PLD GLOW/AURA?

simple. War has a really cool WRATH animation that seems like he's turning SUPERSAYAN, DRK has a cool Dark GLOW that show that you are emanating darkness out of you before they will even had this dark flames around then witch if they did still having it it would have been amazing....meanwhile PLD it just as boring as the class "my opinion."

PLD are supposed to be the "magical" class of the tank DRK being his opposite yet WAR looks more magical than PLD. so the question is, WHY pld does not have a glow/aura?
seriously some time I think SE hate pally and this is not a rant just to add up with all the other problems regarthing PLD is just something that I saw from another poster in another threat and I just want to know peoples's opinion or ideas for a glow/aura for pld

Yea mang PLD should be a holy knight not just a regular old boring stick with a shield

Paladins are Elite Guards of the Sultana in this games lore, not magic/holy knights. That said, They should have an aura on some of their buffs I think.

nanana don't give me that, I did had to lvl up a conjurer to get my PLD and we do in fact do have magic abilities like Clemency, the oaths, flash, we can cast cures and stone skins even protects... so PLD are magical tanks... on this FF and on every FF they just manage to make it the worst time of PLD of all ff, cannot even block magic that IMO a SHIELD should block more than a GreatSword when it comes to magic, idk where but i remember a knight covering himself from a fire breathing dragon with the shield to block the fire from burning him, which is not such a difficult concept to think about when it comes to block.

I would actually like for them to change the stance animations. Maybe make our weapon/ shield glow and also make a seperate animation for shield/sword.

you manage to make PLD even worse looking lmao, the are "holy knight of the sultan....something" that's how i will describe them I know in their definition says they are bodyguards but that's just boring.

They could make our sword glow whiteish though it may conflict with weapon glow effects already present on the weapon/shield. Still, I think Oaths should have some kind of pale white radiance. Maybe shield oath can have a glow, with angel feather particle effects, and sword oath can have a whiteish flame effect.

Also, pretty sure the intro PLD level 30 quest refers to "Amongst the elite soldiers, swordsmen gladiators and knights of Ul'dah, the Paladins are unmatched" (paraphrased). I unlocked PLD recently, and I remember reading how PLD=Knight in JP, and when I saw this cutscene I wondered if it was translated differently, since if in JP PLD=Knight, the sentence wouldn't make sense unless there was some distinction between regular old Knights, and the Knight job that the WoL becomes. PLD was used in FF4 and FFT as a distinct class apart from regular Knights...I wonder why they went with a vanilla knight with FFXI and FFXIV (though, FFXI's PLDs were far more Holy than FFXIV's PLD, even though they too were called 'naito' in JP. In FFXI, PLD could use most White Magic, Cure I-IV, Holy, Protect, Shell, and also had unique spells like Enlight which added a a potent, but gradually decreasing additional damage effect to every autoattack, and Reprisal, which increased shield block rate substantially, and automatically reflected a portion of blocked damage back at the target for the spell's duration).

I think an aura is justifiable for Divine Veil, it would serve as a visual indicator for healers: see a blue-white aura on the PLD? Toss him a heal to trigger the Veil buff.

And that's just assuming Divine Veil is otherwise not altered. If it were, regardless I think the heal-trigger effect is the right place for an aura, since it's about providing visual communication to other players, and not just a glamour-glitter-moar-sparkles-plz, I must look fabulous.

visual indicator might also be applied to indicate when we are in sword oath and shield oath will help indicate healers what stances we are on so they can prepare heals accordingly to our stances, which can just be use with the help of a macro but still I wouldn't mind a visual indicator for that.

Well in Japan the class is simply 'Knight' Gleen from this what you may >.>

I guess we will have to wait get a BRIGH KNIGHT to get a true paladin didn't knew in japan was just "KNIGHT" if that was the true name in the english version there would not have been so many confusions I guess.... despite they being similar to a PALADIN using white magic as a tank....

This doesn't mean they are only body guards only that they have functioned as such for a long time. They still have magical abilities so why not give them a functional but stylish aura. Think the Holy shield Nexus it had that kind of magic barrier/shield on top of it. Why not make one that applies to their sword or shield and gives a constant party buff? As Ercapote said they could work as visuals for the party also.

Even from a lore perspective, a PLD aura can be explained. Actually, it would sort of make sense because:

Heavensward Job Quest for PLD is specifically about returning the aura to Oathkeeper, and Syl-what's-his-name uses Constraint & the Warrior of Light to further this goal. In the end, the Sword will only glow for the Warrior of Light, who passes it along to what's-his-name so he can strive to make it glow for himself. The glow (ie the Oathkeeper) is actually the Soulstone and the Paladin whom carries it, not the sword itself. This is why the Sword glows for the Warrior of Light and not the others. The WoL themself is an Oathkeeper (ie a Paladin better than the rest, free or Sultansworn).

Actually then considering this: a real lore-friendly approach would have been Royal Authority to be the lvl58 skill, and Divine Veil being the lvl60 (with an Aura FX attached). I say this because the 'magical' abilities of Paladin - Clemency & Divine Veil - seem to be drawn from the Soulstone, and are abilities only the WoL PLD can perform (Constraint and Syl-what's-his-name use Spirit's Without and some other ability similar to Clemency, but with a different name)

Liking this one.

since pld's have flash, and can cast holy spells i think they should radiate an aura that is so bright it hurts everyone elses eyes except the pld's because he/she uses a brightness dampener over his monitor so he/she doesn't go blind or constantly have pld tracers in real life

no offense but people who complain about the drk aura where just being little whinny babies, seriously who gets bothered by just a cool effect? i just want to look as bad ass as any other of my tanks...

Or maybe not everyone finds such a silly visual effect 'cool' like you do, but totally annoying? No offense.

Of course if there was a way to turn off the visual effect in the Config it wouldn't be a problem, but otherwise I know I myself would be really annoyed if SE added some stupid gimmicky glowing effect on my armour 'just to make me look all holy and stuff'. I'm a knight damnit, not a reject from Twilight! ;)

Seriously though, I'm fine with with such an idea as long as SE allowed players who wanted to 'opt out' of such an effect by being able to deactivate the visual effect in Config, as that way everyone is happy! :)

*And even then we're not even technically true PLDs anyway, but just GLAs who wear a fancy crystal that allows us to quickly master a few skills used by real PLDs, but my point still stands. ;)

I have to agree with Enkidoh. If they someday add anything like this to PLD I'll be seriously disappointed. I like my PLD as is, without these "look at me" auras.

We have glowing swords, shields and armors. In my opinion it would be a better alternative if you just glamour them to be a walking disco instead of changing the visuals of a job that some of us like the way it is :P Or just use a WAR or a DRK.

Meh. I actually find Darkside to be annoying as hell, specially in town, and would love the ability of turning off the animation. I'd rather not see this.

Be quiet. DRK was supposed to get a black flame. Instead we get swirling red mist that's barely noticeable where a number of people have stated it hurts their eyes. Not to mention SE used a weak a?? Excuse saying it would look weired while moving or on a mount. When they could have easily fixed this by making the effect disabled when out of combat.

As iv said. Be quiet.

if it is "barely" noticeable, then it cannot be annoying or interrupt you in any way or for (that people don't like it that's another thing). what people fail to realize is that it serves as a visual indicator of your DARKSIDE stance which I find it pretty useful. Same as it will be useful to have a visual indicator for the oaths or divine veil.

I have issues with the Darkside Aura, but it has less to do with the visual of the Aura but more that it is not the traditional sort of CD where you'd get one. Off-topic slightly but considering yal are discussing this,

I consider other Jobs' Auras.

Greased Lightning, Wrath Stacks, and Blood of the Dragon are the three different Auras that come to my mind. All three are IMO justified Auras, and they wear-off when not fighting. SE's comment about the Blue Flames effect looking bad when mounted I agree with - since these other three Auras also look funky mounted (especially Infuriated, less so GL), but the difference between these Auras/Buffs and Darkside is the former will dissipate soon after mounting (since you're out of combat - they wear off), but Darkside won't. Darkside actually does the opposite of fall-off when out of combat.

I like the tease SE offered with regard to the blue flames in the last Q&A. A Blue Flames Aura could be added to DRK in the future, but they'll be assigned to a different CD/Mechanic. Whatever that CD/Mechanic may be, having that combined with Darkside for the 'desired' Aura visual people want - I like that - especially if it's a CD/Mechanic that works like the others I mentioned - requiring combat in order to maintain.

Anyways, I like Auras IF* they're in good taste and IF* there is a rhyme-and-reason to their purpose. If PLD had a Spell/WS that required in-combat use to maintain, I think that Spell/WS would make for a justifiable Aura. Right now though Divine Veil's healing trigger requirement seems to make the most sense. Auras for just standing around AFK? I'd prefer not, not unless there's some in-combat requirement to maintain it so that it will otherwise wear off.

But different strokes for different folks.

I imagine its because it can be barely noticeable that people are saying it hurts their eyes. Also lots of people are complaining about how weak PLD is in end game opinion sure but all the threads mean that something may be wrong. And your situation is to add an aura?

You made a comment about how people are acting like whiny baby's about DRK Darkside aura. When there wer lots of people complaint about it.
