they still talking about guildleves? really? didnt highlight how awesome the ifrit encounter? and how hard it be? didnt talk about materia?
what an objective review...
i like how he says
the game is going in the right direction but it still basicaly sucks and no one should play it
he fails to address several changes in the game
he fails to make comments that are well informed and just basicaly guesses at a few things(least thats what im assuming hes doing as he doesnt have all the facts)
and hes stating that things are dull in this game, when if they did the exact same thing in other games it would be praised(quest system anyone?)
Completely agree with this review.
User interface is still one of the largest issues of the game that needs to be addressed. I am really not sure why it hasn't been completely overhauled. The multiple action bars shown on screen at the same time is a feature that cannot wait much longer to be implemented.
Guildleves and grinding are still the best ways to level up (if we're ignoring power leveling). The side-quests should yield more SP and be more inventive. We haven't seen any cool mechanics associated with them. They are literally all simply escort or kill and return.
Finally, there is a glimmer of hope, and the game has actually made me enjoy myself recently. With the materia system and the grand companies, I feel like we may be getting there. But like Yoshi said, I feel its only 50% of the way, and I think they accurately gauged that percentage before announcing it.
Also, I'd just like to add that compared to the 1.18 review, I felt MMORPG did give this an objective review from the prospective of what SE needs to hear from the most: the disgruntled player who hated the game at launch. Not XI elitists or XIV hopefuls, but the player base that no longer cares.
lol MMORPG.com. The site is over-run by people with MMO ADD, and have to bad mouth any game they're currently not playing to justify there game of choice.
The articles are a nice read, however. Gotta agree with this one. Wished they mentioned more of the patches content though.
I lose interest in the thrid paragraph. this guy hasn't played the game.
"Of course these changes will be controversial, and a quick look over many fan sites will see the anguished cries of those that have seen a dramatic slash in their hit points and damage rating, but hey, it's all for the greater good right?"
Really. this guy hasn't played the game. Everybody's HP's went up about 25%. Yeah everybodys dmg when down but so didn't mob hit points. I myself like the balence now.
I think FFXIV is headed in the right direction, though in saying that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know or praise it. Its nothing outstanding my any means just borderline so the score of 51 suits it quite well.
Fair and honest review. He left it on a positive note at least.
We have to remember that we've become used to the UI, levequesting, crafting/gathering minigames, and grind that the reviewer distresses over. Put yourself in a brand new player's view who just got done playing Rift or even FFXIII, and you'll understand where he's coming from.
MMORPG needs to just stop posting reviews they are biased to the point of stupidity atm.
The game is not ready to be released there is no doubting that so a low score is merited, but a score in the low 50s still is sorta absurd as the game is no longer that bad.
Compounded with the fact they are dwelling on 12month old content which is no even the focus in the game anymore, failed to list any additions to the game, failed to mention endgame, failed to mention changes in leveling, failed to mention materia, no real mention of the companys, etc shows they did not do a review of this game at all.
They told someone who hates the game to review a game that is labeled "The worst mmo ever made", the game is still not as "Good as WoW" so there for it gets slammed.
All in all the review is biased and has no true merit for someone looking at this game for the first time.
It is just going to be awesome when a game with a score of 58/100 outlives both ToR and Rift and other wow clones in the end which got/will get scores above 85. I think a 60 would be equivalent to a score of 96/100 with mmorpg.
All in all they need to say the game is still not done being redesigned, post the changes, future changes in the works, major issues that still exist, then make thier I would not play this game yet statments. Not "hey they game sucked at launch... why the @@@@ are you still even looking at it Bioware is releasing something soon."
saying the game sucks with no backing to why and no mention of improvement, is just proving that site has little to no merit on their reviews.
I think you are the very biased person here, the review is pretty much spot on, the UI is still bad(Sure not as bad as before but that does not make it any better), there is NO END GAME!! NO END GAME DO YOU UNDERSTAND ? NO ENDGAME! The game is not better than any AAA MMORPG out in the market Period. The game is still not half the game vanilla wow was at release, wanna argue about it ? vanilla wow had 10+ dungeons, 3 end game ones and a raid, this game has 3 dungeons in total.... not one is end game :)
The game is still bad, don't let fanboi glasses cloud your sight. The UI needs to be scrapped, Linkshells need options, the market wards... oh boy.
BUT the game sure as hell is better than it was a year ago.
its hit and miss
while their life totals did go down, it was a balancing issue(i cant confirm wether or not it really ruins their gameplay or not or how hard it is to fight as i cant test it exactly cuz im all 50)
however, the main issue since patch isnt the life totals and its results, but the fact that people were dying not cuz of it, but because they were trying to fight as if it was pre patch when you were fighting +10 or more mobs instead of mobs closer to your level
the lower life made it seem like maybe it was the issue, but no, the fact was that people died cuz they werent fighting the appropriate mobs
oh i wasn't disputing that at all. i just was saying that i had tried it across my classes on my main and the hp has increased for them, but when i used my alt i noticed a drastic hp decrease. i wasn't saying that was the reason they died, but just stating that the across the board hp was not increased by 25%.
yes, people are dying alot because i still see people even in their mid 40's trying to solo mobs in their mid 50's and it's just not going to happen anymore. once people stop fighting mobs above them and start realizing sp at their rank is just as good we'll see less deaths.
"Really. this guy hasn't played the game. Everybody's HP's went up about 25%. Yeah everybodys dmg when down but so didn't mob hit points. I myself like the balence now."
that was the post i was quoting and responding to. there's plenty of issues we can pick out with the post from the author, but we don't need to make stuff up to try to justify them being wrong. starting a new character, which is what they do, their observation there was correct. if they played long enough and had a high level char then they would be lying.
Leaves out a lot of important stuff, ignores the complete redirection as of January and the earthquake month by pointing out the fact that certain problems still exist after a year when under these circumstances it's more like 8-9 months, complaints about issues that are confirmed being worked on, and generally littered with non objective conjecture and ignorance.
But it does provide the perspective of someone who doesn't follow the game very well. So there's that.

so much for "patch 1.19 IMPRESSION"
Excuse me ? My hp didnt go up,my hp went down with 50%..dunno what you're on.
My pugs HP went up that was the first thing I noticed, then secondly noticed the HUGE stat boost I had prior to 1.19, all my stats above 180.... when before I had no where near that...
I type grand company, not companies lol... yeah ifrit in the article,my mistake, but they didnt describe the encounter itself.. point is, how can you said impression, when you definitely dont experience the thing?
analogy
A : My impression of the new car is: it is fast and comfortable but the fuel wont last long..
B: So you already ride it?
A: no, but thats what the brochure said and other people saying..
/facepalm
I doubt many reviewers will have much end game experience in FFXIV. That is something SE is going to have figure out a way to overcome before PS3 release because times are hard and I doubt to many people will commit $50+ up front and 13+ per month to the game without doing any research on it. If it was a brand new title maybe but by the time its released on PS3 it will most likely be atleast a year and a half old game.
ya i agree don't like the coverage, but at least he made the impression it is finally getting better, unlike previous attempts of, "oh look 3 days till a big patch game still no improvement".... why even write it? lol but ya wish he took the time to try everything not from hearsay.
I think it is a fair review to be honest. We have grown to love it, in spite of it's problems, and it's difficult for those of us that play to be objective, without being biast, and in this case, I think the review hits the right notes, if a little negatively put at times.
There are some points in that review i do agree with. Infact, we have all stated many times that some of those points do need addressing.
My main concern about the article is that (despite bringig up a few valid points) there was alot of good things the writer missed. I cannot help but look at the writting style of that article and feel the writer felt jaded about the game from the get go.

MMORPG.com The site hat posts a pre-1.18 review 2 days before 1.19 and says it still contains "much relevant information about the current state of the game"
obviously this 'writer' didn't actually play any of the new content at all, what with his old screenshots (last one came all the way from BETA), his glossing over the major new features in a hurried way, and then his insistance on commenting about guildleves and behests (only leves i've done for months has been local, and now company leves which are much more fun than battlecraft).
Not a very good opinion piece. Even if i did agree somewhat with his opening paragraph.
Yes, and they were right about that.Quote:

Sounds like a lot of QQ to me, "oh i cant figure it out needs more tutorials"
i weep thinking of the future
I'm an MMORPG.com person, I spend a lot of time there but I share the viewpoints of very few people there, it seems. I decided to come back to FFXIV the other day and check out the changes going on and I must say that article has a very skewed opinion and I was pretty unimpressed with what they had to say.
They didn't even touch on like any of the major changes from 1.19. So now all these little sheep over there have no clue that the game really has been changing (in part for the better - I'm enjoying myself) and probably won't give the game a shot.
The telling point of all this is... when MMORPG first rated, it gave FFXIV a 5.1.
After all the patches, we can all agree the game has improved in both performance and content.
Yet, the rating stays the same.
Perhaps because in the meantime standards have shifted?Quote:

Or because a year ago, the hope for quick improvement was still realistic?
The review is very kind indeed; it's the first one ever to state that the game is not complete crap, and that there's quite a bit of hope now on the horizon. And that significant improvements have been made. I can live with that, and am looking forward to more.
If the standard had changed, all game ratings would have dropped. I highly doubt that happened.
Garbage .
he was dead on this game will always be looked @ like a broken game till they fix the dame delays and the UI.
That guy just do the 3 or 4 GC leves. Rent a chocobo. And fight some leves. Why ppl even write so much playing barely a day?
