Theft and an FC

Well, reading up on some things this may not come as a shock.

As an FC leader, you choose your officers and give them a position of power because they have or do seem to be trustworthy. But what if someone whom you thought to be thusly is not?

I run my FC as an FC where everyone has a say. I council with my players on all matters of import. Today I logged in to find that all of my FC's airships had been dismantled. We had three airships going out on missions, ten million gil was taken and several stacks of high-end mats. All by someone I thought would be trustworthy. Imagine my surprise and horror to find out this was not the case. -more-

This person is no longer on our server. He has transferred and I have reported him. Unfortunately I am being told that GMs don't deal with FC thefts. This should not be. GMs should deal with this, in my opinion. There are rules against scamming people. If it would have been theft from me personally it wouldn't be an issue to me. He stole from my players. I've screenshots showing it. Proof that it has been done and it is aggravating to say the least that someone could get away with this. That those in charge of the game would allow this to happen without punishing those who did such. -more-

It's appalling. As an FC we are now unable to use our ships for new content. As an FC, we have been set back on purchasing and building a larger house. As an FC, we no longer have mats needed to make the ship. It has set us back and interrupted our play quality and nothing can be done about it? Rules haven't been broken? This is an issue that must needs be fixed and addressed. One player should not and does not have the right to ruin game play for an entire FC.

That said, if you are reading this thread, and I know you know who you are. You should be ashamed of yourself. You were trusted and you betrayed the trust not only of me but everyone in the FC. You have made me out to be a liar for defending your honor. You have insulted me and all the officers and players of the FC and do not think I will not pursue this issue. Do not think for one minute that I will idly sit back and allow this to happen and allow you to get away with it. I will take it to the top of need be. I may have came off as soft because I value the input of all the players in my FC, but know action will be taken and I will not sit down idly and let it happen.

Live and learn, the cost of trust and it's consequences. As much as we want a rainbow perfect world, humans are humans unfortunately.

As much as I would like GMs to handle this, if they can't even handle spam bots in major cities- this would be a way huge undertaking for their capabilities.

Has been an issue since the beginning of MMO's. You give them access to things then there's nothing GM's can do.

I'm sorry this happened to your FC, I really hope SE do something to help you out.

Sadly, like Mihael said, humans are humans. Keeping everything that has a considerable value/importance to the FC under your control is the only way to avoid that kind of thing. Some people will dislike it, others will understand, but if something bad happens, everyone loses.

So sad but this is why our FC leader and only 1 other person has that kind of access to our stuff cause of horror stories like this unfortunately like said before SE can't really do much since the person was given access

Our guildbank in World of Warcraft was robbed by a player who claimed his account had been hacked. We contacted a GM and he returned all our gold and items in minutes. We didn't even have to tell what had been taken.

Perhaps there is a similar system in FF14?

Okay, i see there is a problem. I feel sad for that this can happen.
Technicaly there was no theft at all, the player took what you give him the permission to take it and use it.
I don't want to blame you for this, but we are on the internet. We ar anonymous. And anonymous people do terrible things to anonymous poeple.
The only way to be sure you can trust a person is a personal connection to this person.

This is simply the case why only i and my GF have access to the airships & Chest 1 & 3.

everyone has access @ Chest 2.

We put foods,chocobo dyes craft stuff etc in there. For who ever needs it.
Then we got some funny person stealing it all out and leaving the fc.
No issue for me, i designed it this way, if it happens i just know i got rid of a bad apple for a small small price.

Honestly. to trust people on the internet... No i'll pass usually. unless i know said person a long time and i feel its right.
Often people ask for more permissions, and i'm like why? What is the use for you? "Ehmm.. well i can help you get those mats! and stack up"
Right... We're fine thank you for the offer but i'll pass. yet they keep insisting on higher ranks. No is no.

Happened to us over here. It is shitty but not much can be done. As said by op, SE ignores fc theft.

While yes it's bad, and we've had a theft too, it technically doesn't break the game's rules.. So the GMs can't get involved. Basically, the permissions set allowed them to do this, so Sae's hands are tied.

I hate to see this kind of thing happen on my server, I'm sorry to hear you guys were betrayed by a trusted (former) friend. I hope you all are able to recover from the setback, please exercise caution in your permissions (including who you allow to promote) going forward. Best of luck guys.

the gm service in this game is a joke.

I have little faith in mankind after many years of experience. MMOs harbor some of the worst of humanity hiding behind their keyboards/game stations, etc. In FF, I trusted 1 person to have sub access only because she helped me set them up and actually gave me some parts at the beginning. I have known her for a long time and she has shown herself to be honorable. These days I keep my subs/ships, one FC slot and $ locked only to me, the rest I leave open because I don't care, it's there for the taking just don't abuse it :) Sorry about your losses.

my FC leader didnt check permissions correctly...and logged in one day to find someone had put all the FC house decorations in a single stack by the door....
could have been much worse.
never give more than the permissions that are actually needed.
go read some Eve corporation theft stories.

It's not theft if you gave them permission to do it.
It's a balancing act on giving permissions without seeming too restrictive on your members.

Part of the problem is the default permissions given to newly added ranks. Someone new to FCs trying to run one may not be aware of just how permissive the default settings are. It's almost as bad as Facebook's default settings that will give away very personal information to anyone mining profiles instead of making the personal information settings hidden.

I'd been hoping they would make the changes to rank permissions they said they were working on by now but I guess it's something that has to wait until next expansion.

On one hand, I can understand the frustration of being robbed by players you put your trust into it. A GM should restore the missing items at some point.

But on the other hand, its also the fault of the one, who gives permission to those players. You should never trust people easily. Especially those you dont know. And you should NEVER give everyone the access to everything.


That somehow reminds me of a player who got invited by an FC. But there, he cleared the FC bank (selling almost everything to the next NPC), moved the entire furniture on one place and start eating the FC-bufffood in front of FC members... . And he did this to several FCs xD

You do realize that you replied to the necro post to a thread that has been dead for almost five years and are continuing to let this thread necro live, right?

People also sell FC's by asking people for making it easier to join their FC and use the bank as a transfer, and then kick you right after.

That is also not going against the rules and I have seen that scam before, never been a victim of.

Actually, it is out of their hands when the FC clearly state what is ok and what is not though controlled with permissions, if someone hacked their way in and it could be proved then the hammer of doom will fall.

My statement was regarding GM services in general, not about FC theft. People who operate a FC have to be smarter than a rock...
