Help with SMN aoe

Hi I just want some advice for summoners aoe rotation and abilities. I have been playing around with the abilities and trying to come up with ways to maximize the aoe dps. I seem to ways have trouble in dungeons and have gotten kicked a few times for pulling hate and not using quelling strikes. Even when I do use it and do aoe it is still not enough. Currently my aoe looks like this...

Garuda-Egi: quelling strikes, rouse, aerial slash, swiftcast, tri-disaster, shadowflare, bane, painflare, blizzard, miasma II, finally fester(second enemy), save last aetherflow to repeat process.

Can someone please give me advice on how to do aoe properly and some advice on how not to pull hate when doing this.

Note: I am only 57(lvl) and I do not have access to Dreadwyrm Trance or Deathflare. Thanks for any advice you can give.

it seems to me like you're doing fairly well. I would skip Fester and use only Painflares for AoE pulls though.

I don't see Raging Strikes in there though. If you pull aggro without it, then the problem is even weirder. If you're pulling aggro as summoner when using Quelling Strikes, it's honestly the tanks fault, and not yours. When I tank and see a summoner in the party, I know I've got to focus on aggro before damage.

Anyway, keep at it. They'll learn :p

Also I only save last aetherflow if I do not fester the second enemy because dot timers are done and need to be refreshed.

those tanks just stink. and sometimes you're going to pull hate, they should be able to get it back before you die.

do you not Contagion before Bane? not every pack lasts long enough but most do. it's usually a good idea to pair Tri-Diaster with Contagion.

You arent using the extended DoTs there, are you?
Then you might as well use Ifrit, since 3 of its skills are useful for AoEing (yes Im counting Ekindle)

Another thing you could do is throw your DoTs like normally at the beginning, bane them and when they are wearing down, use Tri-Disaster for a second Bane. IF they are still very alive and kicking, that is.

You shouldn't use Fester, after all, the idea is to AoE, and you dont have Dreadwyrm or Deathflare, so no rush either. Just wait up for another Painflare or a second Bane.

Im no pro but if u like i would share my mob rota with u too ^^

On most of the standartmobs i use following skills: Rouse 1, Swiftcast+Shadowflare, Trisaster+Infection (Garuda), Bane+Aerial Slash, Miasma 2, Painflare & Fester, Virus (+Bahamut-Trance, Ruin 3 spam, Deathflare), Rouse 2+ Enkindle :)

You can spam Blizz for Bahamut-Skills if u havent unlock them yet, only thing to remember is that u have to stay inside the mob watching out for enemies aoes ^^

if you wanna some extra damage on AoEing... try to use Brizzard during the period of the dots... its faster and have better potency than SMN AoE skill ( forgot its name... it was try-disaster on 2.X)

1. Normally in a hand of a capable tank I won't recommend quelling strikes, you might put raging strikes instate since smn won't pull to much aggro until you start doing painflare. At that moment a good tank will able to grab all the mob aggro tightly and should be no problem and it will be good until you do deathflare (once you got a hand on it). And since you will normally use garuda in AoE situation like dungeons mob so DO NOT forget Contagion 15 sec longer DoTs means 5 more ticks so you might want to add it after tri-disaster and wait before it on the target before you bane

shadowflare always take time to cast even with swiftcast and should be the opener if possible.

Another idea is to create a macro that tie your AoE skill with garuda's aerial slash so every time you use an AoE skill garuda will always do aerial slash when it's avilable .

Yet another idea is to tie tri-disaster with Contagion too. tested not a good idea since when you use it as opener garuda will not use contagion for some reason :p and there are chance that garuda will not use contagion in mid rotation so... I would recommend apply this manualy

anyway once you play with smn a lot you will find out all these will always be situational depends on which skill available, how long will your aetheralflow cool down complete, how much time do you have in your dreadwarm trace stance and how good is your tank (really this will be the most important :p )

This will work but the /wait command must be long enough... probalbly u will lose some dps but i use this macro to save shortcutspots (playing on PS4).

Lol yea quelling strikes will save your butt in DF, once you hit 60 but before then tanks shouldn't have a real issue with your AOEs.

Make sure you are using raging strikes it will really help I've been kicked for doing some pretty nasty deathflares and ripping everything from the tank including their soul so be careful SMNs becomes BLM 4.0 at 60 lol XD but a good tank will not need quelling strikes in your rotation.

Awesome advice and thanks everyone. I just got DWT last night so it was a shocker to see the dmg increase. If only for 15sec lol. The burst does get really nasty in terms of dmg output at higher levels for smn as I am learning consistenly. At least that is what I am seeing.

I DO like to use that GODLIKE DWT like we did when we are in that job quest. In reality it doesn't that godlike :p
