Do Au Ra have Forked Tongue

I'm not sure if this is the right section for this. But do Au Ra have Forked Tongues?

I know in some fiction, succubus and demons can also have Forked Tongues.

In Reptiles they use these Tongues to smell. A forked tongue allows them to sense from which direction a smell is coming.

I know there are some quests (NInja, White Mage, Dark Knight) that have Au Ra Npcs. Sadly I haven't done any of these yet.
Do these quests explain any additional facts about the Au Ra's Physiology or Apperance?

From what little can be made out no, this is not the case. I have not seen anything odd when my character opens her mouth and none of the quests deal with Au Ra physiology (well, DRK at least).

I think as far as the necessity of the forked tongue that many (if not most) reptiles possess would not be as vital to an Au Ra being as their Horns give them an echolocation like sixth sense that allows them to locate things in their surroundings.

So being as Au Ra have a form of Echolocation I'd personally say they would have normal tongues as there would be no need for the reptilian ability to "Smell" the air and possess echolocation as in most cases the echo location would likely be more potent and likely more useful due to the added details of Numbers, size, and distance as well as direction.

My head cannon imagines it working similar to the Byakugan from Naruto.

Neither the White Mage or Ninja questlines for Heavensward mention any quirky Au Ra traits regarding physiology either. Honestly, they really don't explain much of either Au Ra physiology or culture, besides reinforcing the fact that being Xaela (or Au Ra in general, ambiguous wording ahoy) apparently sucks. :p

It's actually rather heavily implied that au ra are descended from voidsent and hyurian ancestors. The Domans treat Yugiri as a Lady not just because she is a powerful Ninja and leader in her own right, but likely also because the Au Ra live as Oni often do in Japanese folklore, so one that chooses to descend from their misty mountains is a rare treat for the "lowly mortals" of Doma. In addition to this, the Dawn Father and Dusk Mother, assuming that the Raen and Xaela truly do share their characteristics with their origin mythos parents, are likely a hyur or group of hyur that summoned a female voidsent (likely a succubus) or group of voidsent and produced fertile children with them. The fertile children, being neither purely of Hydaelyn or of the Void, likely ended up adapting over the years to Hydaelyn and also likely further diluted their blood by interbreeding with Domans until we got the au ra of today which are closer to hyur than any voidsent we've seen except for succubi, which as we know are often spoken possessed by a succubus-type voidsent.

As for the main topic: No, auri tongues are the same as hyurian tongues which are the same as human tongues.

That's as good a theory as any, but you say "likely" many times and "heavily implied" without any in-game references to back up the theory. What makes you think these things are likely and heavily implied?

As far as I know there's nothing in the lore (outside of what devs said "demon motif") that connects Au Ra with demons/voidsent; whereas Au Ra the official character creation mentions the debate of whether they're related to dragons.

Ishgard also killed Sidurgu's tribe when they 1st arrived thinking they were a new type of heretics/dragons

Funnily enough, I don't know where I saw it, but there was a quote in game that says along the lines of "Scholars believe Miqo'te are descended from cats, but miqo'te scholars vehemently deny such a thing stating xyz"

Description of the fat cat minion. The exact quote is "Despite convincing research by top academics from around the realm and beyond, most Miqo'te scholars refuse to believe that there may be some ancestral connection between their race and cats (fat or not)." Sort of like real-life humans still struggling to believe that we shared a common ancestor with the other great apes.

Perhaps the most apparent reasoning is the scales. Dragons as we've seen throughout all of A Realm Reborn and all of Heavensward have smooth scales that look closer to skin and many true dragons have feathers or serpentine designs. Meanwhile, we have seen quite a few voidsent now with scales, most notably the humanoid Demons (I know, terrible name for a species), Succubi, Gargoyles, Ogres, Taurus(es?), and Vodoriga(s?). All of these humanoid demons possess jagged scales and their scales tend to match their skin tone, features we see in both Raen and Xaela. In addition to this, many voidsent possess horns or spiked crowns on their heads, Au Ra tend to also possess this as a feature. We also see numerous voidsent, both humanoid and not with tails, especially Succubi who share the most apparent biology with the Hyur.

A smaller, but equally important detail is that we have seen that regardless of which rung voidsent occupy in their hierarchy, they tend to fight among themselves for petty reasons. While this may be purely coincidence, the Xaela, who claim to take after the Dusk Mother, are constantly fighting among themselves, be it for land, food, mates, or simply for the hell of it. In addition, the Xaela, who continue to be a strong example, practice what most of Hydaelyn's civilizations would consider "strange and unusual" rituals, which may also be a by-product of their possible voidsent heritage. To further this, the prominent Au Ra we have seen in the various stories, both Raen and Xaela, easily give into negative emotions or desires, particularly the "deadly sin" of pride. We have also seen moments of three of the other six appear, Mide has an almost obsession with getting back her Enigma Codex, to the point she could easily be seen as wanting it for greed, especially since she introduces herself as treasure hunter. Meanwhile, Sidurgu is exceptionally wrathful, to the point that it blinds him; Yugiri, although less wrathful, is easily driven to fury at injustices, especially during the quest "Keeping the Flame Alive." Lastly, we have lust, which while not as blatant as wrath, greed, or pride, is very apparent with the longing looks and cool demeanor that the men and women regularly show through emotes, both sexes are very outwardly sexual, and while they're not acting sexually, they lean towards mannerisms that appeal to a general populace, such as being cute or calmly imposing.

Also, while I have little else to list past these points, it is difficult currently to mention Au Ra in game, since what we have seen so far is mostly in the territory of spoilers for Job story lines, Alexander's (possibly interesting) story line, and the Main Scenario. We haven't seen many NPCs yet, so most of what we're working on is currently speculation and a few notable examples.

The words "theory," "likely," and "heavily implied" are thrown around... very loosely, shall we say, on internet message boards.

Aside from Ferne stating that the Au Ra were designed to be aesthetically similar to some demons, there's nothing to support such a theory beyond whatever people want to pull out of the few things we know about their history.

Thanks for taking the time to answer (and I wouldn't sweat it too much if you have to post spoilers on the lore forums, but there's also the spoiler tag if you need it), but I think you're reasoning is too circumstantial to amount to anything beyond idle speculation. The fact that some voidsent have scales is no evidence that they're related to other scaled creatures. Some beastmen have scales, but we wouldn't guess that they're the originators of the Au Ra race. Some beast tribes have hair and pointy ears, but that doesn't mean they're descendants of Elezeen.

Likewise, voidsent fighting among each other and Au Ra fighting among each other is no evidence of a connection. Huge numbers of living creatures also fight among their own (including all of the other species with higher intellect that we've encountered). You're also making a connection between the "deadly sins" and the Au Ra, but again, these traits are present in every species with higher intellect, but even if the Au Ra were an outstanding example of them, what connection is there between these deadly sins and the voidsent in FFXIV?

Voidsent might part of the Au Ra's origins, but if there is evidence that points to this I don't think its in the game yet.
