How do I relinquish my property for 80% refund?

When I go to relinquish the land is says I won't be refunded.

Redeemable from the Resident Caretaker
- 80% of the price paid for the estate grounds.

Well first off this patch won't take place until 3.1 , but other than that; it hasn't been stated whether or not you can 'relinquish for 80%' only that you can simply not use your house for 45 days... Then collect

Wait for 3.1.

After 3.1 don't go to your house for 45 days. No one can go in or leave.

After that your house will be taken and the resident caretaker will have your money.

I wonder if they'll add the option to cash in without waiting the 45 days?

So I better make sure to shore up the bars and chains in my dungeon beforehand?

They should make it so that if you voluntarily relinquish your house, you get a larger refund. 85%? 90%?

Just don't go in to your house until December 25. Nothing says Christmas Day gift like a big wad of moolah.

What would Jesus do?

He'd get up at 3:30am on Christmas morning to rush out and buy a house as soon as the reclaim kicks in, that's what.

I think the 80% refund will have the following effect:
- Players squatting who are trying to sell will have a harder time finding a buyer. Sellers commonly want back their purchase price and then more. So the buyer pays all that and then the purchase price.
- Buyers willing to be flexible with the ward/location will just wait the 45 days to get a plot w/o the "finder's fee"
- The squatters will likely have to accept a lesser "finder's fee" if they get to willingly relinquish and get some gil back (we don't know if that will be an option yet)

How does one squat in a house they own?

I kind of wish they would go ahead and let us relinquish ahead of time. Since housing no longer represents an actual, long term investment for the duration of the game's existence or actual verisimilitude in the world's milieu, I am no longer interested in it.
