What would make you feel connected to your character?
From my post of "why you stopped playing ffxiv", i saw a few people comment on how they don't feel connected to their characters at all. And i haven't seen that brought up too much by the DEVs, and aside from barber shop and moghouse threads there hasn't been much i've seen.
So simply put, what would make you guys feel more connected with your character and the world?
I'll admit that the game feels a little detached at times. I'm really missing a place to call my own like a mog house. A place i can customize or just go to have my character chill. Having my character own space, having his own stash of items. It just made a sort of connection with me. But i think its more than that.
Even with the story, and the game play it all feels detached and i'm not sure exactly why.
What do you guys think?
Make Your Actions Matter in the World and Foster a Sense of Ownership and Investment
Have your actions in the world have a consequence. Let them give you a positive or negative reputation in the world. Individualize reputation as well: be nice to one NPC or group of NPCs, and they will treat you favorably. Be mean to a particular NPC or group of NPCs, and they will treat you unfavorably. Have various rewards based on either such behavior so as the player an make choices as to what he wants to do.
Let the player own more things. Mog house, chocobo, pet, etc. The more things a player owns and can customize and rank up, the more invested he can be in the game.
Let other players know of your achievements in Eorzea. Have leaderboards showing the relative achievements of different individuals or linkshells. Have a top ten listing of who was able to complete certain quests or leves the fastest. Foster more player to player competition and interaction, and have it leave an impact so players will want to be come famous on their server.
