I'm reminded of the toy train in WoW xD
Eh, maybe it'll make our Phoenix Down's useful finally :P
Ah, but that's not the Doomtrain. That's the Phantom Train. Doomtrain was a summon from FF8.
And they most likely called it Doomtrain for us because of the 9 character limit for character and GF names.
I think it would be pretty awesome to have a Dungeon take place inside and outside of a moving Clockwork Doom Train. But those PS3 limitations....
Yeah if you had one of those gameshark things back in the day and got into the secret menu Doomtrain is listed as Death Express. I like Doomtrain better too! :)
I really hope they do something with this hint. I saw him talking about Doomtrain and literally started bouncing in my seat. FF8 is my favorite and yes please may we have it!
It's so fluffy!!! XD
Question is if it'll use the classic design or the FF8 design.

It doesn't matter much to me, but given the way things are going in FFXIV (with Magitek and all), I kinda suspect that the design will be similar to the original (but not exactly the same).

I'd love it having the FF8 design, looks like it comes from a metal album cover and it's absolutely delicious.
I'm genuinely curious how they will incorporate this primal into the lore.
Who will summon a train?
Could be something like Alexander. A primal summoned into an old train which then started to animate like it's a living being.
It'll probably be a minion drop in the new 24-man raid. They bothered to put, "Clockwork" in the name which tells me it probably won't be a primal, otherwise they would have just called it Doomtrain. At least that's my theory.
The "Phantom Train" has already been mentioned in this game during the whole "escape from castrum centri" questline. Yda mentions how it is the way they sneaked into the place.
Whether or not this has to do with a doomtrain later on idk, but it's worth mentioning.
When did this get mentioned? Did I miss something?? Was this at PAX or something???
Have you done the quest "A World Away" yet, Mike? If not, do it. If so, go talk to that bard again. Either way, wander around the place you go for a while, paying particular attention to NPC conversation (including what non-interactive NPCs say). :)

It's kinda a stretch, but maybe Nero summons it, say as an attempt to create a Garlean controlled primal out of a magitec device? We haven't seen him for awhile, he's gotta be up to something pesky.
Would Nero even be capable of summoning it? We know pure-blood Garleans can't use magic...
Plus, Garleans kinda really hate Primals... unless they acquire Allagan tech that is capable of capturing them.
Well Primals don't need to be worshipped to be summoned but
SPOILER
they need to have a strong enough belief to be given a form as it was revealed in 3.0.
Worshipping is just a method to provide a strong enough belief to provide the form for the Primal to take on since Primals are nothing more than figments of Imagination given solid form by the Aether resonating with a beings belief.
Anything will do as long it provides a strong belief with Alexander being a example. Alexander is not worshipped by the Goblins as a God but instead is seen as a tool for their goals. Their belief for a Utopia gave Alexander his form after leaning about Alexander's design in a Engima Codex.
So if a something like a Ghost Story about Doom train was to be strongly believed while having a large amount of Aether near by the Doom Train may gain his form and manifest into Eorzea.
Just a couple more thoughts about the Nero idea: After his time in the World of Darkness, it's not hard to believe that he's different than he was before. He might even be possessed and merely be a carrier for the spirit of something he picked up while trapped there...
And then there was his "Primal energy scout meter" thing, that mysteriously started beeping after he discarded it....must have been picking up something...hmmm
I'm not super in love with the whole idea, but it is fun to speculate...
Who would summon Doomtrain is an excellent question. For all we know, it could involve something silly with a certain gentleman detective.
I smell a case!
The Case of the Ghost Train!
As for summon as we seen back in Hildibrand Season 1 and Alexander the summon can happen unintentionally as well which we see when a Fake Enkidu was summoned by Gilgamesh and from explanation about how Alexander was summoned.
A Ghost Train story may be enough spark to cause a unintentional summon of Doom Train if enough people started believing in a Ghost Train Story strong enough.
An actual ghost train turning up as part of a Hildibrand investigation is just begging for multiple Scooby Doo references.

So we're going to see this fabulous man suplex the Doomtrain?
