The True Price of Expert Roulette

Expert Roulette feels designed to systematically make me hate every dungeon in the game.

My typical relationship with a dungeon in FFXIV goes something like this:

3 new dungeons are added (2 in 3.0) and I'm wide eyed and awestruck. The scenery is amazing. The fights are fun and challenging while relevant to your iLevel. Everything is new and interesting. With exception to a few dungeons I hated from the very first run (looking at you Neverreap) I think "Wow, I love this! I could do this forever!"

Flash forward about 4-6 weeks and I'd rather stab pencils into my fingers than run Expert Roulette again. The thought of the dungeons in Expert nauseate me. I quit capping tomes roughly a week or two beyond this (unless I have time to do it an alternative way - which typically I do not). Every time I enter that dungeon in the future (Hard Roulette) I feel mental anguish.

Honestly, why can't the Expert Roulette pool more dungeons? I feel like if I didn't have to run the same 2 dungeons every single day for months (to cap efficiently - believe me I know there are alternatives, but I'm talking about efficiency here) I might actually enjoy them for a long, long time. I might have fond memories of them and not feel sick when XYZ quest requires me to farm random Zenith/Anima item out of it. I feel like there could be a better way to handle Expert Roulette.

I'd rather burn out on the 2 new ones, than run the risk of rolling Fractal/Nevereap again...

And there's plenty of ways to cap Eso now, it's rare that I bother doing Expert Roulette more then 2-3 times a week - which is still an over kill.

And people wonder why we want to speed run them.....

Don't worry, after Expert Roulette you will have the chance to run them many many times again in the form of Relic Quests!

Tbh, I probably wouldn't be totally satisfied even if they had four dungeons in Expert Roulette. Would it be a lot better? By the twelve yes! But I will always want more content!

What I don't understand is why it's called roulette?
Roulette has multiple possibilities, often a wide range.

This has more in common with a coin-toss than roulette.

If it has at-least 4 dungeons I'd call it a roulette.

I really see what´s comming up, the "old" 2 Dungeons really sucked, but I enjoyed the "not much to do"-Time now before patch, did the daily Roulette Schedule upside down.

Combined with some multiruns for Alexander for desired loot, i capped mostly on Wednesday, so I ran expert two to max three times a week... that was... acceptable...

But I also don´t have much pressure on Esos since BLM has very few BiS item´s from Esos, so I just buy a mandatory piece each week to not cap.

While I would love more options for EX roulette, the dev team doesn't likely have the time to produce 4 new dungeons per patch. They could add all the dungeons pre- Haukke Manor and set it for synched/minimum ilevel.... Imagine running Sastasha normal, but with your gear all dropped to level 5....

But that is mainly due to THAT roulette already consinsisting of 2 dungeons for months isnt it? ;)
-> had 3.0 4-dng-roulette you might not even be that crazy about 1 or 2 of em carrying over to 3.1 roulette for yet again 4-dng-roulette. Vicious circle. It was a bit better with arr 3 dng roulette wasnt it?

I would have loved new TO sets, would have gave me the power to continue doing it, but now I'd rather kill myself than do the same 2 dungeons every day for months. You can always do diadem for eso now, or simply, stop caring.

Personally, I would prefer that there be a larger pool of dungeons. Make more of the dungeons hard modes earlier. That's what I want to see.

"Hell Roulette"?

Honestly, think about how SE did the roulettes in 3.1. The way they set it up was where there were 2 Roulettes(like ARR 2.5), and each had tombstones. Expert gives 40+35, while Lv 60 gives 30+15. This allows us to get 120 Esos a day, making things much, MUCH easier on the base than daily grinding. You can cap in 4 days.

They're all straight hallways with trash. I don't know why anyone complains about running the same dungeon when we've been running the same dungeon since friggin amdapor keep.

As long as they make the dungeons interesting and have some changes in scenery I'm ok with it. Neverreap and Fractal were just room after room or island after island of the exact same scenery. This time around, The Arboretum is super cool and has varied landscapes and rooms, and even Pharos Hard has some different stuff instead of just the lighthouse part. It is nice to have different scenery and a whole big mix of different mob types instead of either Vanu, bees and hakulak or "all the robot looking things".

Why can't they release two level 60 dungeons every patch (at least until/if the level cap increases) and have simply a Level 60 Roulette? Put them all in there. Eventually there would be more than the four we have now. Leave the Level 50 Roulette as-is. Leave the Leveling Roulette as-is. Finally, use the quest sync feature and put all dungeons into the EX Roulette but have them sync up to level 60. Could possibly supplement this with a few special rare drops or mobs, chance for a Mistbreak item etc. Something. This way running an EX you could literally get anything.

Even though I've been playing since 2.0 EA, I have yet to receive a single tombstone from dungeons.

You get 40 eso for completing objectives in the Diadem.

Join the end-game and exterminate dinosaurs for a while. You will LONG for expert roulette to take you back.

This would be really nice. And bring so much more meaning to the term "Expert" roulette.
Hard to be an "expert" at the dungeons if you don't know half of them.
