Ps4 controller protip

In case anyone doesnt know about this I thought I'd share with you all.

You know those abilities you need on the fly but not necessarily all the time so you don't want to have them up on your main crossbar. For example monks meditation, tornado kick. Warriors defiance and deliverance.

You can simply tie them to L3 and R3 (push button) using a macro.

Step 1. Map the controller buttons to macro
System Configuration>controller settings>controller customization
L3=execute macro #98
R3= execute macro #99

Step 2. Create the macros
Using the examples above for monk and warrior, which are the only ones I use. These are my current macros

#98 L3
_______________
/ac "tornado kick"
/ac "defiance"

#99 R3
______________
/ac "meditation"
/ac "deliverance"

Each different class I use static placed hotbars to show the cooldowns for each ability. I imagine if you have more abitilities to add you can just keep going down the list.

I use it for assist(L3) Sprint and Mount (R3) but kind of you to show newer players!
Suggestion for this macro if someone out there would like to use it to mount/Sprint:

I changed my L3 to assist. (I main healer)
R3 you can change to macro #99.


A simple Sprint macro is just
/ac Sprint

A more complex Sprint macro is

/ac sprint <t>
/mount "Main Mounts name"
/mount "Backup Mounts name"
/ac Sprint

[if the company Chocobo is not your main mount place it in the backup slot. If it is your main mount put your runner up, for when your choco is stabled]

What this does is:
[*]It lets you Sprint towards something without attempting to mount if you target anything, even yourself.
[*]It will have you mount if Sprint is on CD or if you're not targeting anything.
[*]It will summon your chocobo companion as a mount instead of your default, so you don't get an error while he is summoned for combat.
[*]It will also summon your backup mount when your chocobo is stabled, if he is your default mount.
[*]Finally, Sprint is repeated at the end so that if you are In a place where your mount is forbidden and you aren't targeting anything, it will have you Sprint.

:) Figuring this out has made my hotbar much more enjoyable. :D

Since i'm a melee, I keep L3 as my draw weapon since I also have it to switch crossbars and R3 as lock-on. I used to have R3 as sprint, but it was ultimately pointless, especially since you can't bind macros to other buttons.

I used to have R3 as my Ninjutsu, but I have took it off since I was so used to pressing a face button for it, thus causing me to get the "Rabbit".

Macro to target Focus Target by pressing R3 or L3
Really handy, I use this constantly.

you can also draw your weapon by holding L1 and pressing R1

I found the most useful thing to put on R3 was the face target function. That prevents a lot of interrupted spells.

I put Sprint and mount on a main crossbar that is share between classes. I wish the buttons were all customizable because it would be nice to use r1 for Sprint and l1 for mount. For melee Sprint isn't really something I would want to do anytime as it drains tp to zero.

I use L3 for marking mobs and R3 for mount. The less used skills are always on a third hotbar acessed only via R1+X.

yea i use L3 as assist too, reli reli helpful this way, R3 tho, i have been thinking alot, but at the end i decided to use it for looking at the camera........;)

That's a great tip! Anther tip I find myself bringing to light to ps4 players is targeting... Most ps4/controller players struggle with this and wish we can just click on a mob to target it. However this tip isn't quite as efficient, it does beat trying To cycle with the D-pad to our desired target.

The mob/enmity list that appears on the left of the screen (or somewhere else if you've moved it) when combat is engaged is the tool I use most when targeting. L1 + up and down cycles through these enemies. This window also displays marked mobs so you can plan for the future if your party is utilizing this feature.

Another alternative is holding R2 or L2 and tapping L1. This will select the next viable target to the left of your current target. The same works for R1 and to the right. If you have no current target selected it uses your character as a central point and whatever targetable hostile in relation to you and the camera angle. Hope this helps.

Yes!!! This is a very useful tip and recommend everyone use it. I found out about it way late in the game and was used to just swapping through with R1. I then leveled DRK and it's pretty damn necessary to utilize this function. I'm glad I got rid of my old habits and adopted this function.

Yes but how do you add skills to that. I went and enabled it but it's not letting me add skills to it it's getting frustrating. Can someone give me a step by step on adding skills to the advance cross bar (l2+r2) (r2+l2)

Start->Character Configuration->Hotbar Settings->Expanded Hold Controls.

The hotbars listed are the ones you place skills on. EX If L2->R2 says Cross Hotbar 8 - Right, then put your skills on Hotbar 8 on the Right Trigger side.

I set both expanded controls to the same hotbar so that no matter which order I hold, they both bring up the same bar. :3 (Not the most efficient but you don't need that much more space xD)

Yes I use R2 + L2 for every battle class I play especially after 3.0... those slots fill up fast. For example in 2.0 I use to have my mudras on L2 button side but now I have it on R2 + L2 button side bc of how I do my opener. I also do the same for BLM with enochian + Leylines.

I put all buffs like BfB on R2 + L2 dpad side because I use R2 button/dpad for my main skills on the main crossbar with the exception of DRG and MNK. DRG and MNK is slightly different but the concept is the same on L2 bc of the dual rotations it offers. I always put my oGCD's on the dpad side to not only free up space on my button side but it allows me to clip a lot easier in between ogcd and gcd skills. Plus if I do the same for every class it makes it a lot easier when trying to remember the rotations between all the classes. GCD skills on buttons oGCDs on dpad with some different variations inbetween.... easy enough. keep it simple goes a long way to keep that dps pumping out.

I have 3 crossbars total. 1st cross bar is my main rotations. 2nd cross bar is for miscellaneous stuff like warp, mounts, house option and Limit Break. 3rd crossbar is used for the quick bar option (L2 + R2 and R2 + L2). I rarely ever switch to my 2nd crossbar except when I heal. When I heal I put all my dps skills on the 2nd bar including cleric stance. This allows me to throw down as hard as I can as fast as I can and then switch back to healing with a simple 1 click on the R1 button (if you use the weapon out option which only allows you to move between crossbars you set in your character settings under cross bar and hot bar tabs. You can even set options for when you don't have your weapon out so you can freely move between all your crossbars). Plus it keeps the healing cross bar from getting cluttered.

Thank you this helps. Yeah I really just need it for one skill in mnk that's perfect balance, since right now it's kinda slowing my down on my skill application. So when I start L2 + circle is my demolished and I want to place my perfect balance on that same circle when I hit R2, so basically I'm just hitting 1 button and still keep my thumb on the left stick which my movement stick.
