the next set is currently in development. 3.2 (not official date) just a estimated guess.
Well, I want Hilda. That voice... those RRRRRRRs...
:)
Whoever decided a mixed-blood Elezen / Midlander should have an Irish Accent, though... well hey, it doesn't have to make sense. I love it.
So long as Hildebrand is contained within his own set of side quests I don't mind seeing more of him...but I do hope his popularity doesn't cause the game as a whole to shift in a direction that directly caters his sort of 'humour'. The game just wouldn't be the same for me if it did. I'd quite like to see him killed off at some point - to prevent stagnation and to ensure that there's room for a different set of side quests.
/grumbles about losing certain people again.
Hildebrand's popularity is that he is comic relief. RELIEF. I don't see the need to off him because he does what he's supposed to. There is no need to ever do the Hildebrand quests if you don't want to do them. It doesn't seem to me like they'll ever merge into the MSQ outside of, maybe, a quick cameo here and there.
I think the game could use more of those ongoing side stories. They don't all need to be slapstick(ish... The Hildebrand quests got me misty eyed once or twice too)
Actually, there is. You can't do primal roulette without them, a fact that drove me mad in the past since I just HATE that guy.
Seriously, I could do without him completely. Really hope they take their time with the next set of quests, or at least don't make them mandatory for duty roulettes again.
I'd like to see Hildibrand return too. His comic relief questline was one of my favorite things about 2.x, and arguably very necessary considering how tense things often were following the MSQ in the patch cycle.
Now, I can understand not liking Hildibrand, but that's no reason to kill him. Retire his character, sure, but there is no need or reason to outright kill him beyond shock value. Killing doesn't really fit the tone of Hildibrand's story anyway. I wouldn't mind if they did a different comic relief questline in 3.x since I don't want Hildibrand's character to get tired, but I too would like to see him return at some point.
... and while the Battle on the Big Bridge, Dragon's Neck, and the Battle in the Big Keep are required to unlock Trial Roulette, I don't really feel Trial Roulette is even necessary. You can max out your weekly endgame tokens in 6 days just doing Expert Roulette, and without MSQ to do and Alexander Normal finished that's all I have to do anyway...
...
I have Trial Roulette without having done any of the Hildibrand quests.
Actually, I have a few friends who only recently begun doing the Hildibrand questlines, and they've been able to do Trial Roulettes for the longest time. I'd imagine Hildibrand trials being a requirement was removed with Heavensward to make stuff a bit less overwhelming for newbies. :p (Yet High Level Roulette unlocking still needs something like 15 dungeons to run through... Truly, Squeenix is a mysterious mistress.)
But yes, more Hildibrand, less sudden attempted zombie apocalypses! The final set of Hildibrand quests in ARR sure took a weird turn towards Edginess Max™ territory. :(
Or heck, doesn't necessarily have to be Hildibrand. Things like the Postmoogle questline had its fair share of laughs, too. But I guess Hildibrand is the first thing that comes to mind when one mentions comedy in FFXIV! :p
And I guess Hildibrand is the only real source of "So bad, it's good!" source of humour. :x
Bring back Hildabrand...it is a nice change of pace...In the beginning I never gave it a chance but when urged to buy some FC friends I found I actually enjoy the quest quite a bit. Glad I listened to them and did them...cannot wait for more...come on DEVS more Hildy when you can please.
I'd probably enjoy it more if the developers outright stated that what happens to Hildibrand isn't reflective of the setting as a whole. Far too many people are referencing his antics as an excuse to avoid any and all dangerous situations. There's also a lot of comic relief elsewhere in the game that isn't so...blatant or over the top. I suppose it's largely a cultural thing to some degree though.
I don't think Hildy will die, considering who his parents are and all the stuff he's endured, I feel as though he's nigh indestructable at this point. That being said, bring him back as a side character, after the ending of the current HW stuff and the most likely dark content that we are mostly likely to get after said ending? The game could use some comic relief as a side quest here and there, something to "cleanse the pallet" before we dive back in to more dark/edgy stuff.
I also happen to think Hildy is awesome, he's probably my favorite NPC next to Jandelaine.
