Hello, and thank you for clicking the link to this thread! I'm honestly not sure if I should post this here because my question is not entirely Final Fantasy XIV related. But the game is involved, which is why I posted this here. If I posted this at the wrong place, I apologize.
I recently bought a new PC and upgraded it with Final Fantasy XIV, as well as other games, in mind. Ever since the day I brought it home, I've been paranoid(?) about taking care of it from the inside and out. As soon as the fans in my PC get louder while playing a game, I shut it [the game] down. When it comes to running Final Fantasy XIV, my PC does very well running it with adjustments here and there. FPS is nearly perfect outside of cities and camps with the occasional and small hiccups (or whatever you call them). But stuttering occurs within cities and camps. (This happened with my old computer as well.) After over an hour or so of play the fans get louder, and loading times between gameplay and cutscenes become much slower. (I assume this is because of the memory leak issue.) After this happens I shut down the game, restart my computer (if it takes a little longer to respond to my mouse) and give my computer a short break (around 30 minutes to an hour).
So here are my questions: Am I doing the right things, or am I worrying too much? If I am indeed worrying too much, than what should I do differently? And what do you do to take care of your computer?

Baldur the best way to get help with this is to give us the stats of your new machine. things lik, GPU, PSU, CPU, RAM, etc etc. If your not sure how to get this info you can use the system info from the FFXIV config.
As for the speed of your fan(s) that's going to occur has things heat up and cool down inside your machine so I wouldn't worry about that. -

Aye without knowing what spec your Pc is we cant help much.
Even a Hi end old Pc could run the game better then a low end new pc, so its a perspective thing, new helps, but wont mean as much as hi or low end.

You probably are worrying a shade more than most people would but if shutting your pc down when it starts to get warm makes you feel safer then you aren't hurting anything (unless you are excusing yourself from parties to restart your pc...)
In short if it helps with your own peace of mind to be extra careful, go for it. -

Ok, i am too a paranoid person when it comes to the fan noise.
I have built my computer recently and i have no problems running the game, but fans on the other hand..
Anyway, if you are using a program called smart doctor which comes with asus motherboard package (It's in the disk) i would suggest you to shut it of, because A: It adjusts the gpu fan speed automaticly/manually, that is unnecressary feature to the already build in auto adjustment.
(I myself have disabled smart doctor and i'm running the other fan speeds via AI suite from asus and the temperature and noise are reasonable.)
If your game is being slow or whatnot it's because your gpu or cpu is overheating and therefore makes the game slow down, it may also occur when the ram capacity is reached..
Check your computer cooling system and stay with the normal fan speed 50% fanspeed or auto speed, do not hastle with them if you want less noisy fans
Get more fans better cpu, check the thermal paste on your cpu (clean cpu with 100% alcohol) and put new thermal paste on the cpu and better fan on the cpu after. -

And perhaps I should explain why I'm worried about this. Before I got my new PC I always thought a happy computer is a quite computer (and vise-verse) and, shortly after getting my new PC, I heard loud fan noises in gaming PCs are common. This is the first time I ever got a PC that I'm comfortable with calling a gaming PC, so I don't understand, what I like to call, the "language" of my PC. When does your PC tell you when enough is enough? What signs must you pay attention to?
I shut down whatever game I'm playing when the fans get too loud. I only restart my computer when the icons in the toolbar respond slower to my mouse, which I assume is caused by memory leaks. And I lost peace of mind about my PC a while ago, which is why I created this thread.Quote:

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with your system and about the fan noise getting too loud, you can change the settings for less fan noise. Smart Doctor increases the fan speed to too high rates if you are using automated fan speed. The fan speed can get to 2500-3000rpm and thats when it becomes too loud to bear, simply use 50% fan speed to keep steady airflow to your gpu and it shouldnt get that warm either.
Anyway, i'm running with the same specs.

Anyway, when i run the game i usually shut the smart doctor when i'm playing or if i feel comfortable i just switch the fan speed to 50% on the SD.
Temperature on my gpu is usually aroun 40c-56c and when i'm not playing anyt games the temperature stays at 28c
Oh and if you have overclocked your system it may also cause sudden slowdowns /Flickering screen or crash/Overheating. -

The fan get louder because it cooling down the system if the TEMP are within range should not even worry about it.
Just make sure you clean the inside every few months. -

Yeah no worries. If your fan noise is too loud you can also change out those stock fans with any number of great after market fans for your CPU and GPU. Usually those fans that come with are small inexpensive 80mm fans. Same goes for your intake and exhaust fans. Personally on my PC I have 2 120mm fans that came with the case for intake and exhaust. I purchased an after market MASSIVE and I do mean MASSIVE CPU cooler that came with a 120mm fan. My GPU is also a really nice upgrade from the standard shipped cooler as it 1), is very low profile, 2) dual 120mm thin fans and 3) came with an external dual fan adjuster so I can personally turn up or down either fan to help with not just noise but boost cooling as needed.
Here is the GPU cooler I got and here is the CPU cooler I got. Scythe products imo are amazing and my PC runs quieter than my laptop. The loudest thing in my box is an old a$$ PSU that I've had since 2001 xD lol. Still works so I'm getting my moneys worth out of it. :P

Thank you very much for your advice, everyone! I really appreciate it.
I decided to do an experiment with the game last night to see how the fans react. I've noticed that my fans always become louder when I spend an extended period of time in Gridania and/or The Black Shroud. So, last night, I decided to play Final Fantasy XIV as normal with one exception; do not enter The Black Shroud nor Gridania. The result was quite unexpected; the fans acted almost as quietly as when I'm not playing a game! I suppose this means I should avoid those areas until Square Enix optimizes the game, or at least until The Black Shroud gets a redesign. All client crashes that ever happened to me in the game ever since I got this PC was in Gridania anyway. (That place is cursed, I swear it!)

I suggest getting MSI Afterburner, it's an Overclocking utility, but not only that, it allows you to monitor your GPU temps, GPU usage, and fan speed. While running FFXIV and doing something intensive (go somewhere that has a lot of foliage or players), check the temps. Don't worry about the fan. The only time you should be worried about your fan speed is if your fan speed is at 100% but your temps continue to climb for several minutes. That's usually a sign that you need to clean your computer out and/or swap out the thermal grease on your GPU for a new grease (requires a little bit of taking apart).
You could use that utility and post what you see as your average temps if you're concerned, but I wouldn't worry too much about it as you just said you made a new build.
