How is Materia V acquired at the present time? Please help.

The short form is, generally, you don't. If you get lucky with super high iLvl equipment it may convert into a piece of V materia, I think... but probably not.
Most V materia I know of people having obtained so far came from materia melding a set of IVs and getting super lucky. -

I am used to getting material III and IV out of that ilvl 45-49 stuff. SB up some of that new ilvl 125 stuff, and just kinda sat that staring at that wonderful II rank material. That just seems so wrong.

Yea I've turned like 30 sets of IV in and no V's. Guess just my luck thank you though.

Currently only transmuting works they will make it possible to convert gear into materia in later patches.

A few days ago I was chatting in one of my Linkshells about the rank V Materias when one of your servers top crafters mentions just getting a rank 5 materia from the ilvl180 casting chest piece. I have no way of confirming it but it does make sense that such a high level item would drop a rank V Materia.
Just my 2 cents on the matter. -

Materia V is possible for anything but Gathering and Crafting. So yea they could have. That's what I've read anyhow.

I've saw a few Tier V materia on MB like the second day after the expansion was released. I doubt it was from an ilvl180 chestpiece...probably Transmutation?

From: 3.0 Patch Notes.
* Grade five materia for crafting and gathering classes will not be available at the release of patch 3.0. They are scheduled to be added at a later date. However, it will be possible to receive grade five crafting or gathering materia via materia transmutation by speaking with Mutamix.
I didn't see any mention of other methods of getting grade 5 materia from any patch notes so for right now, this is the only way.
