Bestiary anyone?

I floated this idea around a different forum and had some positive feedback so I figured I'd try see what you guys feel about it.

Basically a resource for the enemy you killed, maybe even how many, that includes the locations it's in and drops you get. If possible add some lore on it.

It might not work with current limitations, but perhaps once 4.0 hits? What do you guys think?

That would be pretty awesome, especially if they included lore, I've always been a fan of the creature lore in FF games

I am totally supporting this. The lore would be a great add, keeping up with how many we have killed is nice (might give us reasons to quit spamming certain areas) and the addition of a way to cross check creature drops would be really nice.

I'd love being able to look up some lore tidbits on each of the game's enemies. We have it for fish we've caught. Why not for creatures we've battled?

I'd rather have something like this in a book format showing what is where, the possible drop rate on items the monsters/mob carries more so then an in game thing. Having it personalized as an add-on type deal would give skewed results.. well percentages are generally skewed anyways, but if its in a book format then its available to everyone with the same data in it, also having it as a downloadable phone item, etc would work. Thats just me personally, but yea it is a cool idea.

Bestiary would be awesome, sign me up for supporting this.

Rather oddly, the Libra Eorzea app does have the info (well, minus the extra lore tidbits), but doesn't list Bestiary as a category. Its database categories are Items, Quests, Duty, NPCs, Crafting Log, Gathering Log, and Achievements. Yet you can start from one of those and find hidden Beastiary entries.

For example "Crafting Log -> Leatherworker -> 1-5 -> Leather" lists "Animal Skin" under Materials. Selecting that gives a page that lists the mobs that can drop it, and you can select any of those mobs (for the example I'll take the first one listed, "Surf Eft", though it's a long list) to get more info. That goes into a page identified as category "Enemies" name "Surf Eft" which gives their spawn location, level, and dropped items.

I haven't found any way to get to that page other than by linking through one of those dropped items, though, since "Enemies" (or "Bestiary" as I'd call it), isn't included in the top-level categories.

I like the in hand book (and on phone) idea too. The in game counter for kills would be a cool in game add-on though.

I didn't know it had all that info, guess I know what I am getting now. I never thought to check out the app they offered lol. Thanks for the heads up!

Love the idea! Also seconding the idea of it showing how many of that monster type we've killed along our journey.

I don't support the idea of having a separate app outside of the game for this, they should be able to make it right there in game like the Fishing thingy. Also physical hand book is a very bad idea in any MMO type games. Why? Because any patch could render the information obsolete very fast. Just make it a window somewhere in the menues where when it is opened up you get all the info + lore tidbits, hell you could even make it so that you dont get the lore until you kill a certain amount of them like some other games do.

That would be cool. Filling in the Beastiary is a fun side activity in some of the other FF games. They could give basic game info about them after you've killed one, and then add the lore to the description after you've killed several more. :)

It would rely on the game actually having those statistics, though. If they give it to us, I suspect we'd all start out with an empty Beastiary when the feature is first released, and there are bound to be people who would grumble if it doesn't include their kills from before that data was tracked. (I wouldn't mind starting the Beastiary log from scratch myself, but I'm sure there are other people who would.)

I'm all for this! I've wanted this for a while. FFXII's bestiary spoiled me. Perhaps add a book in the inn that we can check, that way it doesn't eat up memory/clash with system limitations?

An instanced library would be a better suggestion, in my opinion. Have it divided into sections by the classification of the creatures we fight (e.g. wavekin, cloudkin, etc.).

This sounds like the feature from FFXIII if I am not mistaken....I support this if they don't try and tell us the they don't have the server space...I still want my Armoury spaces first then they can do stuff like this that is going to take up resource time and effort.

The outcry for a bestiary goes way back to 1.0 with developers hinting at something in the "Future" obviously not high on their to do list.

I could have sworn this was suppose to be in Heavensward. A Bestiary log containing more lore about Wild Beasts, Hunts, Primals, and dungeon bosses would really make things alot more interesting.

Even if it cant be used from the main menu due to technical issues, we now have that Library that's collecting dust at the Foundation. You can make it available from the Librabry just like the FF Type 0 if Im not mistaken.

Enemies are a sub-category under NPC's, in case anyone else was looking for them.
(at least that is how it is on the website...would expect the app is organized similarly)

It's not too surprising since it'd be a metric ton of extra writing every patch. I'd love it to be sure, I just don't know how feasible it is.

Yet they made descriptions for hundred of fish...

I always like reading the lore behind on a creature and let us learn more about them. Something similar like in Castlevania games but more in-depth

Never said they weren't already doing it for something else.

The only bestiary I know is from the cards I've collected.

Fish even have their log. Why monster don't have?
