When is this going to be added? I miss mine from FFXI.
Probably 4.0 along with Blue Mage and Red Mage.
at best? next expansion.
at worst? Never.
There is no answer for it. It was teased and that was it. We have no idea when "Samurai" will be released as a class. The next classes will be released in 4.0 (next expansion).
I kinda feel they have the base for it from the way Hydrus fights in the first level 60 dungeon. Just the stance he takes with his weapon is kinda reminiscent of a Samurai i'd say.
Blue Mage pls pls pls

It's getting added in 3.1
Has there actually been anything about red and blue mage? The last I remember was Yoshi-P saying red mage would be hard to balance so that it isn't a must have or complete garbage. In the same interview he commented on blue mage possibly being an interesting take on a solo class.
This was pretty long ago so I'm sure I've missed something with people talking so much about these jobs recently.
When is Nightshade job going to be released?
Or
Heritor job
these two jobs from final fantasy tactics advanced 2
Samurai I used to play one in FFXI but I changed into a rune fencer just thought to myself rune fencer godly.
If I remember correctly they said something along the lines of - they planned on adding it as the new tank job in 3.0 but they didn't want to release to eastern inspired jobs (because of Ninja) back to back, so they switched it out and brought in Dark Knight and made it the new tank instead.
They then (I believe) said they would like to see it come out at some point, but had no established date for when they would because it would have to fit along with the story/expansion/whatever... So at the moment your answer would be: We don't know lol
It was stated in one of numerous post-3.0 interview that they will never again release 3 jobs at the same time. The balancing work was too much in 3.0.
Also consider that the armory system only has 2 more open spaces for main hand weapons/ tools. They would have to be insane to release another 3 classes before overhauling the armory system to support more weapons.
I wouldn't be surprised if Samurai was held until the main story heads to Doma. We'll probably get some poetry suggesting the location of 4.0 when 3.1 hits next week, so we'll see then.
I wanta know when they are gonna add DNC and I really hope its a dps/tank kinda job. I really wouldn't want it to be a healer class it be a big turn off for me for DNC.
I think an interesting way to implement Samurai would be to bond it with Blue Mage in a Tank/DPS Hybrid learning Monster Skills via Job Quests. We really need a 4th tank and healer job so we can officially Ballence out the Tank/Healer/DPS ratio back to 1/1/2.
Yoshida have said too that he don't see the samurai as tank anymore
plus like i have said before, while the 2nd anniversary event, when you was going back into the dev room, Yoshida pnj was talking of the Samurai and Red mage

oh please no, i feel the bluemage will be one of the most complicate jobs to add, soo far every jobs have only one role... bring an hybrid that will be as good than a specialist will simply be a pain.
It was also stated by the devs a while back that they wouldn't be releasing multiple jobs anymore in a single patch, as it created a balancing nightmare with 3.0. Instead we will see 1 job every expansion, with a possibility of getting a second job midway through the patches (like they did with NIN).
I honestly want to know how Samurai is suppose to be and less a Tank than paladin or dark knight considering all 3 were just diffrent forms of heavy infantry Paladin being your Sheild Bairer and Dark Knight being your Heavy Swordsman Line Breaker.
A Tank IRL was a mobile artilery weapon invented in the world wars, so if we're calling anything with heavy Armor a Tank the Samurai IS a Tank.
Even healers can deal dammage do DPS SPECIALISTS are what the DPS classes are. So a DPS Samurai makes as much since as a DPS Paladin IMO.
Arent we going to get another class in 3.4?
FFXI had a better representation of it, because Samurai had evasive and tanky skills to parry attacks, was able to do high damage and they yet could use a bow to deal ranged DPS, plus having skills for it.
I think it'll be hard to implement Samurai here. It suits better as a melee DPS, but doing that you'll be ignoring the archery aspect of Samurais (Archers on a horse, using the Katana as last resort in close combat).
Depends on the type of Samurai we are talking about. I admit I don't know to much when it pertains to Samurais but I can invision them 1 of 2 ways.
The lightly armored

and more heavily armored.
http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/...i-warriors.jpg
the difference is the armor they was using, samurai until really late was using lamellar and scale armor, that mostly protect while keeping a good mobility, that not the case of the paladin(knight) with him full plate armor.
plus what will bring samurai as tank? a tank more offensive? we do have the warrior for this... we do have a tank magical with the dark knight and a tank with high resistance with the paladin. samurai will be doublon with the warrior.
add another tank will not make more people play tank...
i always thought this was a hint: http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/000991.html
that new japanese looking hairstyle with the words "your new favorite hairstyle, EVEN IF YOU DONT KNOW IT YET" ....
but that post is so old now ... i guess it has lost its mystery lol...
I've made a few suggestions for this actually, just give Samurai a bow in the same way Paladin has a shield. I'd actually quite like it if the katana was reserved solely for finishers, I'm sure that is a fairly common trope with Samurai... Could effectively make it similar to Final Fantasy XIs Samurai, where it builds TP for a Weapon Skill, except rather than building TP, you're doing ranged combos to build up to Tachi: Kaiten.
Is that aimed at me, or your attempt at forming a grammatically sound sentence?
Anyway, perhaps combo finisher is a bad way to put it... Something more like how Summoner now works; You do your rotation and build up Aethertrail, then when you have enough you switch to Dreadwyrm Stance for some nice payoff with Deathflare. Similarly, Samurai could mostly be ranged based, building up a stack to draw their Katana and unleash their typical flashy sword swing. Certainly a more interesting way to handle and balance a ranged Jobs mobility "issue" than giving it cast times... Assuming Tachi: Ahk Morn even requires you to be in melee range. I really don't see what is complicated about having a ranged Job that has to sit in melee range to throw out its flashy finisher, though...
that quite complicate as system, you will ask a person to play ranged and to move to melee for finish him combo... that... sorry if i look insulting, idiot.
other point, the Samurai was using a lot of different type of weapon, spear, katana, nodachi, bow,... but only one rule remain a samurai do always have a katana, it's them main weapon used for protect them lord or them life.
the samurai goal was not to be a shield, but to kill the enemy of him lord... death was not feared that why them armor was more about mobility than protection.
the mentality was quite different, a knight was protecting him lord as him shield a samurai was the blade of him lord.
anyway, it's pointless to debats on this, since every FF with a samurai see it use a katana as main weapon, not a bow.
If/when they add Samurai, it might not be what you are expecting (having hopes that it will be nostalgic of XI)
As far as I know, the plan is to not add new jobs until the next expansion (Ninja was a special case as Yoshida believed it should have been present in the opening lineup of jobs)
We know now that they are being a little flexible with decision making and are responding to player feedback when prioritizing content, but until they say something... just assume it will be a long time.
Samurai will be really hard to implement. Especially if you are remembering the job from ffxi. In that game samurai was a slow, hard hitting dps. Because of the speed of the battle system in ffxiv paired with the gcd, a slower dps job in this game would feel horrible and have a very simple combo system.
I think that blue mage has more potential as currently we do not have a job that is close range and uses intelligence as a dmg modifier. However the cast time for spells would have to be really short to make the feel of aa close range caster work.
That's a very valid point. The lower picture is how they'd have been in a battlefield setting such as a siege while the upper version was the everyday attire as well as what was usually worn in duels against fellow samurai.
This argument has always irritated me as Samurai was INTENDED to be a tank in FF11 and Ninja was INTENDED to be a Dps, The fact that they were role swapped was entirely due to players using the poor design of both classes in a more effective way that just happened to result in the Role Swap.
With all the Samurai glamour options (Kabuto, Law gear, NIN PvP, etc) they should hurry up and release it before SAM gear becomes passe'
In term of gear sharing balance, new job should fill in role that still have no gear sharing. We have 3 tanks 3 healer 2 ranged dps 2 caster already but no any job share melee gear. Samurai should be DPS and share maiming gear with DRG. They have a lot of aspect like each other such as slow attacking but hit hard, can wear both heavy and light armor theme, and most skill in past series focus on attacking. Moreover, if Samurai is STR DPS, they can fill the 3rd slot for slaying accessory too and left only casing accessory still share with 2 jobs (Red mage might be fill this slot in future). NIN is melee but they share aiming accessory with 2 ranged DPS now. It will unbalance if they get 4th job for sharing it.
Samurai sandals are lame and bothers me when there is many things that shock, burn, disintegrate, melt, give you bad diseases or freeze your feet.
Oh in addition, if it's very close to drg then people will cry that it's just a clone job. Unless all we want is just the samurai name. Then by all means, put it in the game.
I personally would want new jobs to have their own identity.
