Just came back to the game recently, and within 2 days my BlackList is full.... 200 isn't enough.
did you bl every person you came across with? mine isnt full since months and I bl every rmt tell
if you want to blacklist every person on your server there is a workaround: disable the chat
RMT only need to be blacklisted for about 24-48 hours, after that the character goes inactive and they move on to a new one. I flush my blist everyday, it takes 30 seconds.
If you are blacklisting enough players that you have 200 real players on your server blacklisted..........
Or Square could solve the RMT spam and botter issues. WoW allows players to right-click spammer's names and flag them as a spammer (which mutes the person for you and with a few people reporting, mutes the person for everybody until GM reviews the account).
I'm just saying... I LOVE BALMUNG....
Full server don't have RMT spam issues.
You could turn off tells.
Don't kid yourself though, RMT are everywhere!! :O
Granted I bet its nice not getting tells from them all the time but that just means they don't really advertise on your server.
Since it's full all the time I'm sure they instead rely on word of mouth from other players that buy it.
That way they keep most of their bots on the Server and don't get banned for spamming your tells.
On topic though like most have said OP you can usually start deleting them from the top of the list as those are the older bots that they don't use for spam tells anymore.
Disable /tell off of your main chat tab. Create a spam tab, give tell a quiet noise and have it the only thing on that tab. Problem solved.
All I want is a way to highlight multiple names in my blacklist to delete 100 entries quickly......
FF14 is the only MMO I've ever played where BlackList maintenance is part of my weekly routine. Personally, I'd rather a proper system be put in place to deal with RMTers rather than a BlackList size increase.
It doesnt matter what the limit is, even if it was 1000 it will still get full. They don't know how to deal with RMT so this will keep going, you have to switch to a spam free data center (JP) to get away from it. as i can black list an rmt and 4 weeks later they are still there.
Banned RMT don't vanish from blist, you just have to guess if they are gone or not.
Don't add RMT to your blacklist, report and ignore them (not easy I will grant you) but if you fill your BL with them, you will have to maintain your BL regularly to keep it from getting full. It's more effective to report the RMT anyway.
Now, if only SE would listen to the united voice of the players and add a right click menu item to Report as SPAM in-game.
Yea,. that's even more annoying, "report and ignore" does not work, i used to report them daily, days later, still there, spamming. you can't NOT blist them, or they will just spam you, all day, every day, go afk, come back with the same tells from the same rmt, 10 times over. ignoring is the worst thing you can do unless you turn off your tells entirely. or busy status 24/7, i ended up not reporting as much anymore as the routine does not change and they are allowed to still the damage for as long as possible regardless.
This is exactly what I did. That, and I created a linkshell for friends that aren't in my FC. I will check my /tells tab on occasion, but it's normally just more Gil spam.
Alternatively, you could move the /tells tab into a smaller window all on its own (still muted, of course) so that you could still see whether or not you were missing messages from other players without having it eat up your main chat box.
No matter how you choose to go about it, there is a way around filling up your blacklist. And as someone said in a another similar thread, the spammers seem to migrate, so you might not have the problem for too long. Last time I commented on RMT, I was being bombarded by so many that I couldn't report them all and play at the same time. Today, it was dead quiet for several hours, not a single RMT message. Then I got 2-3 messages, exactly the same, at the exact same time. All perfectly worded, properly punctuated, and with no numbers thrown in.
Truth be told, I was actually kinda impressed. Annoyed, but impressed.
No thanks.
I think SE needs to do what Blizzard did with diablo 2.
They made a option of a Ignorelist inside the diablo 2 folder they could do the same thing with FFXIV and let us type in what is spammed to us. like the gil sites.
Its just like a filter in game the bots will spam but we wont see it as long as we keep adding text with notepad to the ignorelist.
then you type in the game ignorepersist and it enables the ignorelist filter which is the text inside ffxiv folder.
I thought it was a genius idea by blizzard where you control your own filter gives the power to the player to block spam.
Ironically alot of why rmt are hard to combat in ff14 is alot of the odd behavior, JP servers don't get rmt tell spam only NA/EU servers. Only on a rare moment will you get a /say spammer on tonberry.
Even GM found this odd. Also gm and stf do say to blacklist rmt.
We do need a right click spam report option. hell even @ 2.0 launch spam wasn't bad only got bad like 6 mnths into the game, took a full year to REALLY get bad.
ya don't make any misconceptions, jp has just as much of a bot issue as any server, it just not advertised.
(my guess cuz the devs and the producer actually play anbd no one knows what server they play om , and sending rmt tell spam to yoshida pretty much ya... you pretty much will be banned)
Pro tip, erase the RMT you BL after about 3 days. My BL hasnt even hit past 15 in like almost half a year now.
The only names on my blist are the annoying player casinos. I don't even bother with RMT at this point; it's one of those things where it feels like it's just never going to change, so I just try to tune it out as best I can.
The way I deal with RMT:
1) Don't park your character in the three ARR cities. I notice more RMT when I'm there. Do MB and retainer things in the housing wards instead.
2) Don't BL the spammers. It will cause you more trouble than it prevents.
3) Move tells to a new window. Check it only if it flashes to notify of an unread message.
4) Don't bother reporting spam bots. It wastes your time, which RMT bots are not worthy of.
5) Report actively playing gil buyers and sellers, even if they are your fc buddies. Get their sorry asses banned. They are the reason eu/na is plagued by this garbage and jp isn't. No market - no advertising.
I don't think it matter how many times they increased the size, it will always get full. They have to start Banning and deleting more Accounts so the list doesn't get fill as quick.
Imagine if they increased the number to 1,000. Sure, your main Character will hardly have any RMT tell. But imagine making a new Alts Character. You will have a hell of a time filling that 1,000 size again.
Like I said, increasing the number won't fix the issue.
If you're using your Blacklist for RMT only.....
you should grow some thicker skin, o.o. That's just crazy XD
The gil spammers don't use the same account for long, so like others have said, if you clear your blacklist every 3 days or so, you won't get tells again from those accounts.
How many tells are you getting though OP? If you wait 3 days to clear, is it going to be a ton of accounts to clear?
I really have no idea, that's why I'm asking... Before this week, I've only got 1 RMT spam since like April this year, and maybe seen 1 spam in /say chat. This week I've gotten 2, because the population have dipped while everyone is waiting for 3.1.
The reason I brought that up, was like someone else mentioned, the Japan servers doesn't seem to have any problem either, and we all know that SE listens more when it comes to them. If they had a problem with it, they would probably have come up with a better way to handle the spam by now.
