Fingerprints of the Gods

Why do gathering abilities like Fingerprints of the Gods, never seem to proc? I mined for about 2 hours and never had an ability proc. How are we supposed to meld materia if no catalyst are available.

Did you have all your other gathering abilities turned off?

The answer to your question lies in the patch notes.

You can't gather catalyst's in every area for every gathering class. Check the Patch Notes for detailed information where you can gather which catalysator with which class. ;)

I had mine activate on one tree 3 times lol

i had it activate a few mins ago for first time but i got the same regular items in it, am i to assume now that the catalyst itself has a sweet spot that i need to change to when it's blinking? all i got was mahog logs instead during it.

I'm in horizon mining for carbonized matter, and been there an hour, no procs, only ability set.

is there a list of what zone has what catalyst i not seeing it in anywhere. link link pweeze:)

Anyone have a quick list of which catalyst attaches what materia?

Botanist: The Sweet Spot for Materia on Trees at Iron Lake is +5, same for Halatali.

Fishing: Sweet Spot for Grade 5 Fishing at Bald Knoll seems to be -5.

Mining: Seems to be +5 too. But have not checked it myself so far.

I can vouch for the sweet spot of catalysts for logging being +5 at halatali

i believe mining is +5 as well as thats where i got the carbonized catalyst

Can confirm -5 for Ossified at Bald Knoll

Dunno if this helps but:

Miner : White, Yellow, Light Blue

Botanist: Green, Dark Blue, Orange

Fisher: Red, Purple, Black

I can confirm +5 (very top of the vertical slider) for mining at Treespeak and Dragonhead.

The ability does trigger (in place of any other equipped abilities) but it is indeed rare. My LS seems to be of the opinion that if you are under-leveled for an area, it will also go off less often.

btw, I leveling in Grade 4 and till now I get 7 Decayed Matter (for gear rank 31-40)....at the first when I got it, I look at MW to see the price..guess what, 200k!!! OMG that insane! then I put mine for 150k.... hours later, I found one of my Decayed Matter sold....people sure is crazy

An excellent question. I don't know for certain, but I would guess yes. Although since you are rarely doing more than a few nodes per leve, the odds of it happening during a leve are exceptionally low.

And not with any intent to induce more rampant speculation, but has anyone tried equipping the moonlet earring or cataloging the frequency of FOTG during moon phases? Maybe just randomness, but it seemed to me that during half moons, FOTG would never proc, but during new and full it was every third node averaged out, even on grade 5's.

I've been doing loads of gathering leves and from what I can tell this ability doesn't proc on leves :(

Now I also got this feeling but thought it must just be my imagination. But if someone else had it... I'll keep my eyes out (and watch for sync between calendar and visible moon phase as well).

Oh good, I thought maybe it was that gathering haze that clouds the mind after two or three mind-numbing hours. Lol. For me, it's been on all DoL, not one exclusively, so maybe there's something to this.
