3) The dps "rotation" is enjoyable.
4) It fits the image I've developed of my character. Also better glamour options.
5) High skill ceiling. Fitting your healing output to the damage taken, avoiding overhealing, adjusting to burst phases, stance dancing, positioning to minimize movement, mp management... There's always something to improve.
Lot's of people have mentioned the control they have over people's lives, but that's not on my list. :D
I thought about the question again and found another answer:
I heal because someone's HP are dropping and no one else is stopping it :P
Yeah. I like that answer better x3
Because it also includes me spamming heals on other classes than designated healers when it's necessary xD
Been a healer in every single MMO I played, so it was natural I'd pick up healer class in 14. I love the challenges of being a healer, because each encounter is quite different, mechanics aside. There's that pretty grand feeling of satisfaction you get, when you save your party from the brink of death to total victory .
AST LB3 ftw =P
So the tank doesn't die?Quote:
