Anyone else think Verminion could have been a mobile game instead?

The fact that it is a game within a game means that the potential audience for it is reduced to those who play the main game. (Most of whom subscribe to the main game to play the main game, rather than a minigame, I'd imagine.)

It seems like hampered potential to me, considering how much thought the devs put into it.

Could have and probably should have been. It feels like it was a giant waste of development time given most of the reactions I've seen to it combined with people that just outright ignored it.

I think it's great but needs better matching options so people don't have to stay in one part of the gold saucer, hope people are there too, etc.

And a couple balancing measures for light vs heavy cost units. Really great game though

they made it too complicated. It should just have been one of these "tab and send the unit out to clash heads on" game.

Until now I still don't understand how to play it...

As for whether or not it should be a mobile game, no. I don't believe it's a waste of development team, it's something that will always be there. Even the 3rd expansion in new players could still experience it like it was truly intended. We need more "fun" content in this game, it doesn't always have to be raids, raids and more raids. We didn't give up any content for Lords of Verminion (like the dungeon for Diadem), so I need no harm in it. Also I don't feel like paying $3 for a minion with a mobile game, and it would be a pain to control this on a small screen.

I tried one or two games of it, then i realised even with mouse and keyboard its clumsy to play.

it feels like starcraft with units suffering pms, it´s hard to command your units around (even selecting them properly is a PITA), yet to establish a strategy other than the classic zergrush...

Yeah it should have been moblie. I remember trying it the first day and thinking this should have been on handheld console or mobile phone.

It was a huge waste of development time. Proof of this? Every time they introduce a new minion they need to add it to Verminion and come with skills and stats for it. Barely anyone is going to play it after the first few weeks because unlike Triple Triad you can't do it while in Queues... much like Chocobo Racing, which is now, also unpopular.

If we got this instead of a primal, a 3rd dungeon, more crafting, big fish, countless other things I feel are missing... I'd like to give this back please.

I'm sorry but I'd rather have this than a 3rd dungeon/crafts/more fish. Dungeons and fishing you do once and the novelty is gone. Minion battles against players are always unique and fun.

I would like more primal trails though, but it has to be challenging like Thordan. Easy stuff like void ark and dungeons kinda get boring after the first run, as every run after is the exact same.

The minion battles is actually really well made. I've played some starcraft in the past and I found the controls to be pretty nice, and the game to be really skill based. There is very little RNG other than what minions people have (and apart from panda, most of the good minions are easy to get anyway). A good RTS player can really dominate, and facing off against other players in a match of skills is something I really enjoy.

The only thing I'd trade minions away for is either another savage level raid, or more PvP content (including queue time fixes).

I think it was a good idea, poorly implemented though. IMO people saying that this mini game is a good RTS are being delusional, perhaps they are winning against people that never played any RTS and are having fun stomping these players. It has bad clunky controls, and basically it's a rock-paper-scissors game, whoever win the first two trades with a counter will most likely win the game, unless they are bad. The only good thing about verminion is the final challenge, due to not being just a zergfest. Overall, verminion is a flop.

At least they tried. I hope they try again and develop a fun, engaging mini game for the GS in the future.

I don't know, I once zerg'd my way through the challenges for Twintania and never touched it since. Not even for the challenge log MGP.

It's an awesome mini-game. This also gives some other reason to collect minions rather than just how cute they are sitting on your shoulder/head : p

Definitely this. Everyone has different likes, which is why I think it sucks for people to call out killing the minigame without considering that some people find literally everything else in the patch except Thordan and the minigame to be a bore. And everything else is just more of the same, either more dungeons, more trials in circular arenas, or more glorified hunts.

I mean other than the first clear, I don't do dungeons/24-man raids/diadem for fun. I do it to get my eso/xp/weekly drop/gear, which in the end is ultimately pointless once the next tier comes out. I just do it to stay up to date on gear and gear some alts, otherwise grinding dungeons and void ark just puts me to sleep. But I've had a blast with minions, I've faced over 100 real players and seeing what strategies people would use was really fun. There were a few matches where it was so close and so intense that I got the shakes after winning.

But again, different strokes for different folks.

It exists because people posted a lot, about wouldn't it be cool to battle your minions.

If they tuned it down, yes. At this point, not many people care with the wait times/ poor implementation and what not.

It was a great idea, horrible execution in my opinion :(

People asked for more non-grindy non-serious content and here it is. I'm looking forward to beating the npc challenges and dueling my boyfriend once I have time for it. As long as most people give it a try, I don't think it's any more wasted development time than one-time quests, the sightseeing log or other mini-games. PvE group content will remain the backbone of the game, which keeps people subscribing. Look on the bright side: at least they didn't make it mandatory like WoW's Garrison Menu Adventures With New Breakable Ship Minions (or simply Garrison as most people know it). The rage would flood the GD is people had to do win minion battles to progress the story line and relic quest. :D

The recent trend seems to be to condemn everything a poster doesn't personally enjoy to be wasted development time or even harmful to the game. Prime example: "remove the hunt waaaaa!" It's like these people can't fathom other people might enjoy what they hate.
