Why must we pay to use the airship, yes I played WoW and in that game you know how much we paid, nothing. You simply got on and that was awesome. Sometimes this game feels so taxing with all it's fees and know what most of them just need not exsist.

Sorry but you most tax the players 5k seem overprice tho i think around 3k for 50 and 1k for low level would do. I don't know why you complaing tho your low level. You pay jack noting vs us high levels lol and money becoming hard to come by.
Also don't use the wow card this is not WoW and i hope it never follow the same road wow did. I don't need to play other wow-clone there 99.99% of other online games doing just that in the market.
Gil sink and paying for convenience? Of all the things to complain about...
If anything the prices should be a % based on your current gil, that way they can siphon gil out of the economy.
Pretty sure I always had to pay to fly anyplace in WoW, at least up until flying mounts where introduced... an even then you still had to pay unless you where in Outland... until Cata anyway.... There was only 1 free airship in WoW, and little reason to take it anyway beyond level 15-20ish.
Simple solution is WoW screwed up and FFXIV got it right with airship fees.
Game needs gil sinks or inflation goes crazy...
If you cannot afford 1-5k well yea npc stuff you got when killing things.
Yea, I believe OP is speaking in reference to the airships such as the one near Undercity for the horde. While I do remember that ride being free, I don't remember any transportation in that game that mattered after a certain level being free..as LeoDeSol mentioned.
I had to pay in XI..and in XI you had to complete enough story missions or pay a massive fee just to be allowed to ride the airship at all. They've made it easier and generally cheaper to fly in XIV..as for my part, I'm happy with the current cost of airship travel.
They have to be a money sink just how they most be a time sink for everything. If everyone have over 50mil and not wasting it on anything due to the fact you could level craft yourself then they going to be issue. If i remember right Games have a limit amount of money and when you buy something from a npc that money goes to "Mobs drop,NPC reward" and so on.
It should not be free i got pretty sad when the ship in ffxi was free at least make it 300gil lol. and airship are fine at 5k and now repair for high level gear is also 5k so that not bad :) at least the npc are getting it and not players.
Why must we pay a taxi to get to work in real life?
Anyways, SE just gave us rental chocobos, personal chocobos, and airships,.. we also have teleports too. The airship fees are rather cheap, if you can’t afford the airship fees then find another way to get around, you have plenty of options ^^ 5k is nothing to complain about
Are you saying you are a high level and you feel like your gil is growing so out of control that you need to be charged to fly on the airship lest you, uncontrollably, develop hazardous(as in inflation causing) spending habits? Because that's sounds ridiculous to me, and unless you are in that situation and feel that way, or know someone that is, I can't possibly imagine how you know that inflation is such a problem.
You pay for a taxi because you're paying a real person to do you a service in real life you doorknob. This is a ship that like flies non-stop on a regular circuit, passengers aboard or no. Why should it cost anything?
Is even a 5000 gil fee going to stop inflation from someone, we're apparently assuming, as make fortunes up to 50mil? I don't think so. It's either a pointless solution, or a fake problem. One of the two. I've heard nothing so far to dissuade me either.
Plus for those of you claiming WoW zeppelins were useless after low levels, you may recall that transported you from the 1-70 to the 70-80 zones. A little bit important, not just at the start of the game.
The only time you paid was for rentals which were very cheap and phenomenally more useful than these airships, or your own mounts which were even faster than those, and they were both way the hell faster than chocobos, I'd wager.
Ah so your saying that unlike the ships in FFXIV, nothing in real life runs 24/7, weather or not there are customers...? cause I think the city bus where I live runs 24/7 lol... and WOW I can't beleive you are complaining about 5k.. I guess its impossible for SE to satisfy everyone >.>; grow up lol
You should just stop making dumb posts you troll. It's an NPC, his children aren't going to starve if SE makes airships free. Because he doesn't have any. Because he's not real. Get it yet? Nothing is going to go wrong with your game world if airships are free.
I never once said, or even hinted, that anything more than airships should be free. So I don't even know why you threw that in there. But tell me why this can't be free. Tell me what you're worried will go wrong? Other than, supposedly, ruining this NPCs life by not paying him. For it seems to me that these airships could simply be a service the cities do for there inhabitants. Free tranportation exists in reality too, you do realize?
I guess no one is considering the fact that you don't have to spend 3 days on an airship license?
Chocobos and airships in their current state might not be up to par in every players opinion, but at least we have them. What did we have about a week ago? Walking everywhere on foot and fighting to be resourceful with Anima. Its not going to stop inflation, especially since many players have small fortunes, as you yourself recognize. Look at it this way: You have traveling options.
Don't ride the airship if the fees are too much..use Anima or rent a chocobo(its far cheaper). Its not the end all be all of fixing the economy and I don't believe its meant to be the most epic of gil sinks.
Edit: To answer your question directly OP, you still have free travel~ Walking on foot and teleportation which cost you no gil. Also after you get your license, which again cost you no gil, you can travel for free via chocobo. With the airship, you are being charged for convenience. When it takes off, your are 'instantly' taken to your destination..you don't even have to actually wait a 'riding time'. Its not trolling to say everything in the game can't be free, its fact.
We cried for options in traveling Eorzea, SE has given us 2 great traveling options. When one drop from a mob can npc for up to 500gil, and the maximum cost for the airship being 5k gil..I'm sorry but I just can't be bothered to care that I'm being charged. Give them time, this is the least of the games problems at this time.
So i post something and i become a troll? sorry a troll is a person who make a Topic about something complain about it and does not even talk on the topic anymore and sit back and watch the show. I don't hide behind a level 1 char do i? Once again they most be a money, time sink in a game.
Free tranportation is pay by the gov which comes from people tax so at the end we paying for it. But the issue here is it not a of money so don't know why you worrying about it. Just like any other game they most be a time sink,Money sick or everyone would be rich.
HEY!
Just be glad that you only have to pay for the airship, and NOT for the game itself (with real life money).. currently the game is FREE!! and the devs are working VERY hard and VERY fast... stop complaining about unimportant things and be greatfull lol
instead of creating a anothing repetitive thread complaining, why not be original and create a thread thanking the dev team and giving them a thumbsup for their hard work!
Give this post a thumbs up if you agree with what I just said!! :D
Now I have two trolls? If you can't offer an explanation to why it would make the game worse than don't post anything at all. They're working hard because this game wasn't up to player standards or their own. Consider this my last reply to you two, never have you offered anything constructive.
It makes more sense to liken the airships to the flight points in WoW rather than the zeppelins in WoW. The flight points aren't free, but their cost isn't substantial. 3k is not substantial in this game either. i guess it means a bit more since the amount of gil we get seems to have been dialed back a bit, but it's still not exactly taxing.
Perhaps, things would be better if we had free rides. But as others have stated, for now the economy needs to balance a little bit. Too much money, at least now we have something to invest our gil into.
It's not trolling if people disagree with you. Trolling is what certain players are doing to those who are complaining about the increased lower level difficulty in the other thread. A bunch of them are just saying "QQ more" - the people who have responded to you in this thread are basically saying that they think it's fine as it is because it's relatively cheap and that the money you're paying for the convenience is not something that will burn a hole in your pocket.
I do agree that the airship fees should be slightly lowered (maybe to something like 75 gil per level) but I don't think it's a good idea to make them free. The economy still needs a gil sink, and in the grand scheme of things, airship travel isn't going to do much for that. This is Stockholm Syndrome talking, but I have to say it: just be glad we have GC chocobos (which are free), rentable chocobos, and airships for us to use, as it was a pain in the rear before then to get anywhere pre patch-1.19.
I'm getting kind of tired of seeing the term "Gil-Sink." As if any of the people who racked up 400+ million are going to suddenly up and choose airships and repairs galore without regard for bank balance knowing that if they play their cards right they can already afford a relic in 2015.
That's how they got that money to begin with, you know. Sucking at logic with things like inflation, supply v. demand, currency management...
Gil-sink... *facepalm*
Anyone who's played FFXI recognizes the importance of having various gil-sinks to help stabilize an MMO economy. Because monsters are constantly dropping loot that people sell, and because quests reward gil, money is generated out of thin air. If you don't have a way to dispose of it, the population slowly starts to have more and more money and the price of everything begins to rise higher and higher.
The way WoW primarily gets around it, even though their economy is historically far less important than in SE MMO's, is soulbound items that people drop a ton of money on and then trash or sell back to an npc for a fraction of the cost. It's basically a hidden fee. The way Square Enix does it is direct fees.
