Hidden Fatigue (not surplus)

Aside from Surplus, I've found that there is another (hidden) fatigue for fishing. It affects you by limiting your catches. If you get a fish to bite, and you hook it, your remainder meter will drop to 0 and you will lose the fish. Also, you receive more "Nothing Bites" messages. I noticed this fatigue after 6 hrs of spearfishing, then going to fish afterward (in other words, it doesn't seem to affect spearfishing, but can be brought on from too much spearfishing or regular fishing). Also, I did not have Surplus. I have read a few sources that say that this also can affect the other gathering classes, but I'm not too sure about that. I was going bonkers trying to figure out wth was going on, then I remembered the fatigue system from FFXI and this kind of reminded me of it.

So fellow fishermen/women, have you found this to be true for you as well?

It does exist yes, it seems to fade after about 24 hours of not gathering on said class, and yes it does exist for miners as well as botanist.

Thanks for the confirmation! It's good to have this kind of info. How long do you normally have to fish to hit that fatigue? Or does it go by how much fish you have caught?

I have not examined it enough to know but I imagine its fish caught, I was talking to one of the botanist in the LS today and he says its after about 32 tree's that it starts to kick in for him.

Probably a bit of a necro-post but I seem to hit the 'you lose the fish/damage the item' if I try to do more than approximately 30k SP in a day. I go from pretty much only losing mythril ore/gold sand to losing even the easy stuff like zinc and tin.

Anyone discover if the invisible quota resets at jp midnight or maybe 24 hours after or something like that? At this point I'm resorting to trying an alternating nights fishing/mining strategy.

In FFXI Fishing and Chocobo Digging reset at JP midnight. The fatigue was determined by how many items you've gathered. For Chocobo Digging it was 100 items every 24h. For fishing it was around 200 fish every 24h. It had nothing to do with the skill ups you made in that time, if you wern't able to dig/fish anything, it also didn't count. Only the successfully gathered items had an effect on the fatigue.

I wouldn't be surprised if the system here is the same. In FFXI there also was no visible debuff or anything like that. People had to learn it the hard way. While Botanists can gather an extrem amount of items in a short time, fishers seem to need more time to hit the fatigue.

I could be completely wrong, but one thing I typically do while fishing is take long breaks. This seems to off-set or cool down this hidden fatigue and allow me to fish much longer. In other words, I don't think 24 hours is the reset. I think it may be much less. I've had what appeared to be a complete reset in as short as four hours.

Now it's all hidden (which I hate) so I could be totally wrong. I could have had good luck or bad luck. I could have hit some invisible reset at JP midnight. I don't really know, but I'm pretty sure 24 hours is incorrect. I'd try 6 hours and if that works I'd try 4 next time.

I usually fish about 20-30k SP and then go do something else for 2-3 hours. Then I come back and hit up another 30k. I keep this going pretty much indefinitely and I've gotten as many as 3-4 levels in a 24 hour period.

A DoL successfully gathering an item is IMO the equivalent of a DoW/M successfully slaying an enemy/mob. Which means that when we FAIL to pull that item in because of this hidden fatigue system, it would equate to a DOW/M suddenly being killed by 70%+ of anything they try and attack.

Even on the lowest grade a fully capped DoL can fail 80-90% of their harvest attempts do to this hidden system. Could you imagine if a DOW/M suddenly just started being insta-killed by 80-90% of the mobs in this game due to a system as terrible as this? Not only that but being insta-killed at 50 by a WARF RAT?

Not only that but this actually does more than affect are chances at gathering. It affects our leveling as well. I can go gather on fisher and hit fatigue. Now I swap to botany to rank up some. Oh guess what, now I have insta-fails on my botanist because I played my fisher for a few hours earlier. Completely ridiculous that one class can affect me ranking another class. Hidden fatigue should not be in game at all. But having is PERSIST across ALL dols is absolutely ridiculous. No other archtype in-game deals with this stuff, except for DOL.

I realize its SE's attempt to stop RMT but it does not stop them, it hardly hinders them. It hurts more legit players than it hurts RMT. It is RMT's job to make money off in-game resources. So what RMT will go gather until they hit bad hidden gather fatigue. Then sell those resources off for gil, sell the shards they acquired while DOLing for gil and in the case of fishing use alchemy to turn those fish into shards, to sell for gil. RMT is not being stopped by this.

At the very least if not removed it needs to be revamped and SE needs to just own up and admit that it is there instead of dodging and ignoring questions and topics about it as they have since beta.

At the very make it so that it affects ONLY the class you are ranking.
Make it so that the failure chance for gathering goes down as you get deeper into normal surplus. Aka you hit surplus/yellow you now have a 10% chance to auto fail, then at the next rank of surplus 20% and so on and so on. Its better than what is in now and makes more sense. But even still this is still a bad solution, as this system just needs to go.

I've also experienced this "nerf" across all 3 harvest jobs. Guess I'm not crazy after all. Usually happens to me after 3 hrs or so. All of a sudden I would start missing alot. Repairing all the gears doesn't help that much. So now, I just stop and go do something else.

I start getting this within 1hour of fishing -.- and i get it so many times i log in today and still getting it sometime i don't fish for days and i can get it from the first fish.

I get this after 2 hours of any gather, mining, botany or fishing.. its immedietly obvious when I start breaking the same kind of logs ive been successfully harvesting for 2 straight hours.
