Change it back to action queueing or I am going to quit!

Hey Devs,

You have totally destroyed the rhythm and flow of battle and you need to fix it or that is it I will finally give up on this game. What is worse than queueing up and action? Nothing, as in nothing happening when I press a button, that is in fact worse than the queueing system the game had prior to 1.19. Did you guys even test this?

***update*** I initially posted this after my 1st real log-in after the update. I was on my 50 ARC and an LS member asked for help with his rank 34 quest, he kept getting killed getting to Mor Dona. I teleported him to Mor Dona and was going to escort him to the ???s near the Black Shroud zone.

My first post 1.19 combat was as a 50 archer against a 50 hog, I killed it but depleted 50% of my MP, and also noticed even when my character finished it's action's animations there was still a good sec or more where another action would not proc and I'd get a message saying it wouldn't. The LS member aggro'd a 53 Hog and I pulled it off him, but he kept running and this one hit me harder than the 1st hog, it got to the point where my cure IIs and sacrifice IIs weren't keeping up with the damage the hog was doing and I died. Still combat seemed wrong, really wrong. I was having to hit an action button 3-4 times after the previous action had completed before my intended action would trigger.

I returned and teleported back changed to 50 LNC and went to find the LS-mate who by then had been killed by an Eye. I killed the 52 Eye that had killed him and raised him. Proceeded to escort him killing some more eyes on the way all the while being totally dissatisfied with the way there was so much apparent lag in combat and actions not triggering even when my character was standing still.

I logged that night and didn't play the next day, but that next night I checked the forums and numerous other people reported that there had been lag in combat and actions were not triggering even when their characters were standing still but it had cleared up.

I logged in and checked, ran out and fought something as LNC. It was no long as bad it had been. I thought that first night was what we were stuck with. IT isn't as bad now as I had thought although is still sucks. Yup I still don't like it, it is not fluid and I thank the 12 I am not a DoM.

You could, you know, do what humans do best and ADAPT.

And here I thought OP was a THM that was mad they couldn't Siphon MP from a dead mob. Meh.

Adaptation is necessary in humans. In a video game it is not. You have the choice to simply stop playing.

Well I just died because of the new casting system, it is not adapting we need to do... how do you adapt to something that is broken?

If they do not want to bring back action queueing then at least sort out cast bars and recast timers to show the REAL cast time.

We need to start casting after the previous spell has finished.... how do we know the previous spell has finished, should we just wait for a second after the animation has finished because sometimes even that is not long enough to wait before we can cast another spell. It does not even say we can not cast yet, it just let's us think "hey where's the spell I cast?" then you realize the spell was not cast and by the time you cast again you are dead because the enemies have gotten 2 more hits on you.

I would not say "I'm going to quit" but it really hurts seeing the broken cast timers and recast timers still here after such an amazing update (all but the new casting system =P)

Yes, devs, fix this "broken" system so he won't quit! Base your decisions on him!

The system is fine. I don't "wipe" because of it.

No it is not fine, it is broken... not the fact you can't queue but everything else about it is

it is playable yes, but that does not make it "fine"

Edit: I know that they have not finished with the casting system yet, so although it is annoying as hell I know if I wait it will be FIXED =3

I have experienced nothing wrong with it. I can still do my role just fine.

Broken for some, not for others.

I can play the game even with the broken abilitys and delay on every acction made. still doesnt change fact its not that much fun.

I'm not sticking up for either party here, both seem to be a bit immature.

But I will say that I think everything would be fine and dandy if we could still queue up an ability in the middle of an unrelated ability.
Nobody would burst into fire if I didn't have to sit there and pray I got the timing perfect with a reaction style ability. Even competitive fighting games have a buffer, seems odd to remove it entirely from a latency prone MMORPG.

This game needs a lot of optimization.

That is a bandwidth meter more than a latency meter.

Its only telling you how much information is coming in and going out.

Actually I am experiencing similar problems as the OP;
I'm not so dramatic about it, but I agree that the change
left an annoying amount of re-presses necessary to

There is a serious problem with the current implementation. You don't really have to wait for the animation to finish, by simply mashing down the button multiple times, you can rapdily fire off multiple abilities. But, then you spend your entire time mashing down buttons which is NOT OK.

There is a very simple train of logic that will get you to various methods of implementation.

First, do you want to interrupt animations or allow them to play out before being able to use your next ability.

If you allow interruption, you can have the instant style play without action ques, but then gameplay looks choppy as player animations are consistently interrupted and followed by a distinctly different animation.
*NOTE* THIS IS COMPLETELY ARBITRARY CHOICE THAT RELIES SOLELY ON PLAYER AND DEVELOPER PREFERENCE

So, if the choice is that the choppy gameplay is undesireable, then the only solution is to force players to sit through and watch animations. This is the next important choice:

Either have players sit and wait for animations to finish before allowing them to successfully input commands OR allow them to que their actions.

That said, for me the choice is so obvious . My first choice is to have smooth gameplay without animations being interrupted, my second choice is to allow queing of actions, because I do not like sitting around waiting for each skill to finish before I input the next skill.


The entire debate here lies on these two arbitrary choices. And they both are merely preferences. The queing of actions CAN be an addition optional configuration given to the players, but for balance reasons, the interruption of animations must be settled globally.

So if you wanted to present a completely clear representation of where the community lies you would need to make a poll of the following:

Do you want to actions to interrupt the animations of previous actions to allow for more fast-paced combat, or do you want to wait for actions to complete to allow for smoother/less choppy animations/gameplay.

If you want fast paced combat, then there's not much else to say, input would be instantaeneous, while animations would interrupted.

If you want animations to complete, the you have two choices:

1. Allow queing of skills
2. Wait for each skill to finish before input of the next skill

Nothing else has any relevancy whatsoever.

The animation lock is good, it creates a more challenging game, where players don't just spam 1-2 abilities over and over. It actually requires you to think and create your own ability rotation system to maximize your current job. Perfect example of this new challenge is on ifrit battle. If your a dps class for example spamming your abilities mindlessly you will die, cause ifrit will cast his ground attack and you will get stuck in animation thus not having enough time to move out of the way, solution is to think, use your noodle, as in yes use abilities but when ifrits window opens up for ground attack, don't spam your abilities but build your tp with auto attack, than when ifrit does his ground attack , you can move out of the way cause your not stuck in animation, than run back and burst damage using your tp. People just need to adjust, the game is not meant to be easy, boring spam spam ability type game......

So I know this was talking about the whole being unable to queue ability thing (which threw me off at first when I logged in 1.19 for the first time, not even gonna lie) but since the whole animation thing was mentioned...

You can definitely still interrupt your animations if the skill has gone off. I can't tell you how many times I've used Pummel in the middle of Simian Thrash's animation. There's no way in hell I'd use it if I had to wait for 9 flashy hits to go off first.

Animation locking is fine for physical skills because you just wait for the flashy effects.

But waiting 3 seconds to cast a fire spell than an additional 1.5 seconds so my character raises his hand is retarded. You either make the spell near instant with a long animation or a casted spell with an animation you can skip.

Animation locking is the only thing that make Ifrit (hard) hard. But I'm not sure if that's the intention.
