Committing to grind all the way to 60 to try all the skills and realize I wasted my time because tanking with X class or healing with X class just didn't feel "right". GW has the login to max level and the idea for trying out a class is really good.


-side note, it would be cool to pvp your friends using a duel system. (This probably has already been asked)

Ok going to assume your serious here.. hopefully I am not wrong in that assumption.

Trying out any class at 60 your most likely not going to enjoy it, get a feel for what it can or be any good with it. Why? The experience of leveling through dungeons/fates/quests lets you slowly get introduced to your new skills and abilities, allows you to learn when and how to use them properly. A try out system would be counter productive and would likely push more people away then bring in simply because jumping into any class right at 60 would feel confusing for most people, they would have no idea what to do.. if they did a try out dungeon and got grouped with people who also didn't know what they were doing, they would likely encounter wipes, frustration, and most likely trolling.

What I can say is this.. don't play a class hoping that it will get better if you just don't like it within the first 30 levels. Getting your job abilities will mostly(not always but mostly) add cooldowns to buff/improve skills you already have. So if your not enjoying it by then, try something else out until you find something you really enjoy.

As far as a duel system goes, I don't see any downsides but I don't PvP very often so I guess someone with more experience with that would have a better answer.

Edited because I forgot to include the advanced character creation part, but I can agree that being able to see more emotes when creating your character would be nice.

While it's hard to judge a class at say, level 20, I think you can have a good idea if you would like that class or not... "committing to the grind" is part of the game.

Though the first part of your idea (emotes etc), yeah that'd be cool.

Being a level 60 class means the game assumes you went through the long learning process to get there and know how to play it. Trying to jump into a level 60 class without having touched it ever or only being a few levels into it will probably not warm you up to the idea of playing it because it'll feel too difficult and/or overwhelming. The learning curve would be too steep especially with some of the more complicated roles.

You can try out level 60. Level the class~

Trying out a class in a training zone sounds great, because think of the people who are already 60 on that class and want the ability to practice their mechanics in dungeon play solo.

Also, it would be great to build hype, drop in a mostly finished class a patch before unveiling, let the players run the numbers and do the theory crafting for the devs to tweak before it hits live.

Also, despite what people want to believe it really truly doesn't take that long to learn a class if you do a little research. Which is something you should be doing once you hit 60 anyways. If you make a point to read all the tooltips, figure out possibilities of how skills pertain to each other then it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to to be able to at least play the class with some efficiency. Give it a couple of days and there's no reason you shouldn't be playing at the top of your game.

Using more emotes during character creation is a good idea


But "trying out" level 60 is not. Just level the damn class. You will never know how to use all your skills if you don't build your knowledge through leveling.

If this were available, no one would ever choose Dragoon...

You can't just pick up a rotation that complicated and appreciate it, without putting the time in to learn it's different aspects on the way up.

Appreciate the sentiment, but disagree with the idea. The classes are waaay too complex now for this to help players decide.

I always thought that it would be a great idea to implement a very low level quest that showcases your higher level abilities. I.e: your level 15 quest puts you in an echo-trance where you either get to use all (or up to lv50) abilities, or shows an NPC using them. The platform genre does this a lot, where you either fight something that demonstrates how far you have to go to achieve their strength, or you have the abilities but they're taken away. I think it'd be a great way to show a newbie how much room you have to grow, and also showcase the difference between now and where you will be eventually.

For emote options, I'd like if they at least just added the grunt your character makes when swinging their sword/axe/spear etc (since it's 90% of the voice SFX you'll hear).

First I find a voice with a /cheer I like, create character, watch cutscenes swooning over my new toon, finally then when start killin those ladybugs outside the gate and ugh re-roll

There is a grunt in the current emotes, but I think it's the SFX for when you take fall damage or something else.. it's not the WeaponSkill SFX faik

I agree with the extra character creation options. Also, having the full gamut of emotes would help us determine if we like a voice better than another. Cant tell you how many times I've made a character and got in game only to realize I cant stand the voice I chose because the other emotes weren't available in the character creator to test it out.

Agreed, on the level 60 and instant skills. You want to see a real example of that check out the Game Grumps WoW challenge they did, people who never even played it were given the max level you could buy and it was a nightmare to watch, almost cringe worthy.

Training Zone:

Cannot leave Training Zone. Allows you to create a character with a level 55 class in full ilvl 150 armor. Cannot leave the training zone.

The entire zone is a dream. When you log out your character is deleted. You also cannot name the character. However you can customize it's voices but that is it.

Class/Race/Voice is all you can pick.

Enhance Character Creation is okay, but the Tryout is not okay. It could become disappointment and you won't level your character again and it looks like spoiling the end content IMO.

I would agree that the character creation screen could use some expansion to test if you like your character in multiple situations (A light room would be nice for multiple angles of lighting), but I don't think testing a class right at sixty is really a good idea.

Classes are only really fun after you learn the proper rotations and what not anyways, so testing a class at sixty without any of this knowledge could give a false first impression to the class and how one would feel about it.

No, because as others have said the grind teaches you how to use the job. People are mindless enough as it is because of FATE spamming to 50/60.

This. I ran totorak a few days ago with a level 42+ DRK who couldn't tank. Despite me saying to unleash more and do his hard slash spinning slash power slash combo (enmity combo, i may have one or two names wrong). Was ripping hate from yhe tank, so started half assing my combos and still took hate. The bard was as well, and we both would end up tanking a mob just to save the astrologian.

I don't think she mean you'll get to instantly play with a lvl 60 character in real content.
just in the demo map to see how the class plays at max level.
you'll still have to play from 1-60 in the real content.

People get insta lvl capped characters at the PAX/Fan Fest/Insert Convention Here Primal Challenges, they seem to do fine. I'd love a space to test out a 60, even if just to sample casting animations of a particular race. Nobody's saying to let then into general populous, but a sealed instance to thwack around a dummy of two, maybe a dumbed down primal, or something.

Yes to more emotes in creation and we really need to have a "battle voice" thing..where you can hear what your character sounds like in battle...some voices dont have a battle voice, others have amazing ones, the remainder have horrid ones >.<

I actually really miss this feature from GW2. You got to see what was in store before you committed, even though the point was completely different. You had ai dummy's to practice against so you could get a feel for the class at max level before going into PVP, but that didn't stop me from seeing if I was going to like it or not at max level. While the leveling experience can teach you how to play your class, a lot of us can simply look at the skill set and go "Oh, that's how it'll play." but it's the "How will it feel" that can matter more.

But I highly doubt we'll get that, and it's not an issue. I would push harder for more emotes and features in character creation since Glamor and all things glamor related is the true end game.

This would be nice, i would like to add a button that cycles through all the battle voice grunts and shouts to the character creator, that way i dont have to spend 4mins in that introduction cutscene that cant be skipped just to test out what voice i want to choose for the sake of battle, 8+ times until im satisfied with picking a voice.

it would be cool being able just move around , do emotes , however for fighting they could add some skills to char creation screen and let u click to see the animations.(Like Aion)

I'd actually like the ability to test our other classes as well. Of course, only in a training area with a dummy or three designed purely for testing not dropping you into the live game. Sure it would remove the natural learning process but the OP is right in saying that you just don't know how a class feels to play at higher levels until you've actually done it. And if it was purely a test situation I don't see the lack of experience being a real issue. It would just be a controlled solo environment and once you selected the class you'd have to start at level 1 just like everyone else.

The suggestion to duel people was pretty nice too, SWTOR had it and it was pretty cool. I would however prefer to take it to a grander scale and have strongholds similar to that of ESO where Grand Companies try to wrest control of the stronghold from the other. I think it would add a nice change of pace to the typical routine of Dungeon, Story Quest, FATE grind, and so forth. Of course there would have to be sanctioned PvP areas where these strongholds would be located.

To clarify on some points:

The level 60 tryout would just be for character animations, running, walking, practice rotations, beating on a dummy, (Some of you had good idea's on that one). I am leveling the dark knight right now, and the more I play it the more I HATE how they hold their sword in front of them like they are charging rather than to the side... Most importantly for me is how the tails move, how they hop or run from point A to point B, how they jump ect...

We can expand this idea even further and in this special character creation tryout, you can try all the armor sets that the game has to offer, mix and match and build your favorite glamour... That way end game you know exactly how you want to look.

I understand some people don't want to "tarnish" the experience and try out a level 60 but not everyone has the time to commit to leveling everything until they like it.

The DRK stance is actually a real defensive stance when using a two handed sword. Tho it's not recommended to stand in that stance forever like Dark Knights do, it's still a valid stance you can take when you're preparing to parry an attack. And I find it pretty accurate for a tanking class.

So if I remove which skill, Grit or Darkside? I thought I had the sword on my side at one point but couldn't replicate it, I thought it was because of a different length sword lol

I would love to be able to preview all the emotes and animations in character creation. Instead, I have to make a new character, and then use fantasia to test out each voice. Good thing I have 11 fantasia on every new character I make. :P

This would be great as well. A friend of mine discovered that, while a voice they chose sounded great with emotes, the battle grunts were disgusting. Every grunt sounded like she was going to be sick, lol.

Now I do admit, some people do go based off of looks alone, so perhaps letting a level 1 see what their max level armor will look like may intrigue them more so or get them excited for the job/class.

I wouldn't be opposed to a test server. Ultima Online ran these a lot. They'd let you set your skills (equivalent of levels in this game) at whatever you wanted and let you test the new changes. It let you get an idea of what something was like before you wasted your time on it. And then the test server would get wiped, disappear for a while, and pop back up when the next update was rolling around. It was never a permanent replacement for a production server.

I would rather have them add a marathon to golden saucer than all of that stuff.

Running jumping hurdles, 100 yard dash, swimming, golf, rope climbing whoever reaches top first based off stamina bar.

arm wrestler, dice game, snow ball fight, not waste anything testing rather have fun.
