Cosmetic? Yes.
Reason to not have it? No.
Messes with the beauty of the game and lack of reality? Yes, along with the other several reasons that this game is any less normal.

Well the only class it would even make a remote amount of sense for is Monk. And I believe SE has already said they're considering doing barehanded vanity for Monks.

On that note, I would like to see them do more with armor sets even if its for one piece each.

example would be a fire sword that does fire damage or armor that has a health regeneration effect.

Maybe a helm that lets you sprint longer or gives chocobo a extra boost of speed or double attack on weapons.

Like the good old days.

Nah I wasn't actually referring to Warhammer. Actually I never played that game either. I thought it'd be cool and interesting to expand the emperor gear to make just about all gear invisible.

They should add bandage knuckle for "Monk" stuff IMO.

They could bring back weaponless-casting as well from 1.0.

I wouldn't mind having an invisible PLD shield. Clemency has a beautiful animation that gets blocked by a clunky shield. There are quite a few of PLDs skills like that, but Clemency's animation is by far my favorite.

Though, seeing that you blocked Mountain Buster in Titan with only your arm would be pretty hilarious... and Shield Lobbing. I guess it'd be more like Sword Lobbing without a shield? Though, if I were an enemy and someone threw their sword at me, they'd have my attention pretty darn quick.

I do agree with a clear PLD shield as well, or at least an "arm gauntlet" of the kinda so instead of having a giant tower shield, you just have the small shield wrapped around your arm so its not 100% "blocking with my hand"

I just saw Antiquated Rising Suns for the first time. My condolences.

Yes agree in general there should be more emperor items. I wanted to make my shield invisible for so long to rock a one hand sword look. Not sure if it will ever happen though, somewhere along the lines the developer said it is the lore PLD have a shield, so they don't want to make an emperor shield for it. Does lore really matter that much vs players having more fun.

I wouldn't mind glamouring away my WHM weapon for some weaponless casting.

From a World setting and story perspective, not having a visible shield would mean that you couldn't use shield bash or shield lob, and as such we have no plans to introduce an "Emperor's New Shield."
